Griffin E. (Red) 10/20/14 Halloween Debate: Initial Post I say that you shouldn’t stop trick-or-treating until you are officially out of high school. By then you have grown out of childish activities, but if you stop before that; that is probably because you are embarrassed to be seen by your friends. Just think, you will most likely be behind a mask, so your friends couldn’t even recognize you; unless you tell them.
Halloween is so much fun and who says that you should spoil your own fun. Halloween is one of the rarest times of the year, it is a time to dress up and be yourself. Ask your family members; they will probably tell you that you don’t have to stop just because someone asked you to.
Who could forget the candy, do you seriously want to stop having those wonderfully tasting foods. You can hardly get candy anywhere else; you’re a teenager, so you probably won’t be going on easter egg hunts anymore. If you have a little brother or sister than you are lucky because they can just share some of their candy with you, but that is still not a reason stop trick-or-treating.
Most adults won’t let you have candy, but unlike them the generous ones will. Even if you only get a little bit of candy just be happy that you got anything at all, it still shows that you have the spirit of Halloween in you. The candy isn’t the most important part; the important part is that you dressed up, faced your fears, and went out into the night with smaller kids.
So, yes I think that everybody should go out on Halloween unless they’re out of high school. But if you are a parent I say that you can still go because after all, they always have the funniest costumes, and they get cute costumes for their babies too.
Kids should stop trick-or-treating after 9th grade, for they deserve one last year of Halloween. They don’t do all the scarring and stuff until next year; plus they still have a little bit of Halloween spirit. First of all 9th graders deserve one last year of Halloween before homework gets piled on top of them. As we all know High School can be a place of torture from the amount of homework. In 9th grade you don’t get as much as 10th grade or higher. So we should let them have a day off but still have enough time to finish homework, and while they’re thinking about homework next year they’re not concentrating on scaring kids. 9th graders aren’t into scaring little kids that much because the little kids are innocent. They might scare the kids a little bit but half the time it’s by accident. When they scare kids on purpose they probably don’t feel good afterwards anyway, however they still have halloween spirit. With halloween spirit, decorating your house, dressing up, and giving out candy, not much could go wrong. Other than someone coming to your front door pretending to be a Trick-or-Treater disguised as a ninja and mugging you. In conclusion I think kids should stop Trick-or-Treating in 9th grade.

I do think that people in High School should stop Trick-or-Treating. Why? Because younger kids should have the chance, to actually enjoy Halloween, be able to get candy, and dress up. But also not have to worry about older kids pushing, or running them over to get to the door. My first reason is because, for High Schoolers Halloween is all about the tricks, and scaring kids. My brother, a High School boy, would always jump out and scare kids when they would ring the doorbell. Therefore when I would go up to a house, that looked scary, I would always be scared that someone would jump out and scare my friends and I. Or maybe someone would do a prank, and act like they were a ghost. So I would not go up to that house. Another argument is, older kids wear creepy costumes, or maybe even sometimes inappropriate ones too. High Schoolers, a lot of them outgrow all of the fun costumes, so they think that wearing scary costumes is funny. But for the little kids; its not. I remember Trick-or-Treating one year, and I saw a High Schooler wearing a zombie, or alien costume and at that time I was freaked out, cause I thought it was a real one. With that being said a lot of kids get terrified because of the older kid’s outfit. This is another reason why I think High Schoolers should stop Trick-or-Treating. My final reason is older kids shouldn’t be charging for the door, or pushing kids out of the way. Many of the younger kids that I see at Halloween are getting trampled because High Schoolers want to get to the door before all of the little kids get there. It’s sure not fair, when you see the out sign on the candy bowl, and then you see the bigger kids hogging all of the candy. Be honest the candy is the best part of Halloween. Halloween is a holiday for the younger kids to have fun. For me I still do think that Halloween should end in High School. Because of the way older kids treat younger kids. Or scarring, tricking them, or maybe the way they even dress. But what I am trying to say here is Halloween is the only time kids can dress up, be able to get candy, and hang out with friends. Kids shouldn’t be scared on Halloween they should be able to have fun.

Matthew Dubal Mr. Masenhimer Red Core Per. 4 10/17/14 Halloween Debate: Trick-or-Treating Initial Post
Halloween is a holiday for kids to have fun, be free, and enjoy life. In certain places, Halloween is banned for 12 year olds and ages older than 13. I believe that it shouldn’t be like that. I believe the ninth graders should be able to trick-or-treat one last time before they decide to stop. In other words trick-or-treating should end around ninth grade in high school because one, Almost all kids enjoy halloween until they reach tenth grade, two, they all want to be able to have fun with friends and sometimes family, and three, by then the kids will move on to going to parties and leave the little kids to the holiday.
One of my three reasons of letting kids in high school trick-or-treat is because they are technically still kids and still growing up. How would you like it if you walked up to someones door on halloween, knocked, and said, “Trick-or-Treat!”, and almost got candy until the person asked for how old you were and not get candy because you were fourteen? That would make you feel bad, right? Almost all ninth graders are still going trick-or-treating so they have something to do, something to keep them occupied. Trick-or-treating gives these kids time to be themselves and be free.
Trick-or-treating is a night of wonder, night of fun, and full of lots of excitement. Many people are still in the spirit to dress up and go trick-or-treating or handing out candy. Even the high schoolers have the spirit to dress up and have fun. The ninth graders still know best to not scare kids or steal candy, they are fresh from Middle School. High school kids, who are by now taller than some teachers, still enjoy the halloween spirit. if they have the spirit to go door to door and politely ask for candy, they should be able to trick-or-treat. Although some do mean things to small children, but that rarely happens. It’s not like all high schoolers go rampant terrorizing little kids on halloween, some are polite, and dignified.
Finally, my last statement is that Halloween and trick-or-treating is the only holiday and activity left for these high schoolers to have fun on. We all start to not believe in santa, the tooth fairy, and the easter bunny around seventh grade, but not the halloween spirit! It lasts till at least ninth grade when the kids are going to parties on halloween instead or rick-or-treating. Thanksgiving isn’t always that fun, Easter isn’t fun to high schoolers, and Chistmas is ruined by catching your parents hide the presents under the tree, so Halloween is one of the only fun holidays highschoolers in ninth grade have left.
Now, from all the articles I’ve read, I think that high schoolers should in ninth grade should then stop trick-or-treating. Highschoolers love halloween; some for different reasons though. some places ban children from trick-or-treating at age twelve, and that is wrong in my opinion. High schoolers in the ninth grade should stop trick-or- treating at tenth grade because ninth graders still have halloween spirit, still enjoy the fun holiday, and it’s the only holiday they have left.
I think kids should stop trick-or-treating in freshman year of high school. This is because kids that age begin to wear inappropriate costumes, they think they can do what they want, and they begin to scare young children. One reason why I think this is an appropriate age to stop, is because teeanagers start wearing inappropriate costumes. These teens, freshmen, probably want to be like their friends, but it is still a wrong thing to do. While children are trick-or-treating, people do not want to be seeing these young teenagers wearing naughty things, and also because there is a possibility kids want to do that. I also don’t think adults would like their children looking at those other teens either. It is possible the parents would take them inside of there homes and spoil the small childrens happy day. Not to mention why teens should stop at this age, is because this is the age where teenagers have more attitude than usual. When their parents give them a specific time to come home, they ignore them. That is extremely disrespectful and they need to be aware of their curfew. Also, it is not safe to be out too late. There are many chances that you could get lost, hurt, scared, even kidnapped! Once again, you need to respect your curfew not only to be gracious to your parents, but for your safety. My final argument is freshmen having a fun time frightening little kids. On childrens fun time out of there house in their costumes and pillowcases ready to go, I don’t think they would enjoy being terrified. It is dark and scary out. I wouldn’t blame them for crying, they aren’t supposed to be scared, kids are supposed to have an awesome time. Why would you want to ruin it for them? If you are a freshman ready to terrorize a child, it doesn’t just scare them, but you will get in deep trouble by a witness, a parent. So remember, on Halloween nights, there is no use of scaring children. It scares them and you will get in trouble. I am not trying to hurt the feelings of people. It is my opinion. For this Halloween debate, I have chosen that kids should stop trick-or-treating when they become a freshman in high school. This is because kids that age begin to wear inappropriate costumes, they think they can do what they want, and they begin to scare young children. Halloween is fun; it is an amazing holiday. Don’t ruin it for them.
Josh B Red core Initial post 10/20 Halloween debate I think people should stop doing halloween either at the end of eighth grade or before they start going into high school because high schoolers start wearing appropriate costumes, or bullying little kids and mean to adults. reason One that people should stop in eighth grade, because when you get in to high school they take it to far. The reason why I think we should stop in eighth grade, because when you're little you don’t know what to expect while trick-or treating.when your in middle school you should enjoy the fun” while you can because if you don’t you won’t remember the fun you had on halloween. The second reason I think you should stop doing halloween in eighth grade is because when you're in highschool you don’t mostly enjoy it. When you're in highschool you get too carried away with your custom inappropriate close. The third reason why you should stop trick-or treating on halloween is because high schoolers treat kids the way they're not supposed to be treated by. when you're in high you about the rule that people make high school students worried about driving a car rather than getting candy from the neighbors .In conclusion I think high schoolers shouldn’t trick-or-treat because their mean to little kids don’t wear inappropriate custom and and they take it to far.

People think that eventually, everyone gets ‘’too old’’ to trick-or-treat. But today, im rulling against that theory.Im here to juge that to old, or to small; everyone should be able to trick-or-treat.
My first reason is that, not all adults-teenagers are bad.Why shame them when they’ve been good? This theory is a lot like christmas actually. you know the whole ‘’hes know when you've been bad’’ thing. I think if teenagers show up to your house in a jacket, pants’ and a simple ‘’yo, give me candy’’ they don't deserve anything. But if they're in a costume and say a respectful ‘’trick-or-treat’’, why do they not deserve anything?
My second reason is that, teens aren't adults yet, let them have the little time left, why not let them enjoy it? Not all kids want to ‘’grow up’’ yet, they still want to be happy. But when their banned from trick-or-treat, they don’t feel like their little anymore. So they grow up and start being the teenager of their mothers nightmares. Kids, the little kids in particular, are not gonna be scared of monsters, but fear their own older selves.I guess what im trying to say is kids wanna stay young and innocent, and dressing up in costumes and asking for candy makes them feel that way.
My final reason is that, let them decide. If they wanna grow up to be 77 and still be trick-or-treating,fine by me. Halloween is the scariest holiday of the year ,it seems legit if teenagers are scaring people. but if they feel like their halloween days are over and decided to hang up their pillow cases and sticker covered buckets, that their decision.
Today, we've discussed some very important things to discuss. But although I've said some very interesting i'm not trick-or-treating this year. I’ve just simple decided not to this year. All i’ve got to say is… Happy Hallowen!!!

I believe that kids should stop TRICK-OR-TREATING by 9th grade. This is because kids more mature, they are likely to destroy property and scare little kids.
The first reason is that teens after 9th grade will dress up in scary costumes and scary little kids. When you are in middle school you think the world is at your fingertips and that you are finally in charge. So you are more likely to break rules. Scary outfits will make smaller children not want to go trick-or-treat.
The next reason is that kids are more likely to destroy property. They will want to decorate with toilet paper in the trees which will be a mess if it rains. Kids could roll Jack-o-lanterns down hills or step on them. Kids will be out later as Halloween is held in the evening without their Parent to watch them.
The third reason is that kids are more mature. High schoolers are more responsible and developed kids. Halloween is more for the elementary school kids. They will not want to dress up and walk door to door to get candy that they can buy in the store. Dressing up in silly or scary costumes is not much fun for them.
In conclusion due to property damage by older kids look for trouble. Trick-or-treating should end by 9th grade. The fact is that bigger kids will scare little kids that enjoy this time of year. Responsible 9th graders will just be too mature for Trick-or-treating.

The age that kids should stop trick-or-treating has long been debated. I believe that kids should stop trick-or-treating at the end of middle school. I have three reasons for this. At this age we don’t scare little kids with our size or costume choices. I think the economy needs kids trick-or-treating. And finally, we just still really enjoy it.
My first argument is that middle schoolers aren’t as tempted to wear clothing that is inappropriate. I know this because most middle schoolers are pretty self-conscious about themselves, so I don’t think they’d want to wear anything that might make them feel bad about themselves or make other people feel bad. They also know how to dress. They aren’t going to wear something scary, because most of them have little siblings at home and know not to scare them.
My second reason is that frankly I think the economy needs us. It’s a chance for kids to save money on candy. It also supports our local dentists, and if we don’t support them they might not support us on the back of t-shirts we get throughout elementary school. And on the other side of things if we don’t spend money on Halloween candy our stores could lose a major sale, hurting the economy.
My third reason is that middle schoolers are still into the spirit of Halloween. Middle schoolers enjoy the creativity of making our costumes with friends. We also know a lot about how to have fun and spend time with friends. It’s a fun community event for us.
So that’s why I think trick-or-treating should stop at the end of middle school. It still gives us time to be social, use our creativity, and support our economy before we start to grow out of trick-or-treating.
Eliel.g green core initial post 10/20/14 Halloween debate by Eliel.g Mr.Masenhimer CORE 10/17/14 Trick-or-treating has been a tradition for decades;but in what age do we have to stop doing this?I think we should stop trick-or-treating after 8th grade, because once you go to high school that's when bad things happen.
For example at the high school age we do very bad things in Halloween, the pranks can sometimes be very bad and do damage, throwing eggs or T.P(toilet paper) can take a lot of time to clean up and then consequences come.
People think that Halloween is a good time to do bad things, but its not.high school students dress up really scary and terrorize children, probably even get them traumatized.I guess sometimes we can go crazy about pranks but don’t take it to the extreme.
The second reason about stopping trick-or-treating after 8th grade is because people will think you are immature, which I totally understand the fact that full size snickers are the bomb. But still everything has a “beginning and an end”.
Our generation is used to this tradition but some day we have wake up and realize”hey I'm grown i need to stop trick-or-treating”.Halloween is an epic night for almost anyone, decorating your house is one thing, but terrorizing or vandalizing is complete issue these days.
The third reason i think we should stop trick-or-treating after 8th grade is we should let the other little children enjoy the fun like we did, instead of terrorizing them and pranking the poor fellas.
Why should we let them enjoy you may ask, because our time passed its their turn now to have fun like we did don’t you think.Come on we probably have enough cavities already. Even if we trick-or-treat in 8th grade adults in houses will be like “the heck, you’re too old for this to be dressed in Halloween and going knocking in other peoples homes just to get candy”you see what i mean.
So when do you think kids should stop trick-or-treating?My belief is we should stop in 8th grade.
Justin H. (green) initial post 10/20/14 I think kids should stop trick-or-treating once they are in high school. I have three reasons for this, one is costumes that older kids would wear could scare the younger kids. Two is I don’t think that high schoolers are in the spirit of Halloween. Three kids in high school can go buy a whole bunch of junk food and hang out with there friends they don’t need to go from door to door with the chance of scaring little kids. My first reason was the costumes that high schoolers might wear could be scary or innapropriate. Halloween is supposed to be fun for little kids not scare them. I have been at high school waiting for the bus and a lot of high schoolers need to be more modest about what they wear. My second reason is I don’t think high schoolers are in the spirit of halloween anymore. They don’t do Halloween so the can dress up and get candy, they would do it to play pranks on people, for high schoolers its more trick than it is treat. My final reason is that high schoolers have more freedom than middle or elementry schoolers do. They can hang out with friends more, some can drive to places on there own so there parents don’t have to take them. So instead of doing Halloween they can go to a friends house and hang out so they still get food but there’s no chance of scaring little kids. That’s why I think you should stop doing Halloween when you get in high school. My first reason was because high schoolers could wear costumes and and big so that can scare little kids. My second reason was because I don’t think high schoolers are in the spirit of Halloween, and three High schoolers can go hang out with friends they don’t need Halloween.

Everyone is saying you need to stop trick-or-treating when you are in elementary school or in middle school but, I think that we should stop trick-or-treating when we hit high school (freshman year). The reason why that I say freshman year is because Halloween is the only childhood memory left, there having fun with their friends, and peoples customs. Halloween is our last childhood memory because teens don't believe in the Easter bunny,or Santa claus, and the tooth fairy. So Halloween is were you get to dress up and be what you want and go out.Yes, people are going to dress scary but, isn’t that the point of Halloween to dress up scary.I remember when I got scared of people wearing scary costums but,my mom never got mad at them because my mom knows when I get older i'm going to do that and she was right. Teenagers we all know they're going to scare little kids and the parents are going to get mad but, have you ever wondered that what did the parents do on Halloween when they were teenagers?Like what happens if they did the same thing or what happens if they didn't still it doesn't matter because everyone once in a while would scare little kids like your younger siblings or cousins or niece or nephew etc... you all did teenagers are just trying to have fun with their friends and maybe they just want candy. We all understand that teenagers wear scary costumes but, that's the point of like I said before Halloween is supposed to be scary not like puppy costume butterflies and unicorns.Teenagers like dressing scary in Halloween. Most teenagers usually go to parties and trick-or-treating,their hanging out with their friends, their customs.Another reason why teenagers want to trick-or-treat is because they want candy like a whole bunch of it;so they don’t have to buy candy because they might not even have money. I'm not saying that trick-or-treating is only for teens but, they should all ages to trick-or-treat so everyone can have fun in Halloween not only the little kids.My reasons were its our last child hood memory and teens just want to have fun,and there costumes.
Naomi B (green) Masenhimer Period 5 10/17/14 Halloween debate
I think kids should stop trick-or-treating at the end of middle school or the beginning of high school. When you're in 8th grade you might realize that the holiday is for children and you will probably want to go to parties or other events.
So instead of going trick-or treating you can watch a scary movie with friends or throw a costume party with friends . So you can leave the trick-or treating for the younger kids . As a teen or adult, you can still celebrate trick-or treating or Halloween by decorating , dressing up in costume and by handing out candy. Another way to enjoy Halloween and if you want to help out, you could take your younger sibling trick-o-treating and maybe some of the people handing out candy might give you some or if you have a neighbor that has a little kid, you could take them trick-or treating.
One more reason you might want to stop trick-or-treating is you may be the only one going trick- or-treating at your age. It much more exciting doing activities with friends and not alone.
One last reason to stop trick-or-treating at the end of middle school or beginning of high school is that you realize yourself that you might be too old for trick-or-treating and you realize that you are not a kid anymore.
So I think kids should stop trick-or treating around 8th grade. As you get older and if you love Halloween, there are many other things to do and still have fun.
I believe that kids should stop trick-or-treating around freshman/sophomore year of high school. Reason number one is because you start to lose the spirit of Halloween around the middle of high school year. Reason number two is that it gives smaller kids a chance to get to the candy also. Finally reason number three is high schoolers tend to dress more inappropriate on Halloween.
My first reason for this is people start losing the Halloween spirit around the middle of high school. As kids start to get older, running around knocking on total strangers doors for candy probably starts to get boring after doing it for like 15-16 years already. Some high schoolers lose the spirit by just wearing a basketball jersey and calling yourself LeBron James instead of putting real effort and time to come up with a costume.
My second reason is because it gives smaller kids a chance to get to the candy, I mean who would want to ruin a little four year olds night because the person you went to gave you the last piece of candy. Some small kids go later than other people do and if high school kids stop trick-or-treating it will have bigger chances that those people will get a lot of candy too.
Finally my third reason is high schoolers usually start to dress more inappropriate on Halloween then when they were smaller like, wearing scary masks. Its never happened to me but I don't think I would like it if some kid came up and scared me then took my candy. Why would somebody want to make a kid cry then make it worse by taking their candy and make them go trick-or-treating all over again.
I believe that kids should stop trick-or-treating around the middle of high school. My reasons for this are first of all high schoolers start to lose the Halloween spirit around the middle of high school. My second reason is it gives smaller kids a chance to get to the candy also. Finally my last reason for my belief is high schoolers start to dress inappropriate on Halloween.
I think kids should stop Trick-or-Treating in 8th grade because the older kids play more pranks and dress inappropriately. The reason kids should Trick-or-Treat until 8th grade is because kids are still in the spirt of Halloween. In high school all they want to do is egg people's houses and throw toilet paper on houses, cars, and trees. If high schoolers see a bowl of candy out on a porch they might dump the whole thing into there bag and leave none for the younger kids. High schoolers should stop Trick-or-Treating because little kids don't wear inappropriate costumes or wear ones that bring fear to little kids and ruin their Halloween. I feel if you are in high school and you want some candy go Trick-or-Treating but if you want to play pranks and terrorize little children save it for a different day or no at all.
I think kids should stop Trick-or-Treating in 8th grade because the older kids play more pranks and dress inappropriately. How old is too old to trick-or-treat? Some say when you start or finish middle school. Others say when you start or finish high school. I think you should stop once you enter high school.
By the time you enter high school people start treating you like adults, so don't you think you need to start acting like one? High schoolers when they trick-or-treat they use very different costumes. When I was younger, I used to see people dressed up as robbers, princesses, and some didn't even wear anything at all! Isn't that gross? Because I think it is!
When older high schoolers trick-or-treat, it's more of a trick then a treat. Teens will often push little kids so they can be the first ones to get candy. They can go and scare little kids with their scary masks and costumes.
Whenever I see adults give candy to little kids and none to teens, I always think that those adults are taking the middle schoolers or teen's child hood away. Teens get to go out at night and knock on doors for candy. Parents don't usually let kids go out at night and knock on strangers doors on an ordinary day? Not at all. Like, who doesn't like candy?
Think about this...is it better for them to go out with their friends, wear funky costumes, and get free candy then just have then as couch potatoes. Parents need to let kids enjoy their childhood. Not letting middle schoolers or high schoolers trick-or-treat is like taking a part of their childhood since they have been celebrating it for a long time.
When do you think kids should stop TRICK -OR TREATING. I think kids should stop at the age of high school. Because big kids can scare little kids. Some kids think halloween is life. kids need to have it is the day can a lot of candy.
One reason kids in high school are they bigger and older . We people need to be nice. Trick or treating is life to same people. When stop it will be in high school. we need a system to trick or treating.
My system is olly kids can go out. Because kids can get scared of older people. bigger scare small kids. kids need to lean halloween is fun for most people. people need to sill need to be nice.
now we now system of trick or treating .an trick or treating is a gift to get candy and hang out with family, friends and go out.
so we thought thow trick or treating is life to see people just like. because people need to get their fun out of them.We now know halloween is a special treat. I hope you have fun.

Many say that people should stop Trick-or-Treating around the end of high school or middle school. However, I strongly disagree. My belief is that people should only stop Trick-or-Treating when they are no longer able to. The reasons I have for this belief are that Trick-or-Treating is for everyone of all ages, the disabled should not go out, and that this holiday is about horror and creepiness making it the perfect time to dress up in a scary costume and getting candy from the neighborhood. First, everyone, young and old, are able to Trick-or-Treat in my eyes. Doing this can let neighbors meet the people living around them better, and not just know the children and parents. Many neighborhoods have older people that don’t get out too often just for a holiday. Secondly, everyone in all of their lives should be able to go out and have fun wearing a costume and saying “Trick-or-Treat”. The disabled and frail are the ones that I would keep away from Trick-or-Treating. These people are ones with serious injuries, serious diseases, and just aren’t able to walk around with screaming kids, running people, and terror filling costumes. It is possible of dying from fright and going into shock that could eventually kill a person. Serious injuries like broken legs, recovering from a bad injury, or being confined to a bed would keep the person from enjoying the full experience. Diseases could be wearing down on someone if he or she is out and about, and others might catch the disease as well if it is contagious. Teens and university students scaring the little ones just shows that these people have the spirit of Halloween. Scaring others and creepy horrifying things are what define Halloween; Not letting teens, university students, and middle school students out to dress up and Trick-or-Treat is basically restricting people that are going out to also show what Halloween is all about. People of all ages should be allowed to go Trick-or-Treating except people with restrictions like injuries and diseases. Anyone should be allowed to go and have fun, meet neighbors, and be able to scare others. These are the reasons that I believe that people should always have the chance to Trick-or-Treat no matter how old they are.
I think that until 8th grade people should stop trick-or-treating,this is because most middle schoolers still enjoy halloween because of the spirit, not because of the candy.Middle schoolers can be mature most of the times.
My first reason is because most middle schoolers can think rationally about wearing inappropriate costumes and inappropriate language.Little kids should enjoy halloween right?Little kids must roam neighborhoods feeling safe. Most middle schoolers don’t go around stealing candy and terrorizing little kids with scary costumes.Middle schoolers should be able to go trick-or-treating.
My second reason is what if little kids have big brothers or sisters and the little kids want their older siblings to with them, then the older siblings can’t go and maybe neither the little kid.The little kid will miss a year of halloween, that is just not fair.Parents want little kids to have enough candy, and they dont want teenagers to ruin the little kid’s halloween night.
My last reason is that everyone should enjoy halloween because this is the only holiday that everybody can enjoy. It doesnt matter if there are teenagers that try to ruin other people’s halloween night. If those type of people are like that, then let them jus ignore them and they wont get any fun out of it.
This is why I think that children that are 9th grade and older should not trick-or-treat.I understand that some high schoolers might rebel against this, but this is alright.
I believe that kids should stop trick-or-treating at the start of high school. This is because in high school they start losing the halloween spirit, and just put a scary mask on and they call that a costume, and most importantly ruining other kids spirit of halloween. By scaring smaller kids and making it hard to have fun.
If teens are going to go trick-or-treating they shouldn't ruin it for other people that still can actually enjoy halloween. They should at least stop scaring smaller kids to death. They want to enjoy their night with all the candy the earned. Teens can just go to a store and buy candy not have to go and take candy from other kids, and destroy their fun night with all their candy.
Teens don’t enjoy halloween they like playing pranks on little kids that can’t really do anything about it; what would a fourth grader do to tenth grader. There completely vulnerable target to a high schooler and their pranks. Older kids, are taller and bigger than smaller kids which, could easily turn a kids best night to the most horrible night ever in only a matter of minutes.
Older kids are too sneaky around their parents they always get away with everything. They say “I’m going to library to study” or “ I’m going to my friends house to study for my test”, but there just going to prank someone or ruin someones day. So I think teens should not be allowed to trick-or-treat.
Therefore older should stop trick-or-treating with younger kids because for the most part teens are reckless careless to other kids. The only time they are helpful is when an adult is around.
Jonathan J. (Red Core) 10/21/14 Jonathan J. respond to Griffin E. (Argument)
Griffin you do have great reasons that teenagers should stop when they’re out of high school (which is cool), but i disagree. Halloween is a rare holiday, but high schoolers ruin it for little kids who want to have a blast. Since high schoolers have done halloween about 14 times they should let little kids have that chance. Secondly candy is good, but high schoolers might take more candy and leave none for the youngsters. Of course high schoolers still have spirit in them. In my opinion (sadly) high schoolers will set a bad example for kids when they do inappropriate things.
First high schoolers like halloween, but little kids want to have that chance to have halloween too. Even though halloween is a rare holiday and high schoolers want to spend the rest of there days until college to do it, we need to make sure little kids get to have fun with halloween to. Sure it’s a great holiday and it’s the only holiday you get to get lots of candy and trade with your friend’s candy, but lets let the younger kids have the joy of having all of that candy!
Secondly, when adults give out candy and you’re a little kid coming to a house at lets say 8:45 and knock on the door and the adult opens it up and says “were out of candy, sorry” that would suck. I think this because when you're a high schooler you probably will take more candy than the little kids can. There probably is enough candy, but you never know if there will be enough. Plus if an adult says grab some and high schoolers will just grab a bunch while little kids can only grab 2 or even 3.
My final reason is that when high schoolers get old they get more immature. There are some who are mature, but mostly are immature. I’ve seen some dress up inappropriately or say some things that are bad in front of little kids who might catch on. Personally high schoolers make halloween fun just for them not for anyone else. Also high schoolers just don’t think about everyone else around them they just terrorize people or even ruin the parents who like seeing kids dress up. Lets help everyone and make the community a better place.
You see high schoolers should not be trick-or-treating. They ruin halloween for everyone especially little kids. Secondly they take way more candy than the little kids. Lastly they just are too inappropriate for halloween. So now i hope you know why teenagers should not be trick-or-treating with little kids.
I think that kids should stop trick-or-treating at the end of elementary. I say this because it would look kind of stupid for a middle schooler or a high schooler asking for candy while dressed up in devilish or inappropriate costumes just for the sake of getting free candy.
I also think that big kids should not trick-or-treat because they can make bad decisions like vandalizing and disturbing the peace. On the news last Halloween, it show that big kids were not making right decision by vandalizing and disturbing the peace and lots of other inappropriate things. Its not like they want to dress like a fairy or a princess for Halloween but, they should not trick-or-treat if their going to not do the wright thing.
I think that Halloween is a fun night for kids because they get to eat a lot of candy and then they get many cavities, than their parents have to pay their dentist bill, but thats not a good thing. Its not like big kids are going to stay up eating candy all night and get cavities, they should already outgrown those things.Although if they haven't matured yet and there still wearing a fairy costume as a high schooler they really need to grow up!
Although I don’t believe in trick-or treating because it is not in my religion,I am going to stick with this theory, even though I don’t know much. But I might be wrong and others might be wright. So this is my thought about when people should stop trick-or-treating.
Griffen,i agree with you on some of your things but i also dont.Ya, teens love the taste of candy but no thay should be responsible enough to go out and buy there own candy.
They should be able to dress up for fun but be responsible to go out and help a younger kid go trick-or-treating.Parents love seeing the smile on kids face;although there`s always 1 group of kids that are always putting frowns on there face because there being bullies or just being disrespectful to them.
I agree with you on a few things like, your never to old to spoil the fun and,ask your parents, but the parents without kids or are just grouchy don`t understand the life of a teen because they don`t know the experience of having a kid.
I know there are teens out there that are good but if you look out at others the bad teens set a bad influence on the good, responsible kids. if a teen misses having to dress up on halloween they can celebrate it in another way like going to a party instead of ruining a kids day.
Therefore i think kids should stop trick-or-treat in middle school because theres not a need for a grown kids to go.
Calleah H (Green Core) Masenhimer (5) October 17 2014 Halloween Debate
I believe that kids should stop trick-or-treating around the middle of high school. I think this because by the middle of high school you are not really into the whole dressing up for candy. I also believe this because if higher schoolers decide to dress up they go with inappropriate costumes. Lastly my belief for this is because High schoolers need to cut the little kids some slack.
By the middle of their high school year; High Schoolers are not motivated to dress up in order to get candy. High school students are sometimes are very lazy or they have a lot of homework to do or something in school has come up , so they think that going as themselves id better then taking the time to come up with a good costume. It also takes quite a bit of effort. Not just throwing on you baseball cap and a jersey and calling it good. Not even close. It means going and picking out a costume so people will question if that is really you under there , or recognizing the character that you are from you favorite movie. made a costume of your own? Great, then people will ask what you are wanting to be.
Another reason that kids should stop trick-or-treating near the middle of highschool is because high schoolers like to go as very inappropriate things. They dress up as scary as possible sometimes just so that they can scare the littler kids (thats mostly the guys). The girls like to go as something sassy and inappropriate; like going in s mini skirt and high heels with a belly shirt.
My last reason for my belief that high schoolers should stop trick-or-treating is that they have had many years of trick-or-treating because they are much older. They have had many years to enjoy the feeling of walking around with friends or family and getting to get as much candy as they can while they were young. I think that they should give the younger kids a little slack. The little kids deserve to be able to go around and not feel scared that a high schooler is going to come and scare the absolute bejesus out of them. They also deserve to be the ones to get more candy. i maen if i go trick-or-treating i don’t want some person who is older than me pushing me out of the way or stealing my candy. Would you? No probably not.
Kids should stop trick-or-treating their middle years of high school. The reasons being they are not modivated to dress up anymore. Another reason being that they are if they are modivated to dress up then they are dressing up as nasty or very inaporpiate things. Lastly is because they have had many years of trick-or-treating for themselves they should let the little kids enjoy it.

Josh, I believe all kids have a good side, But even though some kids choose not to show it, that shouldn’t mean all teens should be punished.
there might be more bad than good;but if some good kids get overruled by the bad, everyone will be bad little scums [not leaning toward any kids in this school].
reason 1, In your text, you mentioned that some kids wear inappropriate close. What do you mean by them being ‘’inapropet’’. One thing you have to remember is that these kids have parents.Plus, Halloween is a time of fear and memories, scaring someone is just another form of this season. And how can you wear something inappropriate? Do you mean things like scary costumes or things like men running around with braws?
My second reason is that, most kids do enjoy halloween, thats one reason why they go trick-or-treating. My final reason is that, some of the kids really on their older brothers/sisters. They can’t be running around the neighborhood uncontrollably. Who knows what would happen? They might get hurt, kidnapped, or even killed!

Ryan N. Green Core 10/22 Halloween Debate: Argument Against Liam G. Liam, you have some good points, however, I disagree with you. Kids NEED to stop trick-or-treating after 8th grade. Here are some reasons why. One, yes kids do have a little Halloween spirit, but sometimes they think they can do anything they want(i.e. scare children, take all the candy, egg houses, etc…)but they SHOULDN’T be allowed to. They simply take the power they have to far. Secondly, when you said “They deserve one last year before homework gets piled on top of them.” doesn’t make sense to me. We all get homework, and what does homework even have to do with Halloween? And, when you said “As we all know, High School can be a place of torture with the amount of homework.” how would we know what high school’s like? Sure, you may have older siblings that went to high school, and they told you what High School’s like, things change, especially since we’re only in 7th grade. My third, and final argument is when you said “And High Schoolers aren’t really into scaring little kids,” how would you know? Have you done it? We don’t really have proof that High Schoolers do or do not scare little kids,so you're stating an opinion, there’s nothing there to support it. All in all, your arguments are talking about what YOU THINK HIgh Schoolers are like, but you don’t have any proof or idea that high schoolers actually do this, or what high schoolers are like. However, I proof with my argument, since I know what middle schoolers are like because I AM A MIDDLE SCHOOLER. Kids NEED to stop trick-or-treating after 8th grade so none of this happens.

Griffin, you have made a lot of excellent points, but I disagree and think trick-or-treating should end in eighth grade. Teens do not respect the spirit of Halloween enough to be trick-or-treating. I understand that some teens do, but most do not. Don’t get me wrong, it would be awesome to always trick-or-treat all the way through high school, but there comes a time where you get too old to be doing childish things like playing with action figures and dolls. You might say that you will always trick-or-treat, but one day you might wake up and realize that you don’t want to anymore. Like there was probably a time when you thought ‘I will always like to play with dollies\action figures’ when you don’t anymore. My first reason, is that teens dress up in inappropriate costumes. Teen girls wear costumes that are way too short, or look nothing like the cute little Dorothy in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ that you are SUPPOSED to look like. Teenage boys wear too scary costumes that scare little children. I can’t imagine a teenage boy wanting to be a cowboy like he was 7 when he is 17.
My second reason is that teens can not be trusted to behave while trick-or-treating. They are too much of trouble makers. They want to scare little children, take too much candy, and vandalize property. They can be persuaded to do bad things by friends or are under pure pressure. Teens also can take more candy than littler kids with their big hands. Older kids can also push little kids out of the way to get to the candy. My third reason is that even though I think you shouldn’t be trick-or-treating past eighth grade doesn’t mean you can’t still dress up and go to Halloween parties or haunted houses; or you could just stay home and hand out candy to the kids at the door. I am saying that I believe after eighth grade, we should stop running around going door to door asking for candy. And even though I think that we shouldn’t be trick-or-treating after that point doesn’t mean we can’t eat candy some other time in the year, candy isn’t restricted to Halloween. In conclusion, I believe kids should stop trick-or-treating eighth grade. Teens do not respect the spirit of Halloween, they vandalize, and all they want is candy or to make trouble. They also dress in inappropriate costumes and should stop acting like little kids
Hailey B. Masenhimer.(red) 10/17/2014 Halloween Debate
People should stop trick-or-treating after high school. High schoolers should do that because one, everybody deserves candy two, this is their last year of not being a grownup, and three they need to relieve stress anyway.
Everybody deserves candy. When you're a grownup you don’t get as much candy and it’s not fair; also life isn’t like kindergarden, you don't get rewarded for spelling your name right. Sometimes high schoolers just need a break or a reward.Candy also has the sweet taste that everyone loves.
The second reason is that high school is very stressful. If middle school has this much homework imagine how much you will have in high school! There are so many things to stress about like college, and don’t forget your aptitude test. At that point I’d need candy! My sister always tells me how stressed she is and is always complaining so I would sort of know how hard it is. The third reason is that this is your last year of not being an adult, yet responsibilities double when you're an adult. Plus you need to celebrate! As an adult you might not get to celebrate or have as much fun. It’s kind of sad,but it’s true we will become an adult someday.
those are my three reasons I hope you enjoyed listening and agree with my ideas.I know some of my ideas might sound dumb but try to put yourself in my shoes. Halloween, a holiday in October, should be enjoyed by everyone!
Griffin your ideas are fabulous, but as pre-usual I must disagree with your point for many reasons as of safety, meanness and of course the usual teenage recklessness.
your ideas were great and I know that eventually everybody gets embarrassed by something and occasionally the teens will like bullies take out their pain on others especially younger kids which results in problems with safety. I also know that nobody should have their fun spoiled, but with the recklessness of teenagers these days it just doesn't seem safe. Now when it comes to holidays its all fun and games but even if one screw in the rail is loose it can derail the entire train, and what i mean by that is if one teen is being reckless or mean it can ruin the experience for everybody else there from the behavior of the high-schoolers. As impetuous as teens may follow the rules, may follow the rules meaning only a small percent are like this and in my opinion thats not enough to let them go trick-or-treating with smaller kids in hordes around them in which they can be a bad example for.
To conclude this piece I would like to say that I do not believe in high-schoolers should be trick-or-treating with smaller children which they can harm set bad examples and be immature around.
Aly D. Red core 10/21/14 Halloween Debate: Argument against Nikki F. (green core)
Nikki, you do have some great points but I still think that trick-or-treating should end in eighth grade. One of the reasons is that yes kids do you only have that childhood festivity left but it's not like they stop celebrating those holidays, right? The next reason is they might have more fun in a party with their friends, and the last reason is they take advantage of the scaring of younger children.
High schoolers might not believe in Santa or the Easter bunny, but they still participate in the activities. When Christmas comes around people stop getting presents from Santa but they don't stop receiving gifts from their family. Or when Easter comes they still celebrate the holiday and do other activities but might not get baskets. It's not that they stop celebrating altogether but might reduce the childish acts that these holidays include and start respecting and doing them in an adult manner.
Lots of other kids want to hang out with kids their age and friends of their own. They don't want to walk around the neighborhood to bump into younger kids. They might choose to go to a party where they can hang out with their friends or go somewhere scary where they could scare people and not get in trouble for it. I do understand that the reason people like Halloween is because of the free candy. High Schoolers are at the age where they need to start actually worrying about their weight and not eating too much of the junk. It is not a bad idea to eat a candy bar or two on Halloween because that is one of the main points of it. A party will only offer you so much candy, but trick-or-treating offers you millions of homes and thousands of handfuls. So it is smarter to go to a party with your friends and have less candy than trick-or-treating with younger kids and getting more candy.
Of course older kids scare the younger kids. Most parents do care about this problem, but some don't, these parents know that when they were younger they did this and it wasn't a great outcome. They do not want their kids to be like them when they were younger. When you were younger and you were getting scared by the older ones weren't you upset, why would you want to be the person that makes a younger kid upset and make them feel the way that you did. If the younger kids wanted to be scared then they would go someplace that was meant for scarring, for example a maybe a haunted house. Halloween is just for fun and is not a great place for scaring. I'm not saying that you aren't allowed to dress up scary I'm saying that you shouldn't over exaggerate and scare the younger ones.
Trick-or-treating should stop at the age 14; because people have more holidays they can celebrate, teens have other interests, and they abuse the privilege of a scary night. Although you have great points, high schoolers (although some don't) can ruin the fun in Halloween for younger children.
to Wyatt D. by Makenna C. red core Halloween debate: argument
Wyatt, while you have many good ideas about how people of any age, even 77 years and up, should still be able to go trick-or-treating theres a few things you missed. Like ( a ) I get that all teens aren’t bad, but some are and all they’ll do is terrorize the little kids. ( b ) I understand that teens still want to feel young and eat the candy they get from trick-or-treating, but they can get that in different ways. And ( c ) yes kids and adults alike should be allowed to choose when to stop, and they do.
I completely understand where you coming from with the whole all teens aren’t all bad thing, and some aren’t, but many are. I agree that if teens show up and just say “yo, give me candy,” that they don’t deserve anything, and I’ve had that happen to many times in my life to want to give any of them anything. But if they do say it nice and respectfully it’s their choice if they still want to give it out, yet if they do the little kids could be left with either nothing or the really bad, broken candy at the bottom of the bowl.
Yes, teens still want to feel young and eat as much Halloween candy as they can, but I’m sure they can find another means of getting it. A lot of times teens can work or will already have enough money to buy their own candy. But in a case where they don’t they’ll probably end up going to a party anyway and there’s always candy at parties. Or they can wait ‘till late at night when all the little kids are gone to see if there’s any left in their own bowl.
Yes, kids should get to choose when they want to stop trick-or-treating, and most do. Most teens/adults will still dress up and want candy, but they’re costumes are either ( a ) sometimes too inappropriate for little kids, or ( b) too scary and will freak the little kids out too bad they’ll have nightmares and never want to do trick-or-treating again. Can you imagine that?, never being able to go trick-or-treating because you’re too terrified of the werewolf or zombie you saw last year.
Trick-or-treating should end in eighth grade. I believe this for these reasons ( a ) some teens will just terrorize the little kids. ( b ) Teens can get all the candy and leave none for the little kids. And ( c ) kids will probably stop in High school anyways and just go to parties instead.
hello Liam I don’t agree with your theory, because do you really think it is mature as a 9th grader to dress up in fairy costumes or inappropriate costumes and make bad decisions or disturbing the peace on Halloween night. this is why my theory is that they should stop at the end of elementary school, because little kids worry more about candy than bigger kids.therefor if big kids trick-or-treat they will try to ruin kids fun night by scaring them to get candy and acting like jerks. But it makes sense if the big kids are chaperoning the little kids but if they're going with all their friends and looking for trouble they should not trick-or-treat.
I really don’t agree with you that they are scaring kids not on purpose haven't you seen 9th graders they really have no respect to kids, they think they're the rulers of everything.I also don’t like how you said that they deserve one more year I think instead of being a fairy or princess,or something scary for there last year, they should just go to the store and get a bunch of candy, and eat it all in there room. They can also have a sugar rush and run on the walls like a little kid,and get many cavities. In conclusion your theory is pretty good but I would not go with yours no offense, but I just don't like it so no hard feelings and good luck!

Alexia you have alot of good reasons why you should stop trick-or-treating in high school. Although I disagree i think you should stop trick-or-treating at the end of middle school. Like you said high schoolers tend to scare little kids. High schoolers are a little to old to be trick-or-treating. Also they can just go out and by there own candy
Like you said high schoolers tend to scare little kids or they either push them to be first in line to get candy. It happend to me when I was young , I used to get scared by the older kids. Sometimes I would want to go home to not see there scary masks .High schoolers would sometimes push me to be first in line . I dont think thats fair to little kids to get pushed and scared .
High schoolers are to old to be trick-or-treating. Honestly If I were giving out candy I woudn’t want to give a high schooler candy. It woudn’t be fair that most high schoolers take all the candy and theres none left for the little kids.I know your saying it would take there childhood away but I dont think so because there becoming adults and most of the time they dont trick-or-treat anymore. Also most of the time high schoolers stop trick-or-treating at the end of middle school or during middle school.
High schoolers can just go out and buy there own candy. There hitting the age were they would start working. They can just go to the store to buy as much candy as they want for themselfs. Its more fair for the little kids.
Yes you have alot of good ideas but I honestly think its not fair for the little kids. When they can just go out and buy there own candy .Also I dont feel like it would take the high schoolers childhoods away. Also woudn’t they still be couch potatoes?
Taye M. argument with Griffin E. red core argument 10-21-14
Griffen, you have good ideas ,but I disagree about your opinion that kids should stop trick-or-treating at high school. I believe that high schoolers are too interpropiate, will not enjoy it, and will take advantage of halloween.
You should have your freedom and fun, but teenagers will scare smaller kids and will also dress interpropiataly. When kids grow older they become mean, and not follow the rules; some are nice but most of them do bad things. Teenagers will also learn more bad subjects like bloody movies and video games, if they like it they may wear a costume from it that is to interpropiate for young ones.
When kids grow they will also start not enjoying halloween like many after. They may not enjoy it anymore because adults will act nicer or more friendly to the young ones which sounds mean ,but they are trying to not ruin the kids fun by waiting forever and not having candy; the teenagers may also steal the candy that someone leaves on the porch to help for kids to help themselves. They may not also enjoy it anymore because their friends are starting to quit and also not enjoy it.
Some teenagers are good and do not break the law ,but most teeenagers will do bad things. Teenagers will take advantage of halloween and maybe egg houses, toilet paper a house, or will break into houses when no one is around. I believe that kids should have fun, but not illegal activities. When at high school you become more selfless, and break the laws for your own enjoyment.
Griffen, kids should have fun but after you have got out of middle school you become more allowing to bad stuff, will not enjoy it much, and would have bad choices.
Lilly H. ; Halloween Debate Red Core Per:4 10-22-14 arguing against Nikki F.
Nikki, although you have really good ideas, I totally disagree with you. My first reason is, you are saying Halloween is for children, and how its a childhood memory. Well high school kids are not kids anymore. And you are hoping that high school kids are going to behave on Halloween night? Most likely they won’t, because it’s natural for teenagers to scare or even take all of the candy from the little kids. My second reason is; costumes. You were right about that, as people get older they start to wear inappropriate costumes or even scary ones. When teenagers wear scary costumes, there most likely going to scare someone (most likely a little kid), and that would just ruin their night. And then you’ve got the girls and even some guys who start wearing inappropriate clothes once they are in eighth grade, and that's a bad example to little kids. My third reason is, Once you are in eighth grade you start to grow up. You start to want to hang out with your friends more than your family, and there is nothing wrong with that. So they start to go to parties or sleepovers. And they go Trick-Or-Treating in groups usually, and they take all the candy. I mean like, who would want to say to a four year old “ im sorry, but we have no more candy” to the point where they only have about ten pieces of candy, compared to teenagers who get bags of candy. My fourth reason is, little kids have very good imagination. And as they get older they start to lose it, so their imagination is to be funny. So they do stupid things to be funny. For example; if a teenager is having a party they could bring alcohol, or even drugs to try to be cool looking, and they could get in a lot of trouble for that. Last but not least, my final reason why people should stop Trick-Or-Treating by the end of middle school is because, parents who are giving out candy most likely won’t give candy to older kids because they want enough candy for younger kids. Then the teenagers get mad, and might take it out on the parents or themselves. And thats not good. That is why I disagree with you Nikki. Trick-Or-Treating should end in Middle School in my opion.
Andy R. Red core initial post Andy R responding to Griffin E Griffin E, you have really good points however I disagree with you. I think that we should stop Trick-or-Treating in 8th grade. I say this because we seem to stop dressing up and terrorize little kids as we grow. Also we really aren’t embarrassed to be in a halloween costume. The reason we stop is because we grow out of the fact that we arent little kids anymore. First,we stop dressing up because we think that we are to old. In that way we just buy scary masks and scare kids that are younger than us, and we also waste time from parents by having them look over us. And also if we do dress up in high school we mostly think that inappropriate costumes are “The new model.” Second argument is if we do dress up we wear scary costumes that even scare kids my age! In this case we are more scared of teens than monsters or ghost; however, some teens are nice and dress up in appropriate costumes. “I’m so scared,” was the one fact that most kids said after being chase by teens wearing scary masks. Third and last reason is we really don’t enjoy Halloweens spirit at older ages, nor do we enjoy it in younger ages. This is because some kids are just terrified of going Trick-or-Treating alone. They dont want to put up with the teens chasing you or spooking you. Maybe thats the reason older kids say that they are “embarrassed.” they probably don’t want to be seen wearing a scary costume but being chased by a teen with a scary mask. All I’m saying that most teens don’t know how to hold their temptation of terrorizing little kids. Or how to dress appropriately. And they really don’t support Halloween.
Masenhimer Green Core 10/20/14 Lorelei k said... Lorelei K Green Core Initial Post 10/20/14 Halloween Debate: Trick-or-Treating Initial Post
Sofia C Green Core Argument against Lorelei K 10/23/14
Lorelei K, your ideas are wonderful, but I disagree that kids sound be still Trick-Or-Treating at the age of 9th grade. First off the kids will be more likely to destroy property, wear inappropiate costumes and not act mature. First off people in 9th grade will be dressing up in inappropriate costumes and also scary costumes. That will be putting a bad influence on kids, making them think it would be ok for him/her to wear inappropriate costumes. When kids wear scary costumes on Halloween it will be scary for all the little kids that are trick-or-treating, therefore having to endure being scared. As you said that they feel like it is ok for them to dress inappropriate and scare little children is one more reason that they do not show that they are mature enough to go trick-or-treating without getting themselves trouble, and scaring little kids. Second off they will be more likely to destroy property and do pranks. When kids the age of 9th grade think that it is ok for them to go and prank people houses, thinking that they won't get caught. When they toilet paper some house it is making a huge mess to clean up. What if they took pumpkins that kids worked very hard on and decided to smash them. That would very much be a huge disappointment to a little kids. When little kids see this again will think that it will be ok for them to go ahead and do them when they get older. You said that the kids will be more mature and not do pranks. But I disagree because when you get older you think that it wonld be more fun to prank someone house than to go trick-or-treating. They are not responsible by not dressing up appropriability and pranking. When kids do that it will strongly influenced little kids and make them think that it is perfectly ok to do so. To some it all up I believe that you sound stop trick-or-treating at the age of 12 or 13 because of the the of inappropriate costumes, pranking, not being mature. I hope that this will change the way you are thinking.
Wyatt, you have some things in your writing that are great, but some of the things that you have said I disagree with you about. You think some teens are good but there are probably more bad teens than good ones. Also, you don’t want the teens ruining the spirit of Halloween of the little kids. The last thing is that it would be pretty embarrassing if you were in your thirties out asking people for candy.
The first reason is that most teens aren’t that good of kids. On the night of Halloween most of the teens out there trick-or-treating will be egging or toilet papering people’s houses; They are not knocking on doors asking for candy. Also, teens would freak out some of the adults giving out candy because they’re like all 6 feet tall and taking handfuls of candy. These teens aren’t that good of kids.
The second reason is that these teens will ruin the spirit of Halloween for the little kids. Teens might freak out the little kids because they are like twice their size and age. If some 7 or 8 year old sees a high schooler dressed up like a zombie, they might think it is a real zombie. Also teens might be doing inappropriate things that might scare kids to death. High schoolers shouldn’t be out on the streets trick-or-treating.
My final argument is that if you were in your thirties knocking on people’s doors for candy, it would be quite embarrassing to you and if you had some other kid with you. First of all, you would be knocking on doors with people the same age as you and that would be a little weird. Also, sometimes you might see adults out there, but don’t assume they’re trick-or-treating, they are probably keeping an eye on their kids and not knocking on doors asking for candy.
These high schoolers shouldn’t be out on the street, knocking on doors, and asking for candy. This is why: It would be a little embarrassing for them, they might ruin the spirit of Halloween for the smaller children, and most teenagers will probably end up doing something bad. Teens should not be trick-or-treating on the night of Halloween.
Samantha, I get what you are saying. However, what you are telling me is that is ok for high schoolers to scary little kids and I disagree.
It is very uncommon to die from fright and going into shock that could eventually kill a person, But it is possible for a person to be scared and having a heart attack. If someone has heart issues, scaring them could cause the to die. However, there are many more people in this world that have good, strong hearts and will not die.
I do agree that serious injuries like a broken leg and/or recovering from a bad injury would keep people from enjoying the holiday. However, the disable can go out if they are with someone, watching them or going along with them . Being disabled does not mean that you can’t or shouldn’t get the right to go trick-or-treating, it simply means that you have a challenge. The young and old can go trick-or-treating ,but older people like grandma's and grandpa's could fall down or get push by younger kids.
You can not get a diseases unless its viral or contagious . You would have to touch that person then touch your eyes and put your hands in you mouth. Halloween is not about horror and creepiness . I think halloween is about going out and getting candy and hanging with friends.
In conclusion, I agree everyone in all of their lives should be able to go out and have fun wearing a costume and say “Trick-or-Treat”. But I don't think the meaning of Halloween is scaring others and is about creepy horrifying things.
Nikki i do get what you are trying to say , but i do disagree with your reasoning that trick-or-treating should end at highschool (freshman year) because although most teens do want candy they also go around scaring kids and if people are gonna scare kids and you don't like it that doesnt mean when you are in highschool that you do it too. My first reason is that if highschoolers scare you and then you go into highschool i think it is just wrong to scare kids. But i do get what you mean when you say that its ok to scare your little sibling and nephews but i don't think its ok to scare little random kids in the streets at night. Yes dressing up scary for halloween is a social norm but i think you are forgetting that teenagers will also get very inappropriate. although teenagers do want candy that does not give them the right to scare little kids at night.teenagers at night will also pull pranks because it is fun to do and that makes them look bad.. and also that teenagers can't dress up without teepeeing someones house or pulling other pranks teenagers always have to cause havoc. My second reason is that what if teenagers don't have little siblings to scare so does that make it okay to go around and scare other little kids, and I say its just not right because people especially older kids should not scare little 5th graders or even 2nd graders that doesn’t make you cool if you do that it just makes that teenager look mean and sets a really bad example. Also i don't think that parents would be okay with knowing that their little children are getting scared late at night by teenagers, but most teenagers don't even follow the rules of halloween most of them go around stealing candy or doing other inappropriate pranks to peoples houses My last reason is that If teenagers are trying to have fun with their friends i don't think that scaring kids is that fun; mostly because the kid getting scared is trying to enjoy the spirit of halloween and getting candy.I get that dressing up scary if kinda the point of halloween but i think you are forgetting about some teens might dress like really inappropriate for halloween, and i do get that halloween is probably the last thing that teenagers do celebrate but that doesn't mean that get to do whatever they want and scare little kids. Most high schoolers just want to go around and cause trouble but thats not fun for the people that they are doing it to. So i think that teenagers should not be participating in halloween, and because the adults just want their little kids to have fun on halloween but with tenagers in the way that hard i say this because most teenagers aren't mature enough to just get candy on halloween.
Sophie N. Green core 10/23/14 Halloween Debate Argument Against: Lorelei K.
I noticed that in your paragraph, you said kids should stop Trick - or - Treating after ninth grade, but I am going to have to disagree with you. I think kids should stop Trick - or - Treating in eighth grade because after they have reached that age, they do other things besides going and getting candy.
My first reason is teens in ninth grade tend to be obnoxious and rude to little kids and parents. Eighth graders don’t do that; they are polite when it comes to asking for candy from the parents, and they don’t scare little kids with their costumes. Also middle school aged kids are not likely to break rules because they are more respectful than high schoolers.
Secondly, eighth graders are least likely to destroy someones property (unless you are really bad). Middle school kids do not usually think about destruction on Halloween, they just think about how much fun they are going to have. High school aged kids are the ones who cause more destruction. Halloween is not a big deal to them like it is to younger children.
The third reason is some high school kids may know more but they are not as focused as we are in middle school. Although Halloween is for everybody, except when you get to a certain age group, the Trick - or - Treating just stops. Some high schoolers will dress up and go door to door asking for candy, but they are not very polite.
My point is that kids should stop Trick - or - Treating in eighth grade. This is because we don’t want any damage done to property or littler ones. Eighth grade is an appropriate age to stop going door-to-door.
Kaitlyn P. Responding to Liam G. Green core Halloween argument
Liam your writing is not that bad, however I disagree with you. In 9th grade most of them are done with trick-or-treating. They also like to scare the little kids on purpose, and they don’t think about their clothing.
In 9th grade most kids are concerned about being in high school; They Know that this is all going on there aplication for college. Remember when you went from Elementary school to Middle school, at first you didn’t get a lot of homework. In late October(Halloween) early November you got a whole lot more. Just think,in high school they will probably get a lot too. Also in high school most kids are done with trick-or-treating, instead they want to go have fun with there friends, by going to parties.
Not many of the 9th graders think like you do Liam. Some of my friend have older brothers that do that to little kids, on purpose. They think that it is funny or do it because some dumb person in their school dared them to. After they do it even if the do feel sorry it will not be because the realized it themselves, it will be because there parents yelled at them. That for me is not having halloween spirit.
Another reason I believe that 9th graders shouldn’t go trick-or-treating is that many wear inappropriate clothes. Most 9th graders don’t put a lot of thought into their clothes. Instead of thinking about little kids, they think about their own age group and what wat is appropriate to theirs. Not all 9th graders can be trusted to think about that.
In conclusion I think you have a good paper, I just disagree with it. I believe that 9th graders shouldn’t go trick-or-treating because they are concerned about their homework, they also like to scare little kids. The last reason is that they can’t be trusted to wear appropriate clothing. This is why I think 9th graders should not be out trick-or-treating.
Alliyah S responding to Grace S Grace S I do see where you are coming from about stop trick-or-treating when you are in high school, But I strongly disagree with your opinion. I think that they should stop before they get to 8th grade because they are way to mature at that point to be trick-or-treating. I think they should stop by the time they get to 7th or 8th grade because they might start wearing inappropriate costumes before they are a freshman. they might want to start wearing and doing things like that before that age. I know that some do because i have seen it before. Even though they are not that old some parents allow younger kids (than a freshman) wear some very inappropriate stuff. It might sound very untrue that parents let their kids wear something like that, but it is most new to me that they do. Most of the time it is younger parents though that think its funny to dress their kid up in a inappropriate costume, but most of the parents are still very young and haven’t completely grown up yet. Even though teens stay out late and don’t listen to their parents does not mean they wont start doing that when there a freshman i know many people that have started doing that and there only in 7th or 8th grade. That's why they should stop in 7th grade and not wait till there a freshman to stop trick-or-treating. they might be scaring little kids but anyone can do that at any age well as long as the person they are trying to scare is younger than them. My point is anyone can scare a little kid its not rocket science! think about it i could go out on Halloween and scare a little kid no problem. That's why we must stop when we are in 7th grade so we can prevent that all together. As my conclusion i disagree with you completely! Anyone at any age can buy and wear an inappropriate costume. If someone wants to not listen to their parents well then whatever! who's going to stop them you can do that at any age if you really want to. Someone can very easily scare a little kid if they wanted to. That's why we need to stop trick-or-treating when we are in 7th grade.
Chris H Chris’ arguement against Griffin Griffin you have some great points, but I disagree with you. I think its great that you think they should be themselves but I don’t think some high schoolers can handle being themselves without trouble being involved. I know candy is great but high schoolers can afford their own candy so their is enough for the littler kids. And lastly the adults that don’t give candy to the older kids are just trying to make sure that there is still some for the little kids so it isn’t all gone by the time the kids get there. First off is high schoolers being themselves; I don’t think they can handle that. One because most high schooler are too immature, or they can’t handle or control themselves. Some high schoolers (while being themselves) will use Halloween as a chance to scare little kids. I do think some high schoolers could handle trick-or-treating, but most can’t. Secondly candy, high schoolers can afford their own candy. If high schoolers went trick-or-treating some houses might run out of candy before the little kids get there. If high schoolers find a house that gives out candy, they like they will most likely tell their friends and they will all go to that one house and get all the candy. And lastly the reason adults don’t usually give candy to high schoolers. The reason is because the adults want there to be enough for all the little kids to get candy. If the high schoolers know that one houses won’t give them candy they are less likely to go to those houses. Also some teens will trample over the little kids just to get to a house first. I mean come on when you were little would you want people pushing and shoving you to get to a house? To sum it all up I think as soon as you hit 8th grade you should stop because high schoolers (usually) can’t handle being themselves. They can afford their own cand. And the adults don’t give candy to them because they want there to be enough.
Simon L. responds to Liam G. Liam, I think that your post is good, but I disagree with your opinion. I think that kids should stop trick-or-treating in middle school instead of high school. My reasons are that 9th graders have a lot of homework, they scare little kids on purpose, and they don’t like to dress up.
My first argument is that 9th graders have a lot of homework. I know that this is true because I have a brother in 9th grade. I have heard that high school does not have as much homework as middle school. Some 10th graders and above actually get less homework than the 9th graders. I also think that even when high schoolers are doing homework, they are thinking about how to scare kids. All the 7th graders I know, don’t want to scare little little kids. That is why I think that high schoolers don’t have a lot of homework.
My second reason is that high schoolers scare kids a lot. I have proof of that because when I was in elementary school I got scared by the mean high schoolers, and I did not like it. I also know that kids are not innocent. I know some high schoolers that would scare people on purpose, and not feel bad about it, after they scared the little kids. This is one reason why I think that high schoolers should not be trick or treating.
My last reason is that most high schoolers don’t have halloween spirit; they watch little kids dress up and be cute instead. Most high schoolers don’t go around mugging people; they go around begging their hearts out for candy. If they want to get candy; they actually have to earn it with an awesome costume. Most high schoolers don’t dress up so they don’t get credit, no credit = no candy. This is my last reason that high schoolers should not be trick-or-treating.
You have a really good initial post but I disagree that high schoolers should not be trick-or-treating. I think this because 9th graders have a lot of homework, they scare kids a lot, and they don’t have a halloween spirit.
Grace P.(green) 10/23 Halloween Debate Grace P. responded to Wyatt D. Wyatt , I respectfully disagree that everybody should be able to trick-or-treat. This is because I think trick-or-treating should stop in eighth grade. The reasons you stated to support your argument I will address.
Your first reason was that not all teenagers are bad. And that is true, but I can’t think of a time when teens who have eaten lots of candy haven’t got in trouble. In my experience when there is large groups of teenagers they tend to not be respectful; especially when asking for candy.
Your second reason was that kids just want to be kids. I personally think that most kids want to be older than they already are. And there are lots of ways that they can enjoy Halloween without trick-or-treating. Like going to parties, giving out candy, and spending time with friends instead.
I do think it’s fair to let people decide for themselves when it’s appropriate to stop trick-or-treating. However most people don’t want their kids out trick-or-treating with a bunch of 77 year olds. They also probably don’t want to give candy to 6ft. teens/adults asking for candy.
So, in conclusion I hope you see why high schoolers shouldn’t be out trick-or-treating. They can’t resist causing trouble, they are probably going to be partying and handing out candy anyway, and people don’t want to open their door to a bunch of six foot monsters.
Joseph B. responding to Wyatt D. I agree with you Wyatt D. about that not all teens are bad ,but some are. Some teens you can trust, and some you can’t. I do agree about the candy giving thing. But if that was a kid that said that I would still give them candy. Also some teens might still not want to trick-or-treat. And some might want to trick-or-treat, but can’t.
Jahir R. respond to wyatt D. First of all Wyatt you have really good reasons like “not all adults-teenagers are bad.”That was a good reason, but i still think that people should stop trick-or-treating until 8th grade. My first reason is Most teenagers are really immature and they don’t care if little kids get scared because of their costumes. My second reason is older people will make children uncomfterble. My third reason is That people shame most of the teenagers for doing bad stuff, and teenagers have a bad reputation.
My first reason is Most teens are really immature, which they inflict stuff upon others. What if the teens accidently kill someone because of stupidity or maybe even worse.Teens like to mess horse around and accidently do something that they will regret for the rest of their life. Now you see why teens are really immature.
My next reason is what if older people want to do harm upon children, now do you see why this is bad.Maybe a old person asks a child “hey, you want some candy i have some in my Van.”Now pedophiles could use halloween as camoflauge to lure children.Older people can just steal the candy from children and then maybe do bad stuff to that poor kid.Wyatt now do you see why this bad.
My last reason is that mostly all teens get acused of doing something bad and that is not good, yet that is their reputation.Teens can cause a lot of crimes because they are so energetic, that they can’t help themselves.Teens can be really nice and good, but it all depends on how their parents teach them or what goes on at their house. It’s really sad how the older people stereotype teens, just because they are tall immature doesn’t mean that they can cause trouble. It’s better for the adults to realize that teens are not always bad.
I think that 8th grade and up should stop trick-or-treating because they are going to ruin the fun for the small children that still love halloween.Wyatt you made some really good ideas, but I just think it wasn’t enough.Keep on trying alright.
I think you should stop bergen high. Because older kids like to soe off. there is one reason they stop at the age of 16. I would stop at the age of 21. trick or treating is a special treat. the not internet thing is crazy.but you can have fun at the same time.there is no we can on have fun. some halloween fun to most people. I hope people look cool on halloween. but not cool. Do you having fun agen candy every day. yes I do. josh would like to go in a haunted maze. I would.
Micah you have alot of good ideas but, I dissadree . The first reason why I dont agree with this post is I dont agree with having a trick-or-treating system. The second reason why I dissagree with this is I don’t think that people call halloween life. And the last reason is because I dont think that high schoolers should be able to trick-or-treat in high school. My reasons why I dissagree will be listed below. My first reason why I dissagree with this post is because I dont think halloween should have to have a system. My reason why I dissagree with this is because there are to many kids that want to go trick-or-treating to have an organized system it would take forever to make. Also teens wouldn’twant to be tracked by an orginized law that would tell them when to stop. People also won’t want cousequences for going trick-or-treating if they wanted to. And you said “only kids” but, some kids are to small to go alone and need a parent to be with them. My second argument is I dont think people want to call halloween life. This is a holiday that is one night out of the whole year. I can agree that kids can look forward to this holiday but, I don’t think they would be think about this holiday for 365 days. Also many kids in the united states don’t celebrate this holiday today . What I’m disagreeing with hear is kids calling halloween “life”. My final argument is I don’t think that high school is an inappropriate age to still trick-or-treat because some teens are immature and do things during the night like egg or TP someones house. I think that teens have better things to do with their time like… study for a test, hangout with friends, or even being at a sports event. Some teens grow out of this holiday so why not leave candy for the little kids? Also I know that little kids will have a better time without thee being older kids in scary coustumes. Over all of my reason’s I think high schoolers should not be trick-or-treating. I hope I persuaded you to think that you should stop trick or treating in eighth grade. My arguments were to prove to you and others that high schoolers should NOT be trick-or-treating at this age because some are inmature. You can be doing better things with your time. And teens can have more fun with friend and family.
Emily G.(red) 10/23/14 Argument Post:To:Justin H. (green)
To: Justin H. ( green) Emily G. Argument Post 10/23/14 Halloween Debate Argument
Justin H. you make a great point, but you are not completely correct. Kids in high school start wearing costumes that scare little kids around 7th and 8th grade. So little kids will be already being scared by older kids scary costumes, But yes you do make a very great point in ways. I agree with you high schoolers are not really in to the spirit of halloween but some teens actually still like going door to door each year. You are completely correct on that kids in high school can go buy there own candy instead of going trick-or-treating. But most teens blow all their money on video games and shoes and makeup etc. So they won't have money to buy there own candy.
My first reason is because ya halloween is supposed to be fun but around 8th and 9th grade kids feel the need to scare younger kids. Some high school mostly go trick-or-treating just to scare little kids. So stopping trick-or-treating in high school is not really a good idea. Not that you don't have good reasons why cause you do.
My next reason is because ya teens are not in the spirit of halloween anymore but some kids stop liking this halliday around 8th and 9th grades. Ya you do have a point teens don't do halloween so the can dress up and get candy. Ya teens do start playing pranks but most kids start playing pranks in 7th to 9th grades. So around those grades yes it is more trick than treat. So i think middle school is the best place to stop at.
My final reason is because. Yes you have a wonderful point wonderful point. Ya teens do have more freedom so therefore they may think they can do whatever they want. So we they go driving around they stop to scare or take candy from kids. Most teens when they hang out with there friends they do bad thing to impress their friends. Ya you make good point but there is still a chance of scaring little kids. But you have a great point.
That why i think stopping in high school is not such a good idea because. 7th and 8th graders feel the need to scare kids on halloween. Kids usually stop liking this holiday around 8th and 9th grade, and my last reason is high schooler when they hang out with their friends they end up doing bad thing just to impress then. Thats why i think kids should stop trick-or-treating before the start of high school. But Justin H. you had wonderful points but i think i will still stick with kids stopping trick-or-treating in middle school. I hope i was as nice as a could and this does not hurt you one bit. Have a great holiday Justin H. and happy halloween to you.
Nikki you have some good points, but I disagree with you on some. I think kids should stop Trick-or-Treating in middle school because when kids are in high school they are in a stage where they like to play pranks on people. If I was a little kid I would not want to go Trick-or-Treating. I would not want to be walking and have a 6 foot tall guy jumping out of a bush and scaring me.
The first reason is some high schoolers are mature and make good choices but others might not make good choices and might scare little kids out of pure enjoyment. The point of Halloween is to dress up scary. It may be fun to play pranks but what if you were a kid thats getting scared.
The second reason is yes Halloween is our last childhood memory because we don’t have the Easter bunny, or Santa claus, or the tooth fairy and yes we should take advantage of it but some might take it a little too far like egging peoples houses and just trashing the neighborhood and leaving it for the other people to clean up thats just not right.
The last reason why kids should stop in 8th grade instead of freshman year is because I wouldn’t want a bunch of 13 year olds and older running around screaming and being loud just for the fun of it and making everyone upset because it is 11:00-12:00 at night and they are keeping everyone up just because they want to.
Trick-or-Treaters should stop in 8th grade. I see a lot of high schoolers pulling pranks which can be scary and/or traumatizing to little kids which isn’t ok because I wouldn’t want to go Trick-or-Treating in fear of me being scared. Also it is disrespectful to communities to go around after curfew being loud. This is why people should stop Trick-or-Treating in 8th grade.
Jessef. red core argument against mattd. manheimer per 4 10/22/14
Yes Matt you have very good opinions but I think you are wrong because most 9 graders just want to hang out at parties. The parents might think that they're kids but they're more teen. Some teens are polite but not all. Halloween is not the only holiday that teen have sprit for, for example, some teens believe in Valentine's day and even the fourth of July.
Matt listen, the parents might think they're kids, but is 14-15 age group teens or kids? I believe they're more teens than kids, don't you?The reason i believe that, is because they are older than thirteen.
My second reason is that some teenage kids might want to just go hang out with friends or go to parties. When you're in middle school you don't really have many parties and you want to hang out with your buds while trick-or treating.
Matt, I understand that you think that Halloween is the only holiday that teens believe in. A Lot of teens believe in St. Patrick's day and valentine's day. Even if you don't believe Santa or the Easter bunny you can still believe in the spirit of the holidays because the are for all ages big or small.
So those are the reasons why I think that you are wrong.some teens do believe in the spirit of holidays plus some teens want to hang out at parties and some aren't just in to it that much as when they were kids.
I think you should stop trick-or-treating in the 9th grade because (1) when you're in highschool you start to lose the real meaning of Halloween, (2) you want (normally) to scare younger children, and (3) you'll start to wear inappropriate costumes.
What I mean by you'll lose the real meaning of Halloween is that you will no longer think trick-or-treating is fun. In addition, people may stop giving you candy if you're too tall. Or they think you are too old to be trick-or-treating. When this happens (which it probably will) they may not give you candy. My brother stopped trick-or-treating in the 9th grade not because his disliked Halloween but that he much rather watch a scary movies and eat candy with his friends.
You may think scaring young children is amusing, but it is very inappropriate. Think of they side effects of doing so, you may rouen Halloween for them. That is cruel and unfair punishment for trying to go out to have fun. Halloween is supposed to be fun not torture, or too scary. Then think of they punishment. If the children told their parents, an adolt, older sibling, or friend that you scared them them. You could get talk to by there parent or in more sereus cases the copes.
Wearing costumes that aren't family appropriate should not be wear on Halloween because you may scare younger kids. When you’re older you may start to wear more adolt costumes. This means you'll look either more scary or inappropriate. You may think that its fine to wear but it sill may be inappropriate.
You should stop trick-or-treating in the 9th grade because (1) when you’re in highschool you start to lose the real meaning of Halloween, (2) you want to scare younger children, and (3) you’ll start to wear more inappropriate, these are the reasons you should stop trick-or-treating in 9th grade.
When should you stop trick-or-treating?I think you should stop trick-or-treating after 8th grade, because at that age you can still enjoy halloween without hurting anybody’s feelings or scaring little kids. The reason we celebrate halloween isn’t because a mythical person or creature ,but it gives us a chance to dress up, be scared and have yummy treats that middle schoolers enjoy.
My first reason to support my theory is that at high school age people don’t really care about the spirit of halloween in it’s simplicity. They enjoy more of the tricks than the treats. High school age teenagers most of the time don’t even dress up like younger children do when they trick-or-treat. Then the teenagers just go around asking for candy expecting to get it without putting in the effort to dress up. This takes away the spirit of celebrating the holiday. Those teenagers who do dress up wear scary masks and frightening costumes that terrify the younger trick-or-treaters; stealing away the fun and candy of the night.
Another reason you should stop trick-or-treating after 8th grade is that this is the time when you would rather go to halloween parties, haunted houses, and haunted forests. Teenagers start to want to do stuff that is thought of as cool which doesn’t include trick-or-treating. Once you reach the 8th grade teenagers want to fit in and most everybody at that age doesn’t trick-or-treat anymore. At this age a more fun halloween experience would be had at a halloween party or haunted house.
My final reason for believing that you should stop trick-or treating at the end of 8th grade is that you have reached a certain level of maturity. At this age trick-or-treating starts to seem childish. Trick-or-treating starts to lose it’s appeal and fun. It can start to feel awkward to go up to some ones door and say trick-or-treat along with small children. Hopefully teenagers have matured enough to move on to a new level of halloween fun.
Lastly, to sum up, the age to stop trick-or-treating is after 8th grade is over. First high school age teenagers don’t care about the spirit of halloween and would rather have the tricks than the treats. Second, after 8th grade most teenagers would find halloween parties or haunted places more entertaining than just trick-or-treating. finally, I believe that teenagers should stop trick-or-treating after 8th grade because they have matured enough to realize that it is time to stop trick-or-treating.Now you know that I believe you should stop trick-or-treating at the end of 8th grade.
Chantel R(green core) responding to... Samantha T 10/22/14
Hey, Samantha I understand what you are saying, but not everybody needs to or wants to trick-or-treat. I say this because pretty much everybody I know that is in 9th grade or higher don’t want to trick-or-treat anymore, they would rather go to a haunted house or a party.
My first reason for thinking this is that someone older don’t really like getting scared or going out at night to get candy. They would rather stay at home and read a book or watch a T.V show or just take a nap. Besides one of the only candies that people that age like is chocolate. Also they wouldn’t want to dress up or go walk around just to get candy, they would rather pass out the candy.
My second reason is, if an adult did trick-or-treat wouldn’t it be a little weird see them go around to people’s doors begging for candy when they could just go to the store and buy their own candy. As an adult nobody is going to want to trick-or-or treat unless they have small children. Trick-or-treating just stops being fun once you reach a certain age.
My final reason is about the the disabled people. What excludes them from having fun aren’t they people too. I mean if I was crippled and in a wheelchair I would want to have fun too and enjoy halloween. Just because they are different from you or me doesn’t mean that they have to be excluded from enjoying the holidays and just everyday life. They don’t have to sit in a gloomy room while everybody else goes to have fun. So I say that they should still go out to trick-or-treat if they want to and if it is an appropriate age to go to someone’s door and say trick-or-treat, begging for candy.
To conclude I believe that once you are older you are not going to want to trick-or-treat. Second it would be weird to see an adult at a door asking for candy. Third, disabled people shouldn’t be excluded from having fun on halloween. These were my reasons for arguing against Samantha T.
Wyatt D. masenhimer per 5 [green core] oct.27 2014 Rebuttal against jahir
Jahir, I must admit that that you’re argument is very persuasive, but you do have some flaws in it. Thats is why I decided to rebuttal against you
Your first reason is that” Most teens are really immature, which they inflict stuff upon others. What if the teens accidentally kill someone because of stupidity or maybe even worse.Teens like to mess horse around and accidentally do something that they will regret for the rest of their life. Now you see why teens are really immature.’’ Here is why you’re wrong. What type of teenager is going to kill a person? I don't buy the fact that a teen is going to ‘’accidentally’’ Crush a 4 year old.
Your second reason is that’’what if older people want to do harm upon children, now do you see why this is bad?Maybe a old person asks a child “hey, you want some candy i have some in my Van.”Now pedophiles could use halloween as camouflage to lure children.Older people can just steal the candy from children and then maybe do bad stuff to that poor kid.Wyatt now do you see why this bad?’’ Now I must admit that was funny visual, although it is serious,it made me grin a little. But that’s not what we're talking about. The problem is that, obviously, an adult needs to go with kids. If theres not an adult, there probably mature enough to know what's good and what's bad.
Your final reason is that,’’all teens mostly get accused of doing something bad and that is not good, yet that is their reputation.Teens can cause a lot of crimes because they are so energetic, that they can’t help themselves.Teens can be really nice and good, but it all depends on how their parents teach them or what goes on at their house. It’s really sad how the older people stereotype teens, just because they are tall immature doesn’t mean that they can cause trouble. It’s better for the adults to realize that teens are not always bad.’’ Now The final problem in your argument is that,if a group of teens groupes up to be’’super villains’’ Than they will be in deep trouble. They most likely will go to jail or something.
Jahir, these are my three reasons why i'm against your argument. I would like you to join my standing army to let the world know that no age is too old or too young to trick-or-treat.
Wyatt D. masenhimer per 5 [green core] oct.27 2014 Rebuttal against jahir
Jahir,
I must admit that your argument is very persuasive. However, it does have flaws. Here is why I decided to write my rebuttal against your posted argument.
Your first reason is that “most teens are really immature which they inflict stuff upon others….” Here is why I believe you’re wrong. First, I don’t think most teens are immature. Most teens I know are trying to become their best and get into a good college. What type of teenager is going to kill a person? I don't buy the fact that a teen is going to ‘’accidentally’’ crush a 4 year old. If a teen wants to be a kid for a night, what’s the harm?
Your second reason is that ’’what if older people want to do harm upon children…” Obviously, an adult needs to go with kids. If there is not an adult, they probably go with a mature sibling who knows what's good and what's bad. So, if a teen dresses up and takes their younger siblings around, don’t they deserve a treat too? My parents dress up every year and go around with us - they have a lot of fun and no one looks down at them. There are a lot of houses that give the parents treats like coffee and cookies.
Your final reason is that,’’all teens mostly get accused of doing something bad and that is not good, yet that is their reputation….” Again, I don’t think this is true. The bad teens will most likely go to jail or something. Yes, there are a lot that think its ‘not cool’ for their reputation and would rather go to a party or stay at home. I like to create pranks for kids at my door to give them good memories. Still, I would like to be able to go around with my siblings, if I chose to, without being made to feel unwelcome.
Jahir, these are my three reasons why I'm against your argument. I would like you to join my standing army to let the world know that no age is too old or too young to trick-or-treat.
Matthew D. Masenhimer Red Core 4th and 6th 10-27-14 Halloween Debate: Rebuttal Against Jesse F.
Jesse F., I read your argument and it was full of great points, but I must disagree, again. One reason is that most High schoolers around ninth grade are polite and nice. Secondly, parents probably still walk around with the ninth grader and make sure they don’t cause trouble. Finally, at that age, ninth graders start to look away from other holidays.
As I said in the intro, some of the ninth graders are polite and nice. Yes, some kids come out of eighth grade as big bullies, but think about the nice kids. Not all kids are big and man, nor are all of them trying to be jerks to littler kids on Halloween. What about the new eighth graders, the time us seventh graders get to eighth grade, will we become the rudest image of the school? Would you? Mostly, we will just be normal, not really even care about being rude and just have fun.
According to your argument, the parents may think they’re still kids, but that is not true. The age I was aiming for was around 14 in ninth grade. Most parents will still like to take their kids around the neighborhood. They would rather a safe child than a child in harms way. All the parents that follow their children around to trick-or-treat, they make sure nothing bad happens.
Lastly, I understand, I may have exaggerated a teensy bit, but you must understand, ninth graders just start to look away from certain holidays. Here’s something I would’ve said, “I ain't goin’ to name em’ all, but I can honestly say, most of the holidays like Halloween, Christmas, and Easter are pretty much ones that they look away from.” Yes, you’re correct about Valentines day, but really, do thee ninth graders still believe in leprechauns? You must realize, as you grow up, the holidays you loved in your early childhood, look fake by then.
“Trick-or-treating shall not stop in Middle School!” I say, for it is my opinion. All feelings that may have been shattered or hurt from this piece of writing, I will honestly say, I didn’t mean to and sorry if I did. But you must realize, around ninth grade, you will start to pull away from certain holidays. You, hopefully, won’t pick on kids, and be nice. Finally, you parents will most likely want to make sure their kids are safe and behaving properly.
Hailey B. masenhimer (red)core 10/27/2014 Halloween Debate/Rebuttal against Taye
Taye, you have good reasoning against Griffen ,but I still think high schoolers should be able to trick-or-treat. Here are my reasons.
Teenagers aren't going to scare little kids because there parents are with them ,but if you're talking about kids like 12 year olds then isn't that the point of halloween to get scared and get candy? Also yeah teenagers wear inappropriate things because its the only day they can wear it and not get judged.
Trick-or-treating is like relieving stress because you get candy and wear whatever you want. So they will definitely want to do it. I also see many middle schooler that steel candy its not just high schoolers. Why would high schoolers not want to trick-or-treat,its so fun especially with friends!
First of all not all high schoolers break the law its just a few stupid ones that do. If they do break the law its there own problem because they're probably going to jail for wrecking someones property;but again not all teenagers break the law on halloween. Just think would you rather get candy or go to jail?...yeah thats what I thought.
High schoolers should be able to trick-or-treat. Plus its not against the law yet so they should take advantage of it.
Samantha T Masenhimer (RED) 10-27-14 Rebuttal Against Allie V
Allie, while some of your points are agreeable others are not. Everyone of all ages should be allowed to go Trick-or-Treating. Having the holiday be restricted only to kids is something that doesn’t sit well in my mind. You are correct about the fact of little kids being scared by teens and university students, but this age group doesn’t always just hide in bushes and scare children. Yes, the point of Halloween is to dress up and be scary so why take that element away? Besides, parents will probably be with their child and teens/university students will stay away from the parents. Also, not every single bush is infested with a pranking teenager. Younger children would be with their parents and older kids could take the pranks. I mean, just look at how many kids play horror games or FPS’ now! Unless of course the person goes easily into shock or into panic attacks. How is Halloween our last childhood memory? It’s not like we don’t celebrate the other holidays. Also, I have never EVER seen a house be vandalized on Halloween. Egging houses is something I haven’t heard of very recently, and why would they even want to just throw eggs? Not all teens are out to cause mischief as I said in my initial post. Next, teens running around and screaming? Sure sometimes they do it, but little kids tend to do it more as they don’t know any better than to scream. Many teens tend to stay up late for reasons I do not yet know of, but couldn’t you just turn your porch light off or put up a sign that says “Do Not Disturb”? Remember, teens are people too, they need sleep and rest just like us. This is why Trick-or-Treating should not end in 8th grade. It is very harsh to keep teens and young adults from having fun on a holiday just because of their age. One town in the US throws teens in jail for Trick-or-Treating so I’ve heard. Trick-or-Treating is for everyone.
Alliya, you have the correct points. But I still think kids should stop trick-or-treating in freshman year of high school. The parents would only allow their children to wear costumes like that, because the kids are spoiled, or they could be hiding the naughty costume under the appropriate one. It is possible the parents would take them inside of there homes and spoil the small childrens happy day. Not to mention why teens should stop at this age, is because this is the age where teenagers have more attitude than usual. Though it can happen around 7th or 8th grade, it is mostly thee freshman because they are copying their friends. When their parents give them a specific time to come home, they ignore them. That is extremely disrespectful and they need to be aware of their curfew. Also, it is not safe to be out too late. There are many chances that you could get lost, hurt, scared, even kidnapped! Listening to your parents is not a ‘whatever’ thing as you said it was. It is serious. You are able to talk back to them, but it is rude and you could be kept from trick-or-treating with that attitude. Once again, you need to respect your curfew not only to be gracious to your parents, but for your safety. My final argument is freshmen having a fun time frightening little kids. You are right, scarring children can stop at any age, so why not just stop when you are a freshman? On childrens fun time out of there house in their costumes and pillowcases ready to go, I don’t think they would enjoy being terrified. It is dark and scary out. I wouldn’t blame them for crying, they aren’t supposed to be scared, kids are supposed to have an awesome time. Why would you want to ruin it for them? You said that someone can easily scare a child, but you will get in deep trouble by a witness, a parent. That would keep them from scaring the kid. So remember, on Halloween nights, there is no use of scaring children. It scares them and you will get in trouble. You did a good job on your argument, but i still disagree with you. Nice job on your argument!
Griffin, yes some teenagers can be nice and loyal, but most teenagers will not follow the rules of halloween. Teenagers will sometimes not take all the candy, some do not bully kids , and not all will of them will get in trouble, but most will.
Griffin, teens will take all the candy due that there are large numbers of them in newberg and that they have large hands to get more candy.high school students go from 14 to when they graduate and I believe that it stop at the end middle school because many people are in that age group and will take more candy and not enough for the kids. They also have large hands that may take more than smaller ones.
Teens will be nice or mean, but when comes to halloween they will make you scream! Teens will bully kids on halloween to have have fun or enjoyment, or they just are in a hard time and can not control themselves. When you grow you will notice that you will be more impatient and possibly meaner than you were at a younger age and will just cause trouble to see the look on a kids face after it. Being a teenager can also bring stress by being afraid not going to a college so you may express your feelings on other people.
last, some teenagers are good and do not break the law ,but most teeenagers will do bad things. Teenagers will take advantage of halloween and maybe egg houses, toilet paper a house, or will break into houses when no one is around. Teens will just ruin the fun by making you do work and making a mess.
Griffin, yes some teenagers can be nice and loyal, but most teenagers will not follow the rules of Halloween. Teenagers will take all the candy, bully littler kids, and not follow the rules.
Lorelei K. Green core 10/27/2014 Halloween Debate Rebuttal Against Sophie N.
Sophie, you have some good points but I disagree with you. Some kids are crazy in some ways and have a destructive nature no matter how old you are. I also disagree with you on thinking that High School kids are less focused than middle schoolers.
As you know on Halloween night middles schoolers are running around being kids. They have their independence but still need help from their Mom’s. I think in some small way all Kids are crazy. We should have the chance to be wild and Halloween is the perfect night.
As to high school age kids being destructive, I think this is false. High Schooler know better that middle schoolers because they are more mature. They sometimes have jobs and know the value of a dollar. Thinking of this, they are more mature than younger kids.
High school kids may not be as focused as you think but to say they are less focused than a middle schooler is a not true. High schoolers are more mature by far. Sometimes they have their driver licences and that take focus to pass the test. Others have more focus on getting into sports and on varsity.
To conclude I feel that my option on Halloween is perfect. as you know on halloween night middle school are running around being kids.As to high school age kids being destructive, I think this is false. High school kids may not be as focused as you think but to say they are less focused than a middle schooler is a not true. .
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, I love Halloween, we all need to keep the magic alive!
Wyatt you have some good points but I still disagree with you. One thing is that some adults giving out the candy don’t want 6 foot tall kids on their doorstep, it is a little childish, and that most kids getting to high school will probably be bad kids.
Firstly, is that people don’t want 6 foot tall kids on their doorstep asking for candy. Your arguement states,”most kids enjoy Halloween,” but you should be stopping once you aren’t a kid anymore which is starting around the end of middle school. At the end of middle school, kids start to get bigger and start to scare kids. This is one reason why high schoolers shouldn’t be trick-or-treating.
Secondly, trick-or-treating will start to be too childish once you hit high school. You should be trying to grow up rather than acting like kids. Walking around the neighborhood all dressed up in a costume as a high schooler is just plain, childish. This is another reason why teens shouldn’t be trick-or-treating.
Lastly, why teens shouldn’t be trick-or-treating is that most of them are bad. They will be toilet papering people’s houses or egging other people’s houses. These teens will probably also, scaring kids to death because that would be bad. These teens shouldn’t be trick-or-treating because most of them are bad.
High schoolers should not be trick-or-treating. This is why; most of them are bad kids, people don’t want 6 foot kids showing up on your doorstep, and also that trick-or-treating as a high schooler is just childish. High school kids should be handing out the candy on Halloween night, not asking for it.
Lorelei K, you said that "My first reason is that kids never grow out of trick-or treating" I believe that they do, when you are older you become more mature and really don't want to go trick-or-treating anymore. Also you are more likely to wear inappropriate costumes.
When you are in ,middle school you are growing out of trick-or-treating and don't want to go anymore. But when kids do go they are going just for the candy, which does not leave very much candy for the littler kids. You said "they like seeing all the houses decorated up". They are most likely think that that will be a fun house to prank.
When kids get older they wear inappropriate costumes. which makes littler kids think that it is ok for them to wear those kinds of things. It is not ok for them to wear those kinds of things.
The last thing is that i don't think that they are mature, to understand that it is not ok for them to prank some ones house.
Grace P.(green) Rebuttal 10/28 Halloween Debate Grace P. responds to Wyatt D.
Wyatt, High schoolers should not be running around trick-or-treating. I believe that trick-or-treating should stop in eighth grade. My reasons are not all teens behave well, even though high schoolers may enjoy trick-or-treating there are other more age appropriate things they could be doing, and its ok for high schoolers to take their siblings trick-or-treating but they don’t have to go to the door.
In your argument you say “And how can you wear something inappropriate?”And I’m here to tell you how. High schoolers might think it’s fun to wear extremely scary clothing. Their point is to scare children and that makes Halloween not enjoyable for the younger kids. High schoolers may be home alone and their parents could be out of the house for the evening. The parents won’t be monitoring what the kids are wearing out for the night.
High schoolers don’t need to give up the spirit of Halloween. There are other alternatives to trick-or-treating that could be enjoyed. For example, handing out candy at the door of their house or going to a party all dressed up with their friends. There's more to do at Halloween that just trick-or-treating with little kids.
I think it’s great if High schoolers want to take their younger siblings trick-or-treating. They don’t need to get dressed up in scary clothes to do it. They can stand at the sidewalk like the rest of the adults and send their kids to the door to knock.
In closing, I think they are many ways to “help the world” other than having high schoolers dressed up in costumes knocking on doors for candy. High schoolers should not be running around trick-or-treating. Let high schoolers take their younger siblings if needed door to door. They can still get done early enough to enjoy the rest of the night with their friends at a Halloween party.
I think you should stop trick or treating being in high school one reason is because older kids like to show off. Another reason is high school kids can scare and sometimes bully younger kids. this is not OK. Finally Halloween would be safer if older kids did not trick or treating.
The reason is when you go out someone will sneak up on you. that is when they scream. then they run.
Nicole L. (Green) core Arguing with Wyatt. D. Rebuttal
Wyatt, you have some great thoughts, but I disagree with this post. You are disagreeing with Josh B. But I’m rebuttal against your thoughts because in my opinion they are not correct. My first reason is older kids do wear inappropriate costumes. My second reason is kids are not liking halloween because older kids are scaring them so why let them participate. And my last reason is If you think It’s dangerous for kids to be running around alone then they shouldn’t go at all. Here are my three reason’s why I disagree with you.
My first reason why I disagree with your argument to Josh B. is YES older kids and adults do wear inappropriate costumes for halloween. Josh B. means by inappropriate as in scary, Not (PG) for halloween and thats why little kids are sometimes scared of halloween. Older kids and adults are wearing costumes that aren't a good fit for the spirit of halloween. Older teens and adults can wear inappropriate outfits to draw bad attention including your kids.
My second reason why I disagree with this post is Little kids including your kids are being scared away by teens in scary costumes. Teens do this to get an amusement out of scaring little kids. Theres also a certain age when you know it’s time to stop asking for candy from strangers dresses up in a costume. Scaring little kids Isn't an appropriate way to celebrate this holiday. Also kids get a “joy” of scaring little kids.. what’s the point?
My last reason is why go if It’s dangerous? You said in your last post “ It’s dangerous you can get killed”. Then my question is to you why let your teen still go trick-or-treating if there's a chance of being “killed”? Your teen also wouldn't get killed if they didn’t go… so whats the big worry? You can have just as much fun watching a movie with a friend. And if you really want candy that bad then just go buy some at the store.
Wyatt, You have some interesting thoughts, but i disagree with you. TEENS should not be trick-or-treating in high school. My first reason is because they wear inappropriate costumes. My second reason is because teens are ruining the spirit of halloween by scaring little kids with scary costumes. And my last reason why I disagree that you are arguing against Josh is because If so “dangerous” then DON’T let your teen go trick-or-treating in high school.
I understand what you are trying to say Allie but, I very strongly disagree to what you have said. I still believe that kids should stop trick-or-treating in high school.
Saying that kids in high school that all they want to do is egg houses and play pranks on the littler kids is very untrue. I have an older brother and he doesn't want to pull pranks 24\7. I say again that saying that high schoolers only want to play tricks Also if you think of it even little kids like to play tricks on people..
The fact of seeing a bowl of candy on the porch and dumping the whole thing in their bag, is that everybody is capable of this (even you or I). I do believe that if the street is completely dead and no onew is waking up or down it then it is OK.
Even the little kids dress scary. With that being said the little kids saying that only high schoolers dress scary well that is very untrue if you look around on halloween night you can see the little kids running around with scary masks on and they also have scary costumes.
Its not only little kids that like the idea of becoming something different and going out to get candy. High school students do too. ( well at least most of them). Just because a high school student is in a scary costume suddenly he should stop trick-or-treating but when a little kid does it, it suddenly becomes cute?!?!
I say again that I VERY strongly disagree with the point you have made.
Naomi B 10/28/14 Masenhimer ( green core) Rebuttal
I completely agree with the part freshmen, probably want to be like their friends, but some do. Yes they are mature be trick-or-treating so the probably will not scare the little kids . So they might or they might not scare the littler kids just depends on the person.
When their parents give them a specific time to come home, they ignore them. That is extremely disrespectful and they need to be aware of their curfew. Yes is it rude in so many way’s but people do it anyway.
Freshman don't fight little kids and yes they don't enjoy being terrified. The freshman are probably just bored.
While children are trick-or-treating, people do not want to be seeing these young teenagers wearing naughty things .Even though they are not that old some parents allow younger kids wear some very inappropriate stuff. They let the their Younger kid do that because the parents care for their kid but don't care . Yes it very true that the parents do that . Most of the time it is younger parents though that think its funny to dress their kid up in a inappropriate costume, but most of the parents are still very young and haven’t completely grown up yet.
I think kids should stop trick-or-treating in freshman year of high school too so they do get to go one last time before there to old for the holiday ,but you are never to old to go trick-or-treating .
Simon, you have a good argument, however I still think trick-or treating should end in 9th grade. You don’t know that 9th graders have more homework because you not in 9th grade. 9th graders aren’t always scaring little kids. Plus 9th graders like to dress up more than you think.
You don’t know that 9th graders get more homework than any higher grade. Just because you have a brother in 9th grade doesn't mean he knows how much homework there is in all the grades. 9th graders can’t think about homework and scaring kids at the same time anyway. Thier parents will probably notice there staring off into space anyway and will probably yell at them to do their homework.
High schoolers don’t always scare kids. Just because they did when you were in elementary school (which was about two years ago) doesn’t mean they still do now. not all high schoolers scare kids on purpose. Now a days, kids go trick-or-treating in towns and stuff in the areas where there are a bunch of grown ups and police officers.
9th graders do have Halloween spirit and don’t watch little kids dress up and be cute. When you say “they go begging their hearts out for candy” you’re sounding over dramatic because all they do is go up to the door, knock, and say trick-or-treat to get candy. High schoolers dress up more than you think. You have a very good argument but I still think 9th graders deserve one more year of Halloween. They are more mature than you think.
Chantel R Masenhimer(green core) 10/28/14 Rebuttal against Sofia C Rebuttal
Hey sofia I don’t agree with the fact that you think Halloween should end at the ages of 12-13. I’m with Lorelei you should stop at 8th- 9th grade. What is the harm in letting kids in 8th or 9th grade trick-or-treat. They just want to have fun like everyone else. My first reason for believing this is in 8th/9th grade you are still mature enough to know it is a really stupid idea to take a little kids candy. As a teenager the first thing I’m going to do on halloween night is walk up to a cute little kid trick -or-treating; and then I ‘ll take their candy. Because that is realistic according to you and everyone else. So I say that you should be able to trick-or-treat until at least 9th grade. My second reason is that once you reach the 8th-9th grade you then will start to feel more comfortable going out and doing other things on halloween. Also at those ages it starts to look more weird to see a teenager trick-or-treat. You will start to want to go to haunted houses and forests instead. The last reason I have is that you start to not care about dressing up after 8th-9th grade. You would just rather go and hang with friends and laugh and watch a halloween movie or something. I just feel that you should have one last chance to have fun, and go to trick-or-treating before you enter high school. My conclusion is that I'm going to remind you that I believe you should stop trick-or-treating in 8th or 9th grade at the minimum. I believe this because you have then reached an age of maturity where you are smart enough to not steal from smaller children. Then yuo start to want to go to haunted houses and forests instead at this age. Finally you start to not put in the effort to dress up so you might as well stop at that age. These are some of my reasons for believing that you should stop trick-or-treating in 8th/9th grade.
Jahir R green core 10/29/14 rebuttal against Wyatt D
Wyatt, sure it is true that some people actually “get kidnapped, get hurt,or even killed.” I still believe that people should stop trick-or-treating at 8th grade.Wyatt you have great ideas and you convinced me a little.I think that your reasons are too dramatic because how rare does someone get kidnapped or get hurt, it’s a very slim chance of getting kidnapped. My first reason if there at least middle schoolers with their siblings, then kidnappers won't even try to kidnap.Middle schoolers can defend their siblings and might scare people, but they are only middle schoolers that want to have fun.High schoolers on the other hand, wear inappropriate costumes and terrify children.High schoolers want to terrify for pleasure. My second reason is there are good teenagers, but the bad teenagers overrun the good ones which means majority wins.I don’t like how they do this, but that is how life is.The bad teenagers make children comfortable with inappropriate costumes, and children run away scared and might trip and fall, then that is when they get hurt.Children need their own time, just like teens need space so do children. my last reason is when children go trick-or-treating they want enough candy for themselves. When high schoolers go trick-or-treating they take all the candy with their enormous hands, and that is when there is no more candy for the little ones. Most older kids scare and take away candy from the little ones.Teens need to grow up and stop trick-or-treating because they need to know everything about life. Wyatt you have had great ideas, but I still think that people in 8th grade or older should stop trick-or-treating.Your ideas were too dramatic, like I said teens should stop trick-or-treating.If teens want something to do, they should grow up because they are not little kids anymore.I hope I made you realize why teens should stop trick-or-treating at 8th grade or older.
Wyatt, i disagree with you again. first you said “there might be more bad than good;but if some good kids get overruled by the bad”Do you want bad kids running around on the streets scaring people?. Second you said “One thing you have to remember is that these kids have parents” , but not all parents are good.third why do you even bother saying theres good kids if you said halloween is for scaring people that just doesn’t make sense? My first reason is you said “there might be more bad than good;but if some good kids get overruled by the bad”. So do you want a whole bunch of bad kids on the street so that one good kid can Trick-or-Treat too. I dont think we should have a whole bunch of bad kids on the street so a couple of good kids can trick-or-treat. My second reason is you said what do you mean innapropriate “One thing you have to remember is that these kids have parents”. How many parents are good parents that would stop kids from wearing innappropriate clothing. I think that there are more parents that don’t care what you wear than the parents that do. my final reason is that kids don’t need there highschool brother or sister to take them trick-or-treating their parents could take them; and if you have to take your brother or sister you won’t be hanging out with friends so theres a less chance of them getting into trouble. If that brother or sister has to take their littler sibiling then they probably won’t do any tricks they’ll just be walking from door to door and they won’t take candy. So theres no problem there. the only thing i have a problem with is if kids in highschool are dressing up and actually taking candy. So I disagree with you because one theres a lot of bad kids out there and it sounds like you’re willing to have a lot of bad kids out there so a little group of good kids can trick-or-treat. Two is most parents don’t care what there kids wear. So there would be a lot of innapropriate costumes out there. My final reason is that if you dont want to be out on the streets during halloween but you have to take a younger sibiling then you won’t be trying to cause trouble so im fine with that, but other wise high schoolers should not be Trick-or-Treating.
Tori P. Green Core 10/22/14 Halloween Debate: Rebuttal
Although Liam, you have ideas that make sense, there are some things that are needed to be pointed out. Teens are older but are immature. High schoolers may be concentrated on doing their homework, but once they start putting on their skeleton and zombie costumes, they aren’t thinking about the kids that are easily scared. High school is when things are taken to a new level, things that are too scary and inappropriate for younger children and parents.
High schoolers may be older, but that doesn't make them any more mature than middle schoolers. Sure, they get more privileges but we can’t guarantee that they aren’t going to scare children or vandalize something. In middle school, kids still have Halloween spirit and aren’t tempted to do anything that could cause trouble. Once teens get into high school, they tend to become careless. They often think they are too good for trick-or-treating and take advantage of night. High schoolers could also be setting a bad example for children and young teens.
The costumes that older teens wear can be scary and not suitable for children to see, even at my age. I realize that they do this for attention, but scaring little kids for amusement is not okay. Little kids are not expecting to be scared. They are expecting the candy and running around in their costumes yelling, “trick-or-treat!” Halloween is mainly for children, and I don’t want them to stop having fun because someone jumped out at them. The purpose is to have a good time while getting candy and dressing up.
The end of middle school is an appropriate and relevant time to end trick-or-treating. High schoolers are mainly out for trouble, and that could be a problem for us and them. In conclusion, high schoolers should not be trick-or-treating because they often put kids fun in jeopardy and could be too scary and inappropriate for children.
There are many ages for trick-or-treating. You can basically stop when you want but if you go on for too long it might be strange to society.I personally think you stop at the end of grade because typically you don't get into it. You usually just walk with a pillow case asking for candy.
My first reason is because they make costumes that aren't thought out. One thing I find is kids asking for candy as pillow case man and hoodie boy. This is usually around freshmen because they are too cool for costumes. My other reson is they arent very polite, like they expect candy no matter what.
Another reason to stop trick-or-treating in eighth grade is you’re too old. You're in high school and shouldn’t be dressing up and running around with little kids. they want candy that they can't have if you take it where as you can buy enough candy to last a while for ten dollars.
My last reason is you are going to make mistakes. you're going to see that five year old thats too easy to scare, or that one house with rude owner. high schoolers especially make these mistakes.
don't go trick- or- treating after high school, you will make stupid mistakes and you will cause the younger ones to have less candy and you wont have good costumes so don’t go trick-or-treating after high school.
I think you should stop trick or treating being in high school one reason is because older kids like to show off. Another reason is high school kids can scare and sometimes bully younger kids. This is not ok. Finally halloween would be safer if older kids did not trick or treating. The reason is when you go out someone will sneak up on you. That is when they scream. then they will run. The older kids need something to do.

Griffin E. respond to Taye M. 10/28/14 Rebuttal Taye, I agree that teenagers often misbehave, but how often do you see someone ruin Halloween for another person? I believe that teenagers can see that they made a mistake about something that they did and fix it so that it will not happen again. Teens don’t ruin Halloween, they are respectful to kids and adults, and they don’t break the law.
When you look outside you will probably see teens being good, and following the rules of Halloween. And like you said for little kids “they should have their freedom and fun”, except I extend that meaning to the teens too. The only teen that I know might do that is my sister, but she isn’t always the best example. I am being honest when I say this; “I have never seen another teenager misbehave on Halloween”, that is 100% true.
Any teenager that I have seen is nice to the kids and adults, but the adults aren’t always nice to them. If you think about it, adults are actually more rude than teens; it’s pretty much just the fact that adults glare and don’t give candy to teens. Most kids would say, “I don’t think teenagers are very bad, I just don’t want to turn into one”. Those kids are right, what harm has a teenager ever done besides accidentally bumping into little kids.
I have to admit; Taye you are correct that teens sometimes break the law, but never on Halloween. I know that 7 out of 10 teenagers normally break the law, but not all of them do it. Who breaks the law on Halloween? Halloween is a time to be scary, and if you broke the law it wouldn’t only ruin somebody else’s spirit, but also yours.
Taye, you wrote a great paragraph, it was very descriptive and to the point. But I still think that teenagers: don’t ruin Halloween, are nice to adults and children, and they don’t often break the law.
Noah.B(Red Core) argument against Griffin E PM core
Griffin although You're statement is very interesting and true.I Think you have gone on the wrong way on this statement.
I disagree with your age group and these are the reasons why
Also it is true that that you will not get any candy when you grow up but its better than having 14 Year olds walking around and vandalizing and going about setting up pranks. As Im sure that you already know people are not very fond of jokes or pranks. Most grown ups dislike pranks to a high point
my second argument is that it is not a very true that you can't get candy you can buy candy.also if you can't go on easter egg hunts anymore how would it it be logical that you can trick or treating anymore. In addition we know that you're little sibling or relitive will probly end up giving you candy.I mean Im not trying to be a jerk or anything but you and I both know that most little kids are a bit which I mean very greedy. but if you're lucky you may end up having one of those nice little brothers or sisters for a change which means you may have taken no part in this paragraph
high schoolers should not be trick or treating. because it may become a very irresponsible change or event or “crazy mishaps”.
Griffin.E you have persuaded me to believe that people that high schoolers should be able to trick-or-treat and at no point against your argument with taye do I disagree
Alexia I still don’t agree that kids should stop in High school i think kids should stop in Middle school because when you are in High school you are at the age where you want to get into trouble and to you it may not seem like trouble but to others it seems thats all you do is get into trouble.
My first reason is that when you are in High school you can drive which is fun but that means that you can get into more trouble because you can drive around and go to different places and I know I’m being a little
rude but I’ve seen it happen in my grandmas house.
The older kids get I’ve noticed that some kids mature and others don’t. When some kids get out of High school the go to college and others get into get into drugs and bad things like that. The ones who got into the things like to cause trouble, and those are the ones that will be doing most of the pranking.
My third reason is when you are in High school some kids are still in the Halloween spirit, and others are not. The people who are in the spirit of Halloween all they want is some candy but the ones that are not in the spirit they are the ones that do most of the pranking. All I’m saying is i think kids should stop in 8th grade we don’t have to worry

I say that you shouldn’t stop trick-or-treating until you are officially out of high school.

Because of the
way older kids treat younger kids. Or scarring, tricking them, or maybe the way they even dress. But what I am trying to say here is Halloween is the only time kids can dress up, be able to get candy, and hang out with friends. Kids shouldn’t be scared on Halloween they should be able to have fun.

Halloween Debate: Trick-or-Treating Initial Post

I think people should stop doing halloween either at the end of eighth grade or before they start going into high school because high schoolers start wearing appropriate costumes, or bullying little kids and mean to adults. reason One that
people should stop in eighth grade, because when you get in to high school they take it to far.

Halloween Debate: Trick-or-Treating Initial Post

Halloween Debate:Initial Post

Trick-or-treating has been a tradition for decades;but in what age do we have to stop
doing this?I think we should stop trick-or-treating after 8th grade, because once you go to high school that's when bad things happen.
For example at the high school age we do very bad things in Halloween, the pranks can sometimes be very bad and do damage, throwing eggs or T.P(toilet paper) can take a lot of time to clean up
and then consequences come.
Even if we trick-or-treat in 8th grade adults in houses will be like “the heck, you’re too
old for this to be dressed in Halloween and going knocking in other peoples homes just to get candy”you see what i mean.
So when do you think kids should stop trick-or-treating?My belief is we should stop in 8th grade.

I think kids should stop trick-or-treating once they are in high school.

I think kids should stop trick-or-treating at the end of middle school or the beginning of
high school. When you're in 8th grade you might realize that the holiday is for children and you
will probably want to go to parties or other events.
So instead of going trick-or treating you can watch a scary movie with friends or throw a
costume party with friends . So you can leave the trick-or treating for the younger kids . As a
teen or adult, you can still celebrate trick-or treating or Halloween by decorating , dressing up in
costume and by handing out candy. Another way to enjoy Halloween and if you want to help
out, you could take your younger sibling trick-o-treating and maybe some of the people handing
out candy might give you some or if you have a neighbor that has a little kid, you could take
them trick-or treating.
One more reason you might want to stop trick-or-treating is you may be the only one going
trick- or-treating at your age. It much more exciting doing activities with friends and not alone.
One last reason to stop trick-or-treating at the end of middle school or beginning of high school
is that you realize yourself that you might be too old for trick-or-treating and you realize that you
are not a kid anymore.
So I think kids should stop trick-or treating around 8th grade. As you get older and if you love
Halloween, there are many other things to do and still have fun.

Halloween Debate

Jonathan J. respond to Griffin E.

My teacher in second grade said ‘’The reason I trick-or-treated was to scare bad spirits away.’’ Therefore when she went around with a lantern and a pillowcase trick-or-treating,She wasn't in it for the candy, she was in it because of her culture.[she came from the vietnam]
My final reason is that, some of the kids really on their older brothers/sisters. They can’t be running around the neighborhood uncontrollably. Who knows what would happen? They might get hurt, kidnapped, or even killed!

Halloween Debate: Argument Against Liam G.

Halloween Debate

Halloween Debate: Argument against Nikki F.

Halloween debate: argument

Halloween Debate/Responding to Alexi C

Griffen, kids should have fun but after you have got out of middle school you become more allowing to bad stuff, will not enjoy it much, and would have bad choices.

arguing against Nikki F.

Andy R responding to Griffin E
Griffin E, you have really good points however I disagree with you.
And also if we do dress up in high school we mostly think that inappropriate costumes are “The new model.”
Second argument is if we do dress up we wear scary costumes that even scare kids my age!

Halloween Debate: Trick-or-Treating Initial Post

Argument against Lorelei K
10/23/14
Luke E. Green core
Luke E arguing with Wyatt D.
(Green) Naomi B. response to Samantha T.:

Cole T. arguing against Nikki F
Also i don't think that parents would be okay with knowing that their little children are getting scared late at night by teenagers, but most teenagers don't even follow the rules of halloween most of them go around stealing candy or doing other inappropriate pranks to peoples houses
My last reason is that If teenagers are trying to have fun with their friends i don't think that scaring kids is that fun; mostly because the kid getting scared is trying to enjoy the spirit of halloween and getting candy.I get that dressing up scary if kinda the point of halloween but i think you are forgetting about some teens might dress like really inappropriate for halloween, and i do get that halloween is probably the last thing that teenagers do celebrate but that doesn't mean that get to do whatever they want and scare little kids.

Halloween Debate
Argument Against: Lorelei K.

Grace S I do see where you are coming from about stop trick-or-treating when you are in high school, But I strongly disagree with your opinion.

Chris’ arguement against Griffin
Griffin you have some great points, but I disagree with you.

Halloween Debate
Grace P. responded to Wyatt D.
Wyatt ,
I respectfully disagree that everybody should be able to trick-or-treat.

I would.
Nicole L. (green)
Micah H.

Halloween Debate Argument
Justin H. you make a great point, but you are not completely correct.
Allie V.
respond to Nikki F.

So those are the reasons why I think that you are wrong.some teens do believe in the spirit of holidays plus some teens want to hang out at parties and some aren't just in to it that much as when they were kids.

initial post

When Should I Stop Trick-or-Treating?

Your second reason is that’’what if older people want to do harm upon children, now do you see why this is bad?Maybe a old person asks a child “hey, you want some candy i have some in my Van.”Now pedophiles could use halloween as camouflage to lure children.Older people can just steal the candy from children and then maybe do bad stuff to that poor kid.Wyatt now do you see why this bad?’’
Now I must admit that was funny visual, although it is serious,it made me grin a little. But that’s not what we're talking about. The problem is that, obviously, an adult needs to go with kids. If theres not an adult, there probably mature enough to know what's good and what's bad.

Rebuttal against jahir
Jahir,
I must admit that your argument is very persuasive.

Halloween Debate: Rebuttal Against Jesse F.

Halloween Debate/Rebuttal against Taye

Rebuttal Against Allie V

High school kids may not be as focused as you think but to say they are less focused than a middle schooler is a not true. .

rebuttal against Wyatt D.
Sofia C

I completely agree with the part freshmen, probably want to be like their friends, but some do. Yes they are mature be trick-or-treating so the probably will not scare the little kids . So they might or they might not scare the littler kids just depends on the person.

Halloween Debate: Rebuttal

Taye, I agree that teenagers often misbehave, but how often do you see someone ruin Halloween for another person?
