I personally don’t celebrate Halloween , but if i did I would think that people should stop Trick-or-Treating at the end of elementary school. I mean there is always a time when things come to an end and Trick- or- Treating is one of them. My first reason why is that, Trick- or- Treating is pretty childish . All you do is go door to door begging for candy. You should just go to the store and buy some candy with your own money , like the people who give you the candy on Halloween . Also , after Halloween the candy always goes on sale ,so you can buy as much as you want then. You should just let the younger kids go out, and have fun Trick- or - treating before they grow up too. My other concern is that older kids like to wear revealing and inappropriate costumes . Kids only do Halloween to get candy and wear a cool costume. Halloween is not for people to wear revealing and inappropriate costumes. Also it is disgusting and no one want’s to see that stuff. All kids should do is just to have fun wearing cool costumes. Lastly , teenagers like to prank other people and make people uncomfortable. They like to egg people’s houses and put toilet paper on their trees. Parents or adults have to deal with people vandalizing their homes and not cleaning it up. If there was a age limit , none of this would happen. Older kids should just get the fact that celebrating Halloween does come to an end , and their gonna have to accept it. I personally don’t celebrate Halloween , but if I did I would think that people should stop Trick- or-Treating at the end of elementary school. That will make people grow up and not have to wear inappropriate costumes , and not to vandalize people’s houses if that were to happen.
Halloween Debate By Mackenzie R. Mr. Masenhimer Green Core 10/21/13
I celebrate halloween every year with my family because we go trick-or-treating with each other.I am now 12 years old and I think you should stop trick-or-treating at the end of Elementary School.
When you reach the start of your first middle school year you start to reach an age where you are more major, but sometimes in middle school you start to learn inappropriate stuff and you decide to wear really bad costumes. Then when you get to other peoples houses to go trick-or-treating they take one look at you like that costume is really inappropriate. Why are you wearing it? Once they tell you they don’t like your costume and they aren’t giving you any candy anymore that should give you a hint saying you should stop trick-or-treating.
Another concern of mine is scaring the children. If you wear inappropriate costumes to other peoples houses and they have young children they might not even know what it is but they might say that they like the costume and want to wear it for halloween.Once you teach little kids bad stuff they start going around and teaching other little kids and it will never stop unless there is a certain age you should stop.Kids should not start learning that stuff at an early age because they are just way too young to understand that stuff at an early age.
My last concern is people destroying other peoples properties. When older kids get really mad because the person didn’t give them any candy so they start toilet papering peoples houses, throwing rocks, destroying their yard anything they can think of they will do. High school kids know more stuff so they can do more stuff to ruin other peoples properties and that won’t be nice to do just because someone won’t give you any candy that’s just harsh and really rude. So some middle schoolers choose not to be responsible so they will do really bad stuff to other peoples properties.
In conclusion, I think that you should stop trick-or-treating after 5th grade, because you become more major, wear inappropriate costumes, and scaring the children.
Halloween trick–or-treating should stop after elementary school.
Kids should stop trick-or-treating during the transition from elementary to middle school. During this transition kids should stop the old tradition of trick-or-treating and begin the new tradition of handing out candy to the younger generation. In middle school kids start to go out of their way to have scary costumes which can intimidate little kids. Teens, while trick-or-treating, can get in the way of little kids having fun. Middle schoolers can find better ways to spend their time than walking around in the cold asking for cheap candy.
At the end of elementary kids should stop trick-or-treating because they can become teenagers that can get in the way of little kids fun. Teenagers can be disrespectful by taking a lot of candy so when it is time for the little kids to get their treats there is none left. Grown ups can get offended when teenagers come and take candy that is meant for littler kids. Families that are trick-or-treating can find it really rude when middle schoolers are messing around when they are just trying to have some family fun.
In middle school is when teenagers start to intimate others with their scary costumes. Little kids have a harder time understanding what is real and what is not. To a middle schooler, a scary mask might be a funny joke but to a little kid it may ruin their Halloween. With some of the even littler kids, when they get scared they start to cry and then everyone has a miserable time. Is walking around in a scary costume on Halloween night really worth ruining others’ holiday?
When you become a middle schooler you start to realize that there are better ways to use your time than walking around asking people for candy. Middle schoolers may find that they have other priorities that they have to do on Halloween night. I personally want to spend my Halloween hanging with my friends rather than trick-or-treating out in the cold. Middle school is a good time to start handing out candy to the younger generation as the older generation did to you. Besides, you don’t have to ask people for candy to get treats. You could go and buy some yourself.
At the end of elementary school is a great time to start thinking about how your trick-or-treating will affect others. If you stop trick-or-treating then you don’t have to worry about ruining little kids time and you can spend your own time better. You may find that you prefer to have a Halloween party on Halloween night or hand out candy instead of being disrespectful to little trick-or-treaters and their families.

I love halloween and I love to go trick-or-treating but there has to be a time where we just have to stop. I think that when it comes to halloween retirement that the age between 14 and 15 is just the right time to stop.
My first reason is that by the time you are 12 everything seems to be destructive and fun. Plus when you start middle school all these new things pop up new friends, new ideas, new fun, new classes, fun classes, more homework and the list goes on and on. When you get out of middle school and into high school then you should stop trick-or-treating because all these weird, in your opinion hysterical, and out of this world ideas. I give them just a little time into the high school year to join back up with their friends and new friends to go on giant last trick-or-treating party!
The way I th9ink is that I do not want to have little kids like 7 years old having their hearts broken. Then after two weeks of their thought of master planning to get revenge on that specific high schooler, they get caught trying to break out of school early or trying to invade his house with his friends. I do not think that will end up well for all of us. I do not want a bunch of angry parents yelling and screaming at each other defending their kids while the 7 year old and his friends are crying in the corner or still hunting the high schooler.
The final conclusion that I have is when you get into high school you have bigger hands and can grab more candy when the parents might not notice and when they do the high schooler still just might take it. Then when that happens you have these angry moms on the phone telling them not to give candy to people. So if you do not want people to be angry and frustrated all around the neighborhood.
I think that after trick-or-treaty almost all my life that I still want to trick-or-treat and I am sure that many others my age want and can keep on doing it!
I like your opinion, but I disagree with you. Yes we do have a point in life when we all have to stop but I don’t think that’s at the end of elementary school, and I know you don’t go trick-or-treating but other kids still do.
My first argument is that yes we do have a point where some teens do start wearing some disturbing costumes and inappropriate, but thats not till like high school. Also you said that there is vandalism but I never hear about that. When you're in elementary school you do probably have to have someone take you but even when you're in middle school I don’t think you have to. My point is I think elementary school is too young.
My other argument is I don’t think halloween is childish. Halloween is the only day you get to dress up scary and wacky and crazy and its just having fun with your friends and going out with them and just having a great time. Also yes you could by your own candy at the store, but it isn't as fun as going out at night and going door to door getting free candy!
Another disagreement is you said that some teens like to make other children uncomfortable as in bullying. I think if someone did that they easily get caught by the childrens parents, and if their bullying a teenager i'm not saying they should fight back i’m saying they should cool down and walk away and go back to their night.
My conclusion is that elementary school is too young. My limit is middle school, also I really do think your opinion is awesome I just disagree. With that being said I think its too young.
Aleyah, I like your reasons but some I don’t agree with. I do though agree that people do start to wear inappropriate costumes and need to buy their own candy. Yes we should let the kids have halloween, but I disagree with how there can’t be teens celebrating Halloween at each others’ houses. Like costume parties.
My first concern is I think that kids should be able trick-or-treat but, I disagree because you are really still a kid till 13 or 14; then you are a teenager. But if you need to go trick-or-treating with your little sibling, I think you should be able to take them. Uncostumed or costumed. If you are above 14 then just go with clothes on and don’t ask for candy, just take your little brother or sister.
My second concern is I agree that teens sometimes wear inappropriate and scary costumes. Showing to much and blinding kids or scary costumes and scaring kids. But I disagree that kids should be able to wear un-childish costumes if they’re of age.
My final one is I disagree that pranking little kids is ok. But if they are pranking family members or friends as a joke, then that is fine. But when they do it to strangers for the fun of it that is just wrong. When little kids cry and never want to trick-or-treat again then you need a life. Scaring kids for fun to see them cry to their mommy is not a life. Having friends and doing fun, but not mean stuff is a life.
So I agree with how you shouldn’t prank strangers, scare kids, and wear gross costumes. But I disagree if it is a friend or family prank, that’s fine. If you are gonna buy your own candy go ahead. But I totally disagree that the end of elementary school. It is way too early. 13 or 14 is the perfect age.
jonathan g green core p2 argument against aleyah green core p2 10-22-13 I do celebrate halloween, but I think that aleyah your idea of kids to stop at the end of elementary school is weird because some people might have a different religion that tells them to do certain things like for example the age to stop trick- or-treating. Yes after halloween there are sale’s on candy, but it would be a lot better to get it for free. And also they can keep on trick-or-treating in their future lives if they would like to. But not all of the big kids have a messed up brain and were a disturbing costume,And also not all of the older kids will just keep on going door to door pranking the other kids, and some will sometimes do the right thing and not just grab a big handful and live almost nothing for the little kids. If some people that have had that happen to them then if they were smart enough then they should just put cameras on their property to catch anyone that has done it to them. Also another thing that they could do if they were smart enough is to get a couple of dogs. After reading my argument you will now need to change your mind.
You make some good points but i completely disagree that kids should stop after elementary school You said that teens take more candy so the younger kids don't get any. I disagree with this because 90% of people handing out candy hand them out, instead of letting you choose. Its the person that is handing out candies fault if there's not enough candy to go around. They should be prepared for the amount of kids wanting candy.
You said that middle schoolers wear scary costumes and can scare the younger generation. I disagree with this because most elementary schoolers know what's real and what's fake. And most middle schoolers don't where intimidating or scary costumes. Being in a scary costume is all in the spirit of halloween.
I believe that sometimes there's better things to do than trick-or-treat. but i think being twelve and going to a halloween party is weird. Middle school is the last few years that you actually get to celebrate halloween the right way. I think you should be at least a high schooler to go to a halloween party. as for hanging out with friends trick or treating is the perfect time for that
In conclusion it is not disrespectful to trick or treat when you're a middle schooler. Wouldn't you rather receive candy than to just give it away? It is very rare that a middle schooler will ruin a little kids day.
Mackenzie, you make valid points, but I disagree. Kids in middle school aren't yet teens, but they aren't children either. So stopping Trick-Or-Treating in elementary school can be hard on a childhood. Also people in middle school should be mature enough to not destroy and vandalize other people’s property. Finely kids in middle school don't have as much desire to wear inappropriate and scary costumes.
Kids in middle school are in the middle of transitioning from kids to teens. Not allowing them to Trick-Or-Treat can be hard on that transition. They could either grow up too fast, or not grow up fast enough. Trick-Or-Treating is a tradition in many families homes and I think that if you don't continue the tradition, and tell your children the are not allowed to Trick-Or-Treat after elementary the occasion could end altogether.
People in middle school should be mature enough to not vandalize peoples properties. Why would someone get joy out of destroying things? Kids in middle school are responsible enough to know the right thing to do. Would you want to destroy, ruin, and vandalize a persons objects? Most people should know the right thing to do and not be disrespectful.
I don’t think kids in middle school want to wear inappropriate costumes as much as high schoolers. Also I don't think that costumes teach children about inappropriate things. If a parent and child saw something scary, or inappropriate the parent needs, and probably will talk to the child about it. Kids in middle school don't wear as revealing or scary costumes as teens in High School.
Kids in elementary school should continue with the tradition because it can be ruining to a childhood. They won't destroy property, and they don't wear very scary or inappropriate costumes. I say keep the tradition until they are fourteen.
Mackenzie, your idea of stopping trick-or-treating around the end of elementary school
not persuasive.
when you get into middle school, your imagination expands and starts thinking of new and more scarier costumes for Halloween, but that is one of the main points of Halloween, and if you do think of an idea that is inappropriate, then why wear it if your family and friends are going to see it,along witckenzieh the countless trick-or-treaters?Halloween is about trick-or-treating and dressing up in something scary, not something inappropriate(if it has blood and gore, that is scary,no?).
Like I said before,Halloween is ALL about scary. If a kid is scared by you, then either keep going on your way,or tell him or her that it is just a costume for Halloween.I was always impressed and scared of the high school teens costumes,so I started doing it too, along with all my friends, and the neighborhood.Listen,it’s the way of life in Halloween to get scarier costumes every year, otherwise Halloween wouldn't be scary.(which it is because of the Halloween way of life).
Okay,I understand how this could be very bad,but most of the time, this happens in movies. From high school teens. How can whoever is destroying that person's house NOT be seen from the countless people trick-or-treating?you're probably thinking,”well, they go in the middle of the night, when no one is around”well, the people owning the house are probably inside, most likely eating the candy they got.In my neighborhood, the last time someone trashed someone’s house during Halloween was last Halloween, but it was because of a huge party, and I mean huge.
Honestly,I don’t really care when a person stops trick-or-treating,whether it is around the end of elementary school or the beginning of middle school, but if it had to become a law,and we could vote,I wouldn't vote for stopping trick-or-treating around elementary school.
Ashley M. Masenhimer/ Red Core Argument against Aleyah W.
Aleyah I believe that you are wrong by saying that children at the end of elementary school should stop trick-or-treating. You say that kids should stop trick-or-treating at the end of elementary school, because it is childish, but if children stop then who will go trick-or-treating then? You also said that children older than elementary school students are wearing inappropriate and frightening costumes, most children in middle school have parents who are not allowing them to get those types of costumes, and even if they had those types of costumes, it is only for a few years more. Finally you said that kids older than elementary school students are egging and toilet papering ones home. If that were to happen it has nothing to do with the fact that it is Halloween, vandalism is caught by many people all year round, so why would children at the elementary school age have to stop? Why can't people just let children have a little more fun as they are growing up?
Aleyah, you say that children should stop trick-or-treating at the end of elementary school. Elementary school students basically make up about 70% of the trick-or-treaters. If people were to stop them, then who would even go trick-or-treating. Elementary school students have a fun and enjoyable time trick-or-treating throughout their whole life in school, so why can't they have a little more fun? You also brought up another point and said it was pretty childish. I just have to say we are all still children in middle school and elementary school so if it is childish then why do children have to stop when they are still in elementary school, and still a child?
That leads me to my next point. You also brought up that children older than elementary school are wearing frightening and inappropriate costumes. A lot of parents are aware of what their childrens costumes look like and do not allow them to wear anything nude or frightening. The parent may also go out with their children and that will mean that the children, will not have anything like that on around there guardians. Even if a child is seen in any thing like those you brought up, it is only for one night. It is that childs fault for picking the wrong costume, and it's their reputation that they’re representing, not the whole towns. Although some children are dressing in those types of costumes, it is only for 1 night , and only for 4 hours. People should just let children live a little, and have fun while they’re still kids.
Your final reason is that children older than elementary school students are egging and toilet papering ones house. I have to say Aleyah, that that happens all year round. Children everywhere in the world are toilet papering and egging someone's home, it happens every day, not just on Halloween. Aswell as it happens more than just on Halloween, toilet papering and egging a persons house has nothing to do with the fact that it is Halloween. Halloween is a mischievous holiday where in some cases children do that sort of stuff, but it is not just that special night that it happens. Kids can be very sneaky and do that kind of stuff on Halloween, but it happens everywhere too. I believe that children at the end of elementary school should continue trick-or-treating.
Aleyah your arguments to me, were invalid and not persuading. I know that children do wear nude and frightening costumes, but it's their reputation, not yours. Also, you say that it is childish. If children were to stop at the end of elementary school while they are still children, then how could you say that it is childish? And lastly you pointed out that children older than elementary school students have been toilet papering and egging ones home, but that has nothing to do with the fact that it is Halloween. Aleyah, I personally think that your arguments were invalid, and I think that children should be able to trick-or-treat throughout their elementary and middle school age as well.
Your Ideas are good but I disagree.First of all, Elementary schoolers are only 11-12 years of age so there still young so I don’t think they're going to think “Trick or Treating” is childish because they themselves are children just like you and me. Second you get candy for free so who wouldn't want to go “Trick or Treating”,well people who don't like candy of course but thats not the point the point is that I don't think many people don't want to stop going “Trick or Treating”. Also, some people don't always have enough money to buy candy even if its on sale. In addition, most people don't wear Revealing and inappropriate costumes. Also, most of the time cool costumes are really expensive and as I said earlier some people don't have enough money to buy the costumes unless they make it. Lastly people usually don't vandalise peoples property as a prank they do that because they don't like that person or somthing like that but if they do vandalized someones property they get in big trouble or get thrown in juvenile hall. you make good points but I disagree with your Ideas of stopping “trick or treating” at elementary school my first reason is that elementary schoolers are very young and you think ‘Trick or Treating” is childish ,my second reason is that some people don't have enough money to buy candy, and my third reason is that people don't usually vandalise peoples property. those are the reason why I think “Trick or Treating” should end in elementary school.
Aleyah you have some very true statements, but I have to disagree with you. At the end of elementary school kids are still kids and need to have fun. Kids out of elementary are still young and usually mean no harm. Plus the kids really don’t think about going out and buying candy because trick-or-treating is way more fun. They think that halloween is just kids going out in costumes for candy.
At the end of elementary kids are still kids, and enjoy the fun of going out and getting free candy every year. They need to experience the fun before the huge essays and project happen. At the young age things start to fade you find out that the characters that your parents tell you about aren’t real. The long their childhoods are the better. If they are happy everyone is happy. No one should have all the fun fade away.
During the end of middle school the kids don’t real think about scaring kids because they are normally still scared. They may be young and not thinking, but normally they are smart enough not to scare anyone. When the time comes they are usually planning how to get the most candy. The younger the better I understand but they need to have some fun. They are very wild and crazy but they know if they do something wrong they are going to get in some trouble. Most kids know if you hurt or scare someone you will get in trouble.
Lastly why would someone go bye candy instead of dressing up and going around getting free candy. Thats like to stop getting christmas presents to go out and buy them. kids think it is fun to dress up as whatever they want and go around to get candy. Young children spend days picking out want they are going to be. They get to use their imagination. Usually if they are younger their parents won’t let them out of the house wearing anything without their approval.
Aleyha you had very good ideas that were hard to argue about but i do disagree. Kids need the full joy of being a kid before they grow up. The kids that are out of elementary mean no harm they still think of halloween and dressing up for candy. They normally don’t think of going out to buy candy instead of trick-or-treating. Godd ideas i just disagree.
Your reasoning to why people should stop trick-or-treating is good, but I disagree. I believe that the end of middle school is the appropriate time to stop. Most middle school kids are most likely not going to dress inappropriately, destroy other peoples property, and scare other little children.
Middle school people aren’t going to dress inappropriately. Their parents will most likely not going to let them dress like that. Secondly, a small amount of middle school kids don’t even dress up when they go trick-or-treating. They just go door to door without any costume asking for candy. They aren’t looking to dress inappropriately they just want to have fun and candy.
I have seen kids toilet-papering peoples houses in the movies but I have never heard of it actually happening. Kids trying to damage people's property is against the law and most people aren't looking for trouble on Halloween night. I disagree that people actually destroy people's property.Even if middle schoolers or high schoolers do destroy peoples houses, its likely that they will get caught.
Scaring young children should not be a concern. The young children are (hopefully) with their parents on Halloween night. The older kids won't bother them if they are with their parents. Like I said before, kids aren’t looking to get in trouble they just want their candy. little kids getting scared by older kids is probably not going to happen.
You had great reasoning to why you believe children should stop trick or treating at the end of elementary school. I think that little kids aren’t going to get scared by older kids, people aren’t going to destroy peoples property, and children are most likely not going to dress inappropriately.
Kloie L. Mr.Masenhimer Green Core 10-22-13 Argument against Aleyah W.
Aleyah W, I think your reasons were great, but frankly I have to disagree with you. I do not think you should stop trick-or-treating at the end of elementary school. A lot of people still are trick-or-treating even in middle school. In fact me and a group of my friends went trick-or-treating last year. We were even planning on going this year and next year.
One reason why I disagree that you is because, a lot of people still like trick-or-treating and judging on how many middle schoolers and high schoolers there were last year, I’m guessing that they agree with me also.Halloween is a Holiday when you not only “dress up in a costume”, but to have fun with your friends and get candy. I understand your worry on vandalism and inappropriate or overly scary outfits, but not all people older than 11 years old are like that. In fact last Halloween I did not see anyone in any sort of bad or horrifying costumes at all, no one had done any sort of vandalism in any why.
Secondly, I disagree with you because right away people don’t go off wrecking people’s proportie. Also emerging 6th,7th,or 8th graders only hope for the fun and entertainment of Halloween. Not looking for trouble or trying to horrify the innocent little children, whom are looking for the candy that lies awaiting for them at every door. I know you do not celebrate Halloween, but like Christmas or Thanksgiving, or any other holiday that you celebrate with joy in your heart.
Lastly, I disagree with you because I have celebrated Halloween since I was about 5 years old and to this day I enjoy it. Halloween is not all about taking candy but also about hanging out with your family. When I was in 5th grade I went trick-or-treating with my family, and I am planning on doing it again in 8th grade to.You can celebrate it like any other Holiday. It gains respect like any other.
In conclusion I think you should celebrate Halloween until high school. I think if you celebrated Halloween then you might change your mind. Because for some people Halloween in just a time to let loose and have fun!
Aleyah, I don't want to be rude but I disagree.First of all, Elementary 5th graders are only 11-12 years old so there still young, also I don’t think they're going want to stop “Trick or Treating” because it is childish because they themselves are still children just like you and me. Second you get candy for free so who wouldn't want to go “Trick or Treating”,well people who don't like candy of course but thats not the point the point is that I don't think many people want to stop going “Trick or Treating” just because its childish. Also, some people may not have enough money to buy candy even if its on sale. In addition, There aren't any parents buying their kids Revealing and inappropriate costumes just because its halloween and its dark so people don't know who they are. Also, most of the time cool costumes are really expensive and as I said earlier some people don't have enough money to buy candy or costumes. Lastly people usually don't vandalise peoples property as a prank they do that because they don't like that person also most kids don't do that, but if they do vandalized someones property they get in big trouble or get thrown in juvenile hall. you make good points but I disagree with your Ideas of stopping “trick or treating” at elementary school my first reason is that elementary schoolers are young also most children at that age think ‘Trick or Treating” isn't childish, my second reason is that some people don't have enough money to buy candy, and my third reason is that people don't usually vandalise peoples property. those are the reason why I think “Trick or Treating” should end in elementary school.
Bailey Sherwood RED Core Rebuttal against Dawson W
Dawson had some pretty good arguments but I still think trick-or-treating should stop after elementary school.Teens mite not to mean to cos harm, but they may interfeer with little trick-or-treaters Halloween. Middle school trick-or-treaters can scare people and not leave candy for the younger generation. It might be fun to walk around in the cold asking people for cheap candy when you are young but now that you are older don't you want to do something else? You pointed out that often time adults can prevent teenagers from taking more candy than needed. But often middle schoolers can be the cause of houses running out of candy. The problem is not that one person is taking more candy that they're supposed to but that a big number of people that are too old to even be trick-or-treating in the first place are taking a normal amount of candy . If you do the math this equals not enough candy for everybody else. Additionally I have seen middle schoolers trick or take advantage of people handing out candy.
You said the spirit of Halloween is to be scary but I think the spirit of Halloween is to have fun and sometimes scary costumes can ruin little kids fun. We all have different opinions on what is scary and what is not. For middle schoolers some of our costumes may be fun but for younger kids they are not. Imagine yourself as a little 5 year old and it is dark outside and you see a big teenager in a frightening costume. You would get scared and start to cry. Your parents would have to take you home ending your fun Halloween experience right then and there.
There are a lot of fun ways to spend your time on Halloween night other than walking around in the cold. Dawson said that it would be weird to be a middle schooler and go to a Halloween party. There is nothing weird about going to a Halloween party to hang out with your friends in cool costumes. Some kids may prefer to stay at home with their families and hand out candy. If scary stuff is your thing then maybe you would like to watch a horror movie instead.
You can have fun in many different ways on Halloween and leave the trick-or-treating to the little kids. Why have the younger generation be scared on Halloween and not get enough candy when you can simply not trick-or-treat. Going door to door on Halloween can make you look selfish, immature and disrespectful if you are a teenager. Choose a better activity and have a happy Halloween.
Aleyah, I understand your reasons but some I don’t agree with. I think that elementary is way too early. You said trick-or-treating is kind of childish. Yes, letting kids trick-or-treat is the main idea, but I why can’t there be teens celebrating Halloween at each others’ houses? Like costume parties… My first concern is I disagree with stopping in elementary school because, you are really still a kid till thirteen or fourteen. Then you are a teenager. You say all things come to an end, but what if you need to go trick-or-treating with your little sibling? I think you should be able to take them. Uncostumed or costumed, happy or mad. Get what I’m saying? My second concern is I too think that teens sometimes wear inappropriate and scary costumes. Showing to much and blinding kids or scary costumes and scaring kids. But why can’t kids be able to wear un-childish costumes if they’re of age? You say that no one wants to see that stuff. Like not the longest shorts, or certain costumes? My final one is that pranking little kids is not ok. But if they are pranking family members or friends as a joke, then they should totally be able too. Right? When little kids cry and never want to trick-or-treat again then you need a life. Because that’s mean. So I think pranking is not ok unless, if it is a friend or family prank. That’s sounds perfectly fine to me. If you are gonna buy your own candy go ahead. But I totally think that the end of elementary school, is way too early. Fourteen-fifteen is the perfect age. Which is ninth-tenth grade.
You have great ideas but i believe that trick-or-treating should stop at the age of 14.Kids have fun but in middle school we still are kids.
My first reason is lots of middle schoolers think its boring to hand out candy and want to have some fun.Halloween is all about scaring thats why theres scary places during halloween.Like haunted houses and scary decorations and witches and goblins all come out at this time of year.Halloween is the only holiday for scaring.I do agree about high schoolers going pass the limit they just care about themselves.
Another reason is some parents won't let there kids have parties and handing out candy is totally boring so we want to have some fun looking like idiots for once.Running around at dark looking like idiots and scarring is what halloween is about.Parents are too strict and many don't like the cluster feeling or the thought of having so many people in their home.Parents just want to relax on halloween and have you leave and bring them candy when you're done so they eat it all night.
plus another reason is middle schoolers will not cross the line and middle schoolers usually go trick or treating later at night instead of early. Many high schoolers would but middle schoolers have sense to let them go first then themselves.High schoolers maybe not because its free stuff and it could be there last year.middle schoolers do want candy just not as bad as high schoolers.
Kids love halloween and it should end after middle school not elementary.Kids only have one childhood and they want to live not pass out candy in middle school.High school is the time to pass out candy and be mature.A lot of parents don't let them have halloween parties.Middle schoolers know when not to cross the line and let little kids have candy but want to run around still.
Mackenzie R. Rebuttal Against Hadley T. Green Core 10/28/13
Hadley you have some really good points but I still think that you should stop trick-or-treating after trick-or-treating. First, you’re right not a lot of middle schoolers want to dress inappropriately but there are a lot of really bad kids as well. Sure some middle schoolers are mature but some aren’t. Some peoples parents don’t really care about what they wear because they are saying in their heads I don’t care what they wear on their own bodies because if they want to be that kind of bad person let them as in other parents will say out loud “ hey I don’t like that costume it’s a really bad costume and you will be cold go change”. Not a lot of people mature over the years that they grow up. Another reason, sure most of the vandalism on people’s houses most likely only happen on movies. Sometimes in reality you have to think of this there are a lot of bad kids and some of them think it is funny to destroy people’s houses. Some people actually experienced people destroying other people’s houses because the next day it was wrecked and it wasn’t because of the owners it is because of the kids. Almost all the time the lawns are wrecked because of halloween parties, but when I walk outside and see all of the yards wrecked and I know that none of my neighbors had a party because I would have seen people going to their houses with costumes and it would probably be loud and noisy. The last thing I want to talk about is teens scaring younger kids. You’re right most kids are with their parents but some parents ask their older kids to go trick-or-treating with their younger kids. The teens wearing inappropriate costumes only care about the kids parents they don’t care about the older sister and brother because the parents can talk to the teens parents but the kid wouldn’t think of doing that. So when I said you are right i meant that they aren’t always with their parents. In conclusion, I think you should stop trick-or-treating after fifth grade because vandalism, bad costumes, and scaring little kids.
Jonathan I get what you mean ,but your information is invalid. First of all what you wrote doesn’t really make any sense . Yes some people do not do some things like trick-or -treating because of their religion , But that may not just be the case. Maybe they are just too old for it. First of all , I know that the candy is free on Halloween but , older kids should just be responsible and let the younger kids get the candy. They should just let them enjoy this holiday before the get to old to stop Trick-or-Treating. You should just buy the candy when it goes on sale after Halloween . I know that some teenagers don’t like to do pranks, but the minority does. They get into bad habits from their older brothers or sisters and then they think that they have to do the same. If you have an age limit for Halloween none of this would happen. Also older kids do like to wear inappropriate costumes ,and younger kids do not need to see that. Last thing is that , why would people buy dogs or a camera just to keep the prankers away. They shouldn’t have to do that if there was an age limit for Halloween. I mean Halloween is not for people to be rude to people ,It is for little kids to have fun collecting candy and wearing a fun costumes. Even though I don’t celebrate Halloween , I would think that you should just stop Trick-or-Treating at the end of elementary school because of many reasons. You just have to grow out of it, like you did with santa and all of the other made up things .
Mackenzie you have good reasons, but I disagree with you. How often have you seen a middle school kid dressed in inappropriate costumes? Teens are usually the ones that enjoy scaring kids, and middle school kids don’t really destroy property. Yes, when you get into middle school people think its funny to pass around bad humor. All the inappropriate costumes I have every seen are on teens, not middle school kids. Adults complain about teens dressing up and bothering them but not 13-14 year olds. I know some adults thought I was to old to trick-or-treat when I was 10-11, one man even told me shame. Some adults willn’t give you candy but that’s their problem, because they have their opinions and everyone else has theirs. Inappropriate costumes are bad influences on kids, I agree, but I think kids should stop trick-or-treating at the end of middle school not in high school. Middle schoolers try to be humorous not scary or inappropriate. Teens often give kids bad ideas, and then the parent gets mad. Kids might say they like something but they always have one costume a year, and its almost always classic or simple, not inappropriate. Teens have tempers, I live with one. When a person turns down a teen it can end with eggs or toilet paper, but often times middle schoolers don’t. Middle schoolers see teens do that but they willn’t copy it, they still have respect. Teens will get mad, and destroy yards while being watched so they usually end up cleaning it up. I think kids should stop trick-or-treating at the end of middle school because they will try to be humorous not inappropriate. Also because they don’t respond badly when they don’t get candy, and they don’t scare kids.
I very much disagree with you because you think that people should stop when they are 21;seriously? that is way too old.How would it look if someone in collage asked you for candy they should have partys and not live like a little kid.there probraly already out of the house.that is why I think that people should stop at the end of elementary.
I see that you say that their technically an adult they should be having parties or go to scary movies or purchase candy for themselves they are just too old to be going door to door.they might also do bad things like vandalizing and disturbing the peace or molesting little kids and bothering them they can egg peoples houses or they can toilet paper the houses.I don’t think that 21 year old people are quite mature enough because they can be jerks and they can be in gangs.
in conclusion it is not that you're wrong but I just don’t think that people should stop when they are 21 years old. That is why I think people should stop when they are at the end of elementary school, because they have 6 years to do halloween and I think that is a lot of time to act like a kid.I hope that you are not offended so bye have a great day!

Rebuttal against Aleyah W.
Grace S. Green Core Rebuttal against Aleyah W.

I do celebrate halloween, but I think that aleyah your idea of kids to stop at the end of elementary school is weird because some people might have a different religion that tells them to do certain things like for example the age to stop trick- or-treating.

Response to Bailey s. post
You make some good points but i completely disagree that kids should stop after elementary school
You said that teens take more candy so the younger kids don't get any.

Argument against Aleyah W.

Argument -Aleyah W
Hadley T. Rebuttal against MacKenzie R.

Argument against Aleyah W.

Rebuttal against Dawson W
Grace S. Green Core Rebuttal against Aleyah W.
Aleyah, I understand your reasons but some I don’t agree with. I think that elementary is way too early. You said trick-or-treating is kind of childish. Yes, letting kids trick-or-treat is the main idea, but I why can’t there be teens celebrating Halloween at each others’ houses? Like costume parties…
My first concern is I disagree with stopping in elementary school because, you are really still a kid till thirteen or fourteen.
Austin E
argument against baily S

Rebuttal against Mackenzie R.
