I believe that people should stop trick-or-treating right after high school because most people get jobs or go to college right after high school. Once they’re at college they’re going to be working on homework or just hanging out with friends and not trick-or-treating. If they have a job they can buy their own candy. I don’t think there's ever going to be an age where people stop dressing up for Halloween.
When they’re in college they’re going to be having parties. Even in college I believe you can still dress up because the Halloween parties that are going to be going on. I would encourage people to dress up in college to keep young. Just because you’re in college doesn't mean you have to be totally grown up. You can’t go to a college Halloween party without a costume.
Once you are out of high school and get a job I think it’s time to stop trick or treating. Since you have a job you can buy your own candy and not take the candy that could be going to little kids that don't money. On that note I still think you should you should find a costume because most adults still dress up and have parties. The parties would be no fun without a costume. So when you’re an adult don’t go trick-or-treating. But I personally believe that dressing up for costumes is perfectly OK. Once you’re out of high school wouldn’t you want to be hanging out with friends? I understand that a lot of people just coming out of high school want to walk around and scare other people or each other. Just walking around hanging out with friends either messing around with each other scaring people is ok in my book. All in all I believe that you should never stop dressing up but at least stop trick-or-treating by the end of high school.
I think that you should stop trick or-treating some time during high school because it’s still a holiday. People still open presets and eat chocolate on easter well after high school. So why can’t we trick or treat while we’re in high school? Another reason why I think we should still be able to trick or treat in high school is you’re not an adult until you turn 18. So why not enjoy your childhood while you’re still a kid? You’re childhood doesn’t last forever. The final reason why I think you should be able to trick or treat in high school is if the people giving out candy don’t want to give out candy to people who are “too old” then they should just turn their lights off and not give out candy at all. After all it is a free country.
Halloween. . . We all love dressing up and acting like someone else for a day and going around asking for candy from strangers. But when should we stop? 5th grade 8th grade 12th grade ? 1) you’re still young have fun 2) Thats what halloween is for 3) its fun to pretend to be something else for a day no matter if you sixteen or not. 1.I believe that you should be able to trick or treat till at least sixteen or till you’re almost out of high school, but put an effort just like the people who go out of there way to buy you candy. The costume is fixed in with the candy if you want the candy put the time into a costume , you can't expect to get candy if you’re not dressed up? If you are sixteen and you just go door to door asking for candy without a costume don't assume your going to get candy.People are different though some will give you candy some won't but i strongly believe that if you’re sixteen and you take the time to dress up you should be able to go trick or treating. You’re still young you should definitely be able to do things that young people do! Some people enjoy seeing kids still trick-or-treating and others have different opinion. 2. Halloween is the night , celebrated by children who dress in costume and solicit treats door-to-door. Children. . Last time i had checked when you’re 16 you’re still a child. Its halloween . . as long as you're being respectful and kind to others trick-or-treating is just fine to do when you’re in high school in my belief. 3. Why shouldn't you be able to trick-or-treat without people nagging about your age? Halloween is a fun thing to do you should be able to dress up and ask people for candy without being rejected for being 15,16,and or 17.. So again my belife is that when you’re still in high school and you dress up you should be accepeted to trick-or-treat .
Halloween Debate Halloween trick or-treating is probably one of my favorite holidays. you get free candy and get the honor to scare little kids. I believe tricker treating shouldn't end at any age 6-16 you can go with your friends and have fun and get some candy. 16- how ever long you live for you should take a kid with you, and while your there get some candy for yourself. some people think it should end at 16 when you get your drivers license because you can buy your “own candy”. but thats not fun at all. the point of halloween is to give candy out. and when you get denied thats just rude in my opinion. if you have the guts to dress up at 16 to go get candy. people should just be chill and give it to you. from my point of view if a teenager came up in a costume i would think it was cool and give them more candy than the other people. i have been trick or treating since i was 6 and i always have fun. now since i am older i go with friends and we scare people and get a little bit of candy while we are doing it. Everyone says that 12 is a good age to stop but i do not agree! 12 is too young! telling a 12 year old they can't trick or treat any more is like telling mr peanut to stop making peanuts. if you are 12 you should be able to go with a group of friends and have a bunch of fun while you're young. halloween only happens once a year so you have live it up while you can. One thing i love is when people leave out bowls of candy on the porch or a chair of something. they say only take one but. but if someone saw a bowl of candy i am pretty sure they would take a handful. one thing i think should stop is kids not dressing up to get candy. i have seen people go to houses in a t shirt and jeans and i think thats just pathetic, if your gonna trick or treat at least wear a coat and a hat and sunglasses. and say you're a gangster or something like that. One thing i think is stupid is, when people handing out candy don't give it to littler kids i saw a lot of adults not give it to like 6 year olds because they weren't dressed up. and thats dumb come on there 6 they have nothing else better to do. Also i think its cool when an adult comes up and asks for candy too! These are all the reasons why i think halloween trick or treaters should never stop! Know matter how old you are it shouldn't matter. Mostly everyone likes candy and they should be able to get it on halloween. if your gonna hand out candy then say no to people then why even celebrate it? if you’re gonna buy candy then not give it out don't celebrate it. I also think a good time to stop tricker treating is like 10;30 some people think it is good to stop at 9 but thats way to early! if you get lucky some people hand out candy tell 11:00. then once they get tired of giving it out they leave the bowl out or they just give handfuls of candy away. some people tricker treat untill midnight and thats just very very rude! if your gonna go trick or treating at least stop at a decent hour. go inside and eat candy and hang with friends thats what i do around 11:00. me and my friends go inside look around at our candy, trade some candy and even have candy wars with the bad candy. then that brings me to my next point. when people hand out stuff like raisins thats just creepy! like last year there was this famly handing out raisens and apples and stuff. i actually didn't mind the apple. but raisins? thats defenatly what kids want for candy is fruit (sarcasm). I think this will be a good arguement and i think i will easily win this debate. i hope other people take my side and agree with what i have written.
Miguel said... Halloween Debate In my opinion I think that childrens should stop Trick or Treating around High School. Well I think It Is I'm not sure If you Think something else, but I think Halloween should stop for High Schoolers. I Think High Schoolers should stop Trick or Treating because they don’t respect the costume and the spirit and make fun of younger kids like for example throw their candy bags over to the street so the cars can run over them,so I have three reasons why High Schoolers should not Trick or Treating. One Reason That High Schoolers should stop Trick or Treating Is there spirit on Halloween. They think Is a stupid Spirit, but Its actually a good for younger kids. High Schoolers shouldn’t be talking because they were younger kids too,but since there big and they think they are tough, they think that they can just be a jerk about Halloween. Now you see how they react when they knock the doors they will not say Trick or Treat at all. Ok now I have another reason why high schoolers should not Trick or Treat. Another reason Is that they would bully younger kids since It's Halloween and they can just do anything like throw there candies away or smashed them. They will do anything to punish them all night long. When at the door they cut In front of little childrens. Then they will have to tell the childrens move or they will make them move Instead. Then they will make fun of the people that they have horrible costumes because they think there cool just like that. In my opinion that’s horrible I would feel bad If I did that's wrong. Now my last reason Why high schoolers should stop the riot. Finally the last reason Is that maybe or possibly that they can have a job already like my brother that works In jack of the box today, but this Isn’t the time to talk about It. The high Schoolers would have enough money to buy themselves their candy Instead of Trick or Treat. The High schoolers would buy like a dozen bags of candy and maybe they would put It candy they have. I don’t know about you,but when the High schoolers graduate”what about college?”They need to forget the past things and have time to have a fantastic future unless they're dumb enough to think. So I gave my good three reason why High schoolers should not trick or Treat. I think that high schoolers should stop at the age around fifteen or sixteen for sure. If not they're going to be In trouble for the damage they can do like throw toilet paper In other people’s houses and draw graffiti and worst of all torture little childrens. Well If I was In high school I would not have done those do other things like helping my family. At the end, high schoolers should stop once again Trick or Treating. If you're reading this passage Join me and we could reunite and say “no more high schooler In Halloween.” Now If you don’t reunite with me then Say something In this passage. If you don't agree of what I said Is true. I would likely be please If you agree or tell me which one would you do to stop Halloween? Is It Elementary school,Middle school or High school.
In my opinion, I think that kids should stop trick-or-treating at the age of 15 or 16 for these reasons. I think this because when you are about this age you can go get your own candy instead of taking it from the little kids. They need to have the experience of going door to door and asking for candy and being able to dress up. The kids that are 15 or 16 have money to go get their own candy and some have cars to go buy it too. Some kids stop trick-or-treating earlier than 15 or 16 because they feel they are too old to be trick-or-treating still. Some parents also cut their kids off from trick-or-treating at the age of twelve. The law in some states is that you can trick-or-treating if you are twelve, and if you go trick-or-treating after twelve years of age then you will be fined 25 dollars or more. If you give candy to someone who is older than twelve then you will get a 100 dollar fined. I think that is wrong. The reason I think that kids should stop trick-or-treating at the age of 15 or 16 is because the customs stop becoming cute and start becoming inappropriate of little kids to see. Another reason is because they can start going to parties at that age. So it will give them something else to do, and they don’t need to be taking the candy from the little kids. The reason i think kids shouldn’t stop trick-or-treating is because it gives them something to do till they are allowed to go to parties. As so as they are allowed to go they will forget all about the candy. They can also dress up as scary things because they aren’t around kids. That’s why i think people should stop trick-or-treating at 15 or 16. Is because they can get their own candy, they can go to parties and they can hang out with their own friends.
In my opinion, I feel that kids should stop trick-or-treating by the time they turn sixteen, or at least in high school, and can fully operate a vehicle. They can drive themselves to get candy, earn money to buy it themselves, and they have better ways to spend time on Halloween then robbing a chance for a younger kid to get candy from a high school student. Trick-or-treating is a way for kids to get some candy and have fun in their costumes. So if high school students can get candy by just picking it up from a store, then I do not see the point of them not doing so. People who can drive really don’t need to trick-or-treat to get candy for they can buy it themselves just by driving to the store. Younger children can not drive (hopefully) to the store and get it themselves. High school students have this ability to do so. In addition to my statement, how disapointing would it be to see a band of older teens asking for candy on your doorstep on Halloween? Another thing is the fact if they can drive they can also have a job and if they don’t have transportation available, they can walk. They are old enough to work for their money and unlike children who can not. If you have a job and can drive, I think you should leave trick-or-treating to the kid who can not. Lastly, high school students can have better things to do on Halloween besides trick-or-treating. They can hang out with friends, dress up and go to costumes partys, or just buy some candy and enjoy the trick-or-treaters that come by. Or if not, do whatever you want to do. Just don’t deprive a chance for a younger child for sweets. In conclusion, I feel that if you can drive or have a job and in high school, you should not trick-or-treat. Like my former statement, there are other things you can do still on Halloween. Just make to leave the trick-or-treating to the kids.
Halloween trick-or-treating I have been trick-or-treating for the last 13 years and this year my mom and dad said it is going to be my last year but I for one totally disagree. I think that you should stop trick-or-treating in the first or second year of high school for three reasons. One most people start to drive around this time period and you can just go to the store and buy your own candy you want that isn't funsized. Two some adults trick-or-treat and that seems a little inappropriate unless you are escorting your child around the neighborhood. Finally three once you reach this age you find costume that might not be that appropriate for children that you see trick-or-treating around the neighborhood that are with their parents. My first point is for the people who are old enough to drive they will most likely go to a party or watch a horror movie or even buy their own candy more likely than not. By this age people will have halloween parties and will invite others to come and how would it look if you said I am trick-or-treating so I can't come. If you aren't at a party you might be watching a horror movie or better yet a horror movie marathon with your friends or by yourself. If you're not doing that you are either buying your own candy, buying your own candy or you are taking your younger siblings out trick-or- treating if you have any, My second point is if you are out trick-or-treating as an adult it look kind of inappropriate because I mean really you are an adult. Unless you are taking your child out or you have schizophrenia you shouldn't really be trick-or-treating. if you are trick-or-treating outside of the conditions listed above it makes you seem unreasonable. Do you really want to look like that person who was trick-or-treating at 20 or 30 or however old, I wouldn't. My final reason is appropriate costumes. Many kids choose cutesy little costumes but as you get older your sense of what is appropriate and what isn’t changes. Adults and teenages within there last two years of high school are going to choose more grown- up costumes than little kids and some of the things and be really scary for children or just not something that they should be seeing in a costume at their age. For example you wouldn’t want your child to wear a costume that is not okay for there age; so why would you want to have your oldest child wear one and have other children see it. That is my opinion in tick-or-treating for children and is why I believe it would be a better to stop trick-or-treating in year one or two of high school. by:Caitlin Adams
Vanessa G Masenhimer A.M. Core 10-22-12 Halloween Debate
I believe that you should stop trick-or-treating during the first year of high school. Then from there on, they can by their own candy from the dollar tree or probably find the easy way out like steal candy from your siblings. By this time kids don't want to dress up or do the games anyway. I read this Quote that said that “your never too old to dress up.” Getting candy: This is one of my reasons because thats kinda what trick-or-treating is all about and dressing up but we're not talking about that. you can get candy because you have money (well most likely) and you can buy some from the dollar tree or something and if you have an younger sibling or cousin you can alway ask for some or just (secretly) steal candy from them. Traditions: Well first off a kid at this age is most likely to not want to follow the traditions of dressing up or saying Trick-or-Treat and maybe the games like if you pumpkin patch you can do the games that they offer like dunk for an apple or like hide and seek in the hay bails.
Quote: I read this quote “Your never too old to dress up”. I think you can never be too old to dress up but that does not mean Trick-or-Treating. It means dressing up for dances or a party. Hopefully this whole thing will change your mind about when to stop Trick-or-Treating.
Some people say that kids should stop trick-or-treating after middle school but, believe that kids should stop trick-or-treating after the end of high school because when you’re in college it would be weird for a college man or woman to go trick-or-treating.The 3 reason why kids should not trick-or-treat after high school is 1.little kids might copy you 2.college kids might make fun of you 3.you might affect your future. One reason why people should stop trick-or-treating after high school is because kids will see you then they will do that until they get into college, and then there kids will do the same thing when they get into college. Another reason why kids should not trick-or-treat after high school is because in college people might mock or make fun of you. They might even bully you by calling you names. The third reason why kids who graduated high school should not trick-or-treat is because it could affect their plans for the future like jobs,a family, friends. To conclude kids should not trick-or-treat after high school because it could ruin their future with people, their families, and their friends.Thats why I think kids should not trick-or-treat after high school.
I believe that we should stop trick or treating when we are out of high school. The reason why i think this is because one Stores sell teen costumes around this time of year. Its the one night we can go around neighborhoods asking for candy. It also makes us feel like little kids again and brings back some childhood memories.
My second reason for being able to trick or treat until after high school is because Halloween has no rules to it except to have fun. That is what Halloween was all about until the 1900’s when it changed to just kids doing it. My last reason is that we as teens still love Halloween and are willing to dress up for the night. I feel that teens who are willing to dress up should deserve candy no matter what People say.
Trick-or-Treating seems to be a halloween tradition among many. But when is it a good time to stop being a child and going from door to door? I believe that people should stop trick-or-treating once they reach their middle years in high school. Once a kid/teenager reaches the age of 16/17, they should just stop taking the candy from the little kiddies. By this time they should have a job and or a car. I’ve personally noticed that all of the teenagers trick-or-treat in mass swarms or groups. By this time, all the houses they have been to are now low on candy since they take all of it. If they have a job, they can go buy their own gosh darn candy and let the kids have fun on halloween. A reason for them to stop at that age, is because all the teens like to stay out late and be mischievous. From personal experiences, teenagers like to TP people’s homes and cars. If teens stop trick-or-treating, it will possibly reduce noise, vandalism, and people beating each other up for candy. Also, teens this age are able to drive, so why not go to a halloween party? Teens are starting to go to halloween parties where they do teenager things. Another thought for them stopping is they are mean to the little kids just trying to have fun on halloween. Teens tend to cuss at little kids when they are walking from house to house. They don’t understand patients. They push little kids around and take their candy. If teens have the money for candy, they can go buy some. I don’t get a whole lot of money but I buy my own candy on halloween. So why can’t other teens that make more money than me go buy there own candy? Selfish maybe? If teens stop trick-or-treating at age 16/17, residents can go to sleep earlier than they did last year. Teens like to stay out late so they can get the rest of the candy and make rakett. From my opinion, when I’m done being out trick-or-treating with family and friends, I like to go to sleep. Having noisy 16/17 year old teens out in your neighborhood, is really annoying. Why do they even like to stay out late when it’s cold out? I know I don’t. I believe that after 10:00 pm, is a perfect time to stop trick-or-treating. For those older teens, don’t be mean to little kids, buy your own dang candy, and go home when you’re done.
I believe kids should stop trick or treating at the age of 15. I believe this because most kids that are older than the age of 15 can either go to a halloween party with all of their friends or they can drive themselves to the store and buy their own candies. If a teenager wants to go out and fetch some candy, then I believe that if they are all the way dressed up and have polite manners then they may go out and run the streets with their friends, or even their parents depending on the maturity, and responsibility of that child. The parents responsible for the child should have them maintained and under control. Another reason that if kids aren't dressed up and they're being obnoxious then they should be on a leash tied up to their bedroom door locked up. Most people don't respect little teens going house to house and being disrespectful. The third reason is if little kids are out running the streets then big kids could bully the younger ones. If there is bullying out in the streets then there could be illegal involvements which could involve the police and you could get arrested. All these reason have showed why my belief is that you should stop trick or treating when you are 15.
My opinion is that people should trick-or-treat from the start of two to seventeen. one reason it that you're not an adult yet so you can do like adult things. So you have to usually have nothing to do on halloween except trick-or-treat. Another thing is that high schoolers have after school activities or have stuff they have to do. By like sports, helping out,or even hanging out with friends and they could have plans with their family and have to go watch their siblings as the little ones trick-or-treat. And so the can’t trick-or-treat by watching their littles so they can’t go and get candy. Another good reason is that most of them can drive so instead of staying in your town on a non school night you could go and drive to some place. To go see your friends or a good movie instead. And so that they can go and start getting ready for when they're adults so they could buy some candy and pass it out and there parents house. the best reason is that most of them have a job that would or might start or end late at night. and if it doesn't they could use their check to go to the mall or go out to eat with family or friends. And some of the kids might not have a job in their town or the area that they live at. Those are the reason that I really think that kids should start and stop trick-or-treating at the ages two - seventeen.
Karisa H. Masenhimer, core 10/23/12 Arguing against: Vanessa G.
I believe at 13 years old that should be your last year of Trick-or-Treating, I think that because when your a teen you can do more things. Even when your 13 you can still by your own candy, Teens can do you lots of other things other than Trick-or-Treat. For example hang out with friends or hand out candy.
I believe that you should be able to stop trick or treating at the end of high school. Reason 1 you might have not been trick or treating before. Your parents might have not been able to take you trick or treating so you never really got to experience the fun of dressing up and getting candy. And you had to wait for a certain age before you could go out and trick or treat with friends or by yourself. So once you got old enough you took yourself out trick or treating.
Reason number two you might have to be a guardian to someone. It could be your younger sibling or you could be babysitting kids or you’re helping a friend out. And while you’re being a guardian you might decide to dress up too and get a little bit of candy not that much but a little bit. Or the kid that you’re taking care of could share some candy with you. And you don’t even have to take candy you could go up to the door and everything but you might not take the candy.
Reason number three you could just plain love Halloween. It may be a tradition and you love it. You like to dress up without pretty much anyone judging you. And you like to get candy see all the little kids dressed up and its an excuse to leave the house. And you could have loved it and not been able to go until you were older like I said before. So in conclusion I think you should be able to celebrate Halloween until the end of high school. Those are some reasons why kids should stop trick or treating in high school.
I believe people should stop trick-or-treating after high school. The first reason why is children and teens should able to trick-or-treat as long as they have time. Another is teens deserve to have as much fun as children do. Lastly it is a good way to be with friends. Some teens love to trick-or-treat and they should be able to do trick-or-treating. When you graduate high school you don’t have as much time to go trick-or-treating. Also teens like candy. It’s not only the children that get to have fun. Teens want to have fun as much as children. It is fun to go around the neighborhood and get candy with friends. Trick-or-treating is not the same as a party or the moves. Also you see new ideas and fun costumes. The end of high school is what I think is the right time to stop trick-or-treating. First teens are able to trick-or-treat as long as they want. Second because teens and children should get the same amount of fun. Finely trick-or-treating is good for being with friends.
My personal belief states that around the age of fifteen or in the beginning of high school you should start fading out of trick or treating.I do have some reasons to my belief.
The first is that once you get to that age you began to grow up and want be more independent and that goes into your halloween costumes and some of the costumes can began to be inappropriate for the younger kids.
The second is that some of the costumes can be pretty scary at times, and that also takes the fun out of the original halloween experience for the younger tricker treaters and sometimes it can scar them for life and not enjoy halloween. I personally do not enjoy the scary fact of halloween .
And for my final reason is that at times when people drive all the way across town to get candy the car loads full of kids can also ruin it for example one year my mom was handing out candy and she saw a car stop right in front of our house full of kids and come get candy from her at least more than half of them were teenagers. My mom ran out of candy in less than hour and when the little ones come around for candy and there wasn't any left . Almost all of the kids that came for candy were teenagers and that also takes away from the halloween experience for the younger kids . And i'm sure that when the adults hand out candy they aren't too happy that the teens are the ones hogging the candy from the little ones.
And that was my reasons for believing that you should stop trick or treating at the beginning of highschool or around the age of fifteen.
Caitlin A I am a strong believer that you should stop trick-or-treating at the age of 14. I am sorry but I have to agree with your parents. If you want you can go trick-or-treating with your little sisters next year. But I would stay at the sidewalk. Besides you could though a Halloween party next year. Would you rather go trick-or-treating then hangout dressed in a coordinating costume passing out candy with your friend. You would get to hang out, and watch a horror movie. It would be your own little party. You wouldn’t have to deal with your little sisters for at least three hours. I know you like that idea. So you see that is why I strongly believe that you should stop trick-or-treating after the age of 14. Now you know what I think I want to see your rebuttal. Hope its good and I wish you good luck.
I believe that the time to stop trick or treating is when you finish high school. And I believe that because a lot of high school kids do a lot of homework they deserve to get some time to just act like a kid and get in a costume also you can they can take their brothers or sisters trick or treating and they might get some candy for themselves. also they can sometimes don't even go trick or treating they go go to parties and they have fun. Another reason is that I think that when you're in college you have a job and they are going to go to work or something like that but going trick or treating that is something that would embarrass me if my friend saw me in a costume wanting candy andvt I think that they would would laugh at me if they saw me The last reason is that in high school you can go to parties dressed up as something and that is fun that is why I think that it would be ok with me
There are many kids that are still trick or treating and there are many kids that have stopped because they're “too old”. Well I’m here to state that you never can be too old to trick or treat. When you have kids sometime in your life it would be a joy to trick or treat with them. I know when I have kids I will trick or treat with them every halloween.
As I get older more of my friends stop trick or treating and I say you never can be too old. Last year both of my brothers stop trick or treating and thought they were “too cool” because they are both in high school. Most of their friend (not very many) to know what their doing. As I said before people can never be too old to trick or treat.
When I’m old and have kids, I will trick or treat with them until they start to go with friends and are too old to be trick or treating with their parents. Kids nowadays are playing Xbox and PS3 and are too boring to go and have a little fun.
My last reason people should never stop trick or treat is life is short soon you won’t be able to trick or treat. Thats what people should know not everybody has the honor to trick or treat, so people should enjoy it. That means that in poverty stricken places most people don’t go trick or treating. That could be you.
So live it up you never can be too “cool” to and have fun. People need to take a break from video games anyway. So life is too short to miss a halloween so go out there and get as much candy as possible and have fun!
Your ideas are awesome but I disagree that halloween should continue into high school and beyond. My first reason is older people can consume more candy leaving none for the kids. My second reason is by the time you are in high school you can almost drive a car so you can acquire candy. My final reason is when you are above middle school you tend to begin to scare kids. Halloween is about ecstatic children not adults and high school people. If adults and high school people start trick-or-treating like you say they should, wouldn’t that mean there is less candy for the young children? After all, the adults have a larger appetite for candy and they have bigger hands. If you grab a handful of candy, there would not be enough for the 6 year old kids to eat. You must agree that it would be depressing to be the young child who asks for candy only to realize everyone else has eaten it already. If you want the younger generation to be joyful, acquire your candy from other methods. By 16, you can take an adult and drive to the store to buy your own candy. During or after halloween sales you can get lots of candy cheap. It may not be fun but you have to agree it is more efficient. If you still want to participate in halloween you can buy candy to hand out. If everyone’s parents accompanies their children on every halloween snack run then then there will be no one to give candy. You say you had a great halloween as a child; it is now time to return the favor. The last thing I disagree with in your essay is I believe scaring innocent children does not include any honor. Sure, it is fantastic to have fun but not at the kids’ expense. Some of the costumes manufactured now are extremely disturbing and are capable of terrifying them out of their wits. Usually those terrifying costumes are only bought by high school kids and adults. If you put yourself in the shoes of the kid who is being tormented I think you would agree that scaring kids is not honorable. You make very valid points in your argument but I still disagree with it. My first reason was adults and high schoolers can eat more candy than little kids leaving small pickings left over for them. My second reason is by the time you are in high school you can almost drive so why not help yourself and others? My final reason is when you are past the age of 14 your mind goes from happy fun to sadistic fun. Halloween works in a system. That system says the adults and high schoolers give out candy while the kids go and have fun.
You can trick or treat at any age, americas a free country.I believe anyone can trick-or-treat at any age. Why?Americas a free country, although most adults don’t,they could if they wanted to,but most don't.Why?Because it is meant for children, and adults can buy candy instead of taking the candy that’s meant for the children.
I believe the social norm for high schoolers and up Trick-or-treating depends on the personality of the the person, the kind of people in the location he or she is at.The kind of people he or she is around.Because some kids might be more focused on doing bad things for fun, some might be focused on doing other things for fun like video games, and some might be focused more on school, some might love trick-or-treating and have always done it.Some might do it once and awhile just to pass time.Like I said,it depends on who you are and you like to do.
I beleive that everybody has a right to do what they like in life, even older people trick-or-treating,and anyone under high school especially, because halloween originated from mexico and everybody of all ages dressed up their,so why can’t america? So my belief is america is a free country and anybody and everyone can legally do what they want for fun as long as they are not breaking the law.Even trick-or-treating at 40 years old!!!So whatever you do is completely your decision.
My belief is that you should stop trick-or- treating in high school because ine you are growing older and you are becoming more mature. Two you should be nice and let little kids go and have fun and trick-or-treat, And three some people are poor or unfortunate. You should stop trick-or-treating because you are growing older and you are becoming more mature. Also you should stop because you are going off to college and you’re going to have to start studying for exams to pass your classes So you can get your degree in whatever you are going to college for. My second reason is that you should be nice and let the little kids go and have fun and trick-or-treat. You should stop and let the little kids get all the candy because this is the one time of each year that kids get to all the candy that want without people saying you can’t have that , and also because you only live once and you have more to live for. My third reason is that some people are poor or unfortunate, so they can’t just go to the store and buy candy whenever they want, like other people can. Let the unfortunate people go out for the candy because when you have a job you can buy candy if you really wanted candy that bad and that the unfortunate might not have the things you have so you should just be respectful and buy your own candy your. Instead of getting candy from people you could get the satisfaction of scaring people, and give out the candy that you bought, after scare them. My belief is that you should stop trick or treating in high school and my reasons are one because you are growing older and you are becoming more mature, Two you should be nice and let the little kids go and have fun and trick-or-treat. Last but not least reason number three is that some people are poor or unfortunate.

I disagree with everyone here because once ur 18 ur a free man and or woman and u get into highschool averagely at the age of 14 thats four years you have to go through and compared that to the 14 you went through and pls when you're 13 you start to mature and when you're in highschool you start to plan your future and come on let the little kids enjoy halloween when you're in highschool you can pretty much buy your own candy instead of walking around house to house asking for candy when some people like give you candy you don't even like , so why not just go to the store and actually buy the candy that you want. Sent by Geo .V
I believe that once you reach high school you should stop trick or treating. Now you are older you most likely won’t dress up, your have parties, and will ruin it for the little kids.
Admit it that once you get to a certain point, you just don’t want to dress up. You think you’re too cool or old or you have gone thru a million costumes and nothing is cool enough. If I was older and had kids show up without a costume and ask for candy I’d wouldn’t give you candy. The whole part of halloween is to dress up.
If you actually like dressing up, I’m sure that going to a party or being with friends is a lot more important than going around to get candy, especially since you could just go to the store and buy it now. For teenagers candy really isn’t that important.
When you were little did you ever get scared by older kids on halloween because they’d be making you scared on purpose? I did. Now it’s only some teens that do this but of course being little every teen would make you scared after something like that. Also in a rough economy and so many kids it’s hard for people to buy a lot of candy , so when teens take the rest of their candy, it will just be sad for the little kids who were REALLY looking forward to another tootsie roll.
That is all the reason why I think it’s just kinda wrong for high schooler to go trick or treating, they are ruining for other little kids
I believe that you should stop trick-or-treating sometime when you are in High School. Reason 1) You have parties and other things to go to. 2) you are taking away from the little kids experience and 3) You would get made fun of.
My reasoning to not go trick-or-treating because you have parties to go to is that it would be much more fun to just go to a party than to go running through the streets with a bunch of little kids. You can have a party of your own or go to one but it would be more fun on your part to just go to a party than to go trick or treating. You also could just go to a friends house and watch a scary movie or they come to your house. The new paranormal activity is out so just watch that. Some other movies you could watch are Taken 2 or the other paranormal activities. I personally enjoy those movies and I think it would be much more fun to just have a paranormal activity marathon than go trick or treating when i’m 16.
My idea behind reason number 2 is that you are taking away from the the little kids experience when 6 foot tall kids come walking by them in scary outfits and then you make them cry. No, thats just not right. You are taking away from their trick or treating thing by taking all of the candy that they could be getting too. You just walk up to doors asking for free candy with a bunch of third graders and taking their candy. There is just a certain age that it just gets ridiculous.
My number 3 reason is that you will get made fun of. You will if you go door to door looking for free candy dressed in some silly costume, I mean really people, come on, you need to stop some time, just go buy your own candy. You will get made fun of if you go to your crushes house in some silly costume asking for candy. Thats just awkward.
So please, just stop trick or treating for your own good and for the good of your fellow peers.
You say that we should stop trick or treating after high school. I say that if you trick or treat in high school you’ll scare off all of the little kids because our costumes are usually scarier. If you trick or treat through high school it means you were either deprived of a childhood or you never grew up. Either way if you are still out on halloween asking for candy it’s just, sad. It all depends on if you want to be followed by the cops all night or just buy your own candy. What I mean by being followed by the cops is that if you trick or treat in high school you probably won’t be out with your parents so the cops will suspect you of egging houses. I don’t really disagree with the dressing up part because it’s ok to dress up in a costume when you’re older it’s just not ok to be able to drive yourself trick or treating. I mean you can accompany a little kid just don’t ask for candy. Stop in middle school before you end up the only high schooler out on October 30th. No one ever wants to be the loner, so that’s why I say stop in middle school.
I am sorry to disagree with your statement and i aprreciate putting the time and effort in to your opinion ,but in my belife is that you should stop around the age of fifteen.
Im sorry but ounce you reach arround the end of highschool you are to old . My first reson is when you are around the of seventeen to eigteen going door to door asking for candy amugst five to fourteen or fifteen year olds, its kind of inapropreate .
My second reson is that when you reach that age you tend to be less responsabl, and want to be alot more independent then when your when you were ten years old. Also when the Adults with their younger kids trying get them to enjoy the true halloween experience of tricke or treating and im sure that the adults do not want their kids seeing that sort of behavior.
My third is that when you are that age you kind of worry about looking good then experenceing the true experence and when you go up to the door well i just dont think thats the true meaning of it and the littel on are usally around you and they look up to the older ones (you) and your not leaving them with a good example .
Although their are some exceptions of tricker treating around that age but not every year after that is not good .
i disagree with you matthew i believe that little kids think it would be cool! and for all you know the parents dont let the kids eat the candy. if your 16 the parents really have no say in it. where if your 6 the parents can just take it because like you said they have a "bigger apptite for candy" and i dont think they would take a handful. most people say only take one and everyone is fine with it. and ittle kids get scared about everything! i dont think someone taller getting candy will scare them at all! there parents dont scare them why would we? its not like were gonna try to talk to them.
Clara K. Mr.Masenhimer -A.M Core Oct.24-12 trick-or-treat
Jason L. Arguing; I’m sorry to say that I disagree with your debate, because if your parents never took you out then you could call up a friend and ask if you could go with them instead of missing Halloween. Pulse during the middle of high school, say sophomore year, you wouldn’t want to dress up unless you're going to a Halloween party, otherwise I would probably not dress up to go trick-or-treating. Now lets go back to where you could be a guardian, I wouldn’t mind being a babysitter or an older sibling, taking younger kids out to go trick-or-treating, I just wouldn’t want to dress up with them, sometimes it makes other people uncomfortable with you coming up to them saying, “trick-or-treat!” Lastly I would have to say that if Halloween was a tradition in your family then you could just have Halloween dinner, not having to go trick-or-treating. Maybe you could go to dinner in your costume but then you would probably be the only one in your family wearing one then it would be really uncomfortable for everyone including yourself. Thats why I say that people should stop trick-or-treating at the age of 14.
gonzalo said that...... why i believe that people should stop in high school in some point in their life. I say that you should stop at highschool because some people still want to have some fun and some still want to people that still like it.People still want even if they don’t care if they're in high school. Some high schoolers still want to have some fun for the last time and before they go to college. My reason is people or high schoolers still want to but some people have a problem and they think is kind of weird or they think that is for little kids and there are not smart.I say that they still want to they can and nobody has to say they are little kids and my main is that high school and kindergarden time is very different.
High school time is a night and well kindergarden time is early so that means high school start late and and late while kindergarden time start early and end early. They want to they can because they should still have some great time before they go and be a grownup and i say that they should and they have the right to.
My third one is there in high school come on,some say you’re a little kid and that is fourth grade things but i say want to they should because it’s there choice and we don’t control them or parent’s and friends.com on people i say high schoolers should stop at one point in high school.
I respect what people say and write about the things we are doing about when should stop trick or treat.you got your own idea and i got mine so i respect you but i half to say YOU SHOULD STOP TRICK OR TREATING IN SOME POINT IN HIGH SCHOOL so yup.
Briana T. Am. Core Chelsie A. Arguement Chelsie i disagree because people can do whatever they wont because its a free country and others states arn't Oregon. Also the little kids shouldn't be around big kids if they are going out trick-or-tricking and the little kids should be in a safe town. Where there isn't high school in those outfits.
In my opinon people should stop Trick-orTreating when they are in High school. One of my reasons that they should stop at high school or near college is because they need to give some time for the elementary students so they can have some fun. My second reason is that Im pretty sure high schoolers won’t trick- or -treat when they can have a halloween party. My third reason is,instead of going to some strangers houses and asking for some candy when you can buy candy and eat it without having to have the trouble walking around long places.
My first reason I think sometime in High school people should stop Trick- or -Treating is that we should let kids who are younger have their time and fun for halloween.I think its okay if their accompaning their younger siblings (If they’re young) and suppervizing them for example I only go to trick-or-treat with my 2 year old sister and my 4 year old brother just to show them how to say trick or treat and help them navigate there way from house to house.
My second reason is that I think High schoolers wont trick or treat is they can have halloween parties. In my opinion teenagers would rather be at a party then going to many strangers houses and asking for candy when they can can buy some and eat it all for themselves. My third reason the same thing is but you walk longer.
And I dont agree with some of the age groups that people think trick or treaters but its okay. But I think high school is the age people should stop
I think you should stop trick-or-treat once you get your drivers license because then you can drive to the store and get your own candy. You should just buy candy because you can get what you want and as much as you want. These are some more reasons for believing this. My reasons are hogging candy, scaring little children with costumes, and parents getting mad. First of all you will be hogging candy even though you can go buy some, and making other parents mad. People buy candy for little kids not high schoolers. Plus they can use halloween to get candy and not the joy of dressing up. Some people enjoy scaring little kids by dressing up in very gory costumes. That could scar them for life, or they just ignore him/her. Plus if you scare a little kid with his/her dad, he might beat you up, that would be bad for you. Last but not least the parents might get mad at you. They might get mad because they want halloween to be for the little kids. They don't want to see a 18 year old on their doorstep saying “trick-or-treat” and asking for candy. Those are my reasons you should stop trick-or-treating when you get your drivers license.
I believe that kids should stop trick-or-treating once they get out of high school. I think this because kids should always have good spirit. If they dress up and have a good spirit, why should they have to stop what they like to do? I also believe this because once you graduate high school you become a young adult, and adults should not go trick-or-treating, but kids should be able to have as much fun as they like. Last, I think Halloween should be fun for everybody, and high schoolers ( that are mature, of course ) can be just as fun as little kids when they are knocking at your door. I think that any kid that has a costume and good spirit should be able to trick-or treat. I don’t think we should stop kids from having fun if they have a good holiday spirit. If they like and enjoy trick-or-treating, and they aren’t making trouble, then who are we to tell them they shouldn’t or can’t. Of course they can always go buy candy, but if they have holiday spirit, then they should be able to go. I believe that good spirit is a very important determining factor. I also think that when you graduate high school, you become a young adult. But until then, you are still a kid. When you become a young adult, you take on responsibilities, and should not go trick-or-treating. When you are in high school, you still should be able to participate in some kid activities because you’re still a kid and should have fun. Last, I believe that halloween should be fun for everybody. If a high schooler wants to go trick-or-treating, thats fine. Some high schoolers like to hang out with friends and give out candy. Others might want to go trick-or-treating. If it’s fun for them, then we shouldn’t take that away. Halloween should be fun for everybody, so let high schoolers go trick-or-treating. These are some of the reasons I think high schoolers should be able to go trick-or-treating. They deserve to have fun if they can be mature about it. I don’t think anyone should be able to take that away.
Argument In my opinion I think that kids should not wait until high school to stop trick or treating because that is a little old to be still going trick or treating. I think that if you are under the age of elementary school then it is ok to go trick or treating, but once you are at the age of late elementary school or early middle school then that is a good age to stop trick or treating. In my opinion I think that most kids in middle school should do something a little more grown up, like having or going to a party. That way they are not getting in little kids way and they can still get candy and dress up and see friends. In high school, it is still ok to go to some parties, but in my opinion I think that people in high school should start getting ready to stop celebrating halloween.
Rebuttal against Briana T. Well Briana not all little kids stay away from the big kids and the customs at the stores are not very kid appropriate. Some parents let their kids wear those kind of customs, and there are some kids that go with high schoolers and the high schoolers sometimes wear scary costumes. Yes most kids are in safe towns but that does not mean that the older kids won't try to scare them in some way when they get older in high school.
Just because Oregon is a free state does not mean that parents can't get together and make a paper and ask the government to banned kids older than like 13 to stop trick-or-treating, or they will get fined with a certain amount of money. Then the older kids would have no fun on that day unless they go to a party or something, and by the way you arent supposed to argue with people in the same age group as you.
Halloween debate In my opinion people should stop trick-or-treating in high school once they are able to drive and/or they get a job. People at that age should have a job and be able to pay for their own candy. And if they have a job they are probably too busy to go trick-or-treating. Also they should stop once they are able to drive because if they can afford gas money then they can buy themselves candy. But I don’t think there ever will be an age where people will stop dressing up for Halloween. People shouldn’t not be able to dress up at any age because for Halloween parties you will have to dress up somehow. I would actually encourage people to continue dressing up for Halloween too help keep young. I also believe once you can drive you should stop trick-or-treating because by that point you would probably just be going out to scare your friends or the little kids. And scaring the little kids just walking on the street is not really ok but go ahead and scare your friends.
After reading your opinion I do agree with your points on why people should not be tricking and or treating after high school. I also agree with you when you said that in high school you’ll have a car and can buy your own candy, however my opinion is that tricking and or treating should stop at a younger age. I believe that tricking and or treating should stop at around the end of the fifth grade. One of my reasons for why I think tricking and or treating should stop around the end of fifth grade is the tradition. Tricking and or treating on Halloween has always been for little kids having fun getting candy, I think that having older people doing this would ruin the tradition. Another reason why is safety, if there are older kids out at night with littler kids there is more of a chance of bullying.
Ryan H. Mr. Masenhimer 10-24-12 Trick-or-Treat Debate
I disagree with Ashley P. because high schoolers end up dressing up in these gory and bloody costumes just to scare little kids and the grown-ups who open their door. I also disagree with the fact that you say, high schoolers should be able to trick-or-treat if they are respectful but the point is, is that they aren’t respectful at all. From personal experience, I’ve seen houses that have a sign that will say “take one please,” but instead of taking one, some high schoolers will either take all the candy or they’ll take all the candy with the bowl. My final reason why I disagree with you is because the holiday was intended for kids. Yes you’re right about it being fun, but high schoolers see it as a fun time to mess with people and pull extreme pranks. I will say again that I disagree with you very strongly, and I believe that people should stop trick-or-treating at the end of elementary school.
I believe that people should stop trick-or-treating when they get out of high school. I think that this is an appropriate age to stop trick-or-treating because when they get out of high school they should already have a car and have money, so they should be able to go to the store and buy some of their own candy. I think that it’s not fair for only little kids get to have fun and go trick-or-treating. The big kids should be able to still act like kids because before they know they’re adults. Another reason for people who are getting out of high school to go trick-or-treating is that they don’t want to sit home all night. If they do go they can also take their younger siblings. That makes it fun for everyone. I think that age shouldn’t matter when people go trick-or-treating. My last reason for my belief is that high schoolers should be able to live out their last halloween as a kid. Because by the time next halloween rolls around they would be adults and they would be making adult choices. So their last halloween they should be free and dress up before adulthood takes hold of them. A lot of high schoolers have these big tests coming like the s.a.t’s and other things. If they go have fun that can take a load off of their shoulders. For some of may not understand and not agree. but if you take time to listen i might just be able you let you understand and just maybe change your mind. So i think if anyone disagrees with me then you should send me a comment.
I understand your thinking, however i’m a bit confused about how seventeen should be your stopping point. If they are seventeen, they should be already an adult for the most part. They can give out candy themselves. If they are two, they are still toddlers. I could not imagine a two year old eating candy. The sentence you have “one reason it that you're not an adult yet so you can do like adult things.” I’m having a difficult time figuring out what that means. Is it an error? Please if you may explain your thought process between thse two ages. Another sentence in your post was “another good reason is that most of them can drive so instead of staying in your town on a non school night you could go and drive to some place.” I disagree. Just because they can drive (this is my understanding of it) does not give them a right to leave the area on Halloween. They could stay home and give out candy or accompany their younger siblings. Please explain your thoughts on your post if you could, and assist me on your reasonings. Thanks you.

Juliette J Arguing against Jacob H. I agree with your statement about enjoying your childhood while you’re still a kid, but there are many things that high schoolers can do to celebrate Halloween besides trick or treating. Like you said, you could go to a party, or in my opinion you could also carve pumpkins, throw a party yourself, or have a scary movie night. The majority of those activities could include eating candy, if you must have some. Those are all activities that you could do to celebrate Halloween without going trick or treating, and to still enjoy your childhood. In your debate you said that if the people giving out candy don’t want to give out candy to people who are “too old” then they should just turn their lights off and not give out candy at all. Well, the people that think its okay for k-5 graders to trick or treat wouldn’t give out candy just because a high schooler might trick or treat? That doesn’t make a lot of sense. The adults who like little kids to knock on their doors still want to be part of the holiday too, they just don’t appreciate high schoolers asking for candy. I think after elementary school kids should stop trick or treating.
Karisa I don't Know why you don't agree with Vanessa G because while I was reading her reasons they were so good that the words were stuck In my head. The age that she said was around first year of high school she’s right because the High schoolers can just get their candy at the dollar store or any other store they don't care about Halloween they just care about themselves. Also they can steal of their own siblings or just trade something for It. Maybe the High Schoolers have money from their allowance. They may al well just waste It on there lifes like c'mon. They don't even like It when the little children come at the door and yelling out Trick or Treat. Then when they say “Sorry childrens we don’t have any candy.” But Instead they have candy near the kitchen like when I was six they said they didn’t have any candy but when I peaked In the house I say a bowl of candy. Another reason Is that they will never be old enough to dress up In Halloween. The High schoolers can just dress up whatever they can. Not like elementary kids that their moms have to pick their costumes. Also the high schoolers will have parties but Is always right after or before Halloween.
Masenhimer A.M Core Arguing back at Clara K You make a few good points yes you could call a friend, yes it would feel uncomfortable but what I meant was what if you didn’t have any friends or your parents wouldn't take you because they just wouldn’t allow you to go out there even with them after dark. And I know many people that are over the age of 14 and still dress up and trick or treat. High Schoolers aren't only dressing up for parties, they’re also doing it have fun and get candy for free. And what i meant by family tradition was the whole family dresses up and decorates the house. So fourteen is a little too early for my opinion I think it should be around the middle or end of high school.
I disagree with Geo because I know in high school you have to start planning your future but why not take a break from planning and get some free candy? It doesn't matter if it’s not your favorite its still free. I also agree that you should start maturing at the age of 14 but that doesn't mean you have to stop having fun. You can also still let the little kids have some fun but they usually go out at about four or five so all you’re doing is getting all the leftovers, and if you want the good candy then just go to richer neighborhood they usually have the best candy.
dear Tyler I disagree with kids in high school going trick-or-treating because some high schoolers have jobs to get their friends and themselves candy before they get out of high school. My brother still has two more years till he is out of school and he already has a job to by his own candy.
dear Tyler I disagree with kids in high school going trick-or-treating because some high schoolers have jobs to get their friends and themselves candy before they get out of high school. My brother still has two more years till he is out of school and he already has a job to by his own candy.
Not all are necessarily going to wear gory or disturbing costumes but they are celebrating halloween and they aren't going to scare someone for the heck of it. so i disagree with of that. well if they don't respect they don't get candy. Yes, they may want to do pranks but they mostly do it on people they know so they will funny and not criticizing. I disagree with you about the age group because they can't drive any where to get candy so what is the point. Thats why i rebutted against Ryan H.
ARGUMENT AGAINST KARISA H I respect your opinion Karisa, But I believe that teens that are 13, 14, and even 15 could still trick-or-treat. Teens should still be able to live like kids until they’re old enough to drive or at least make money to buy candy. I would like to keep trick-or-treating for a few more years. Halloween is a time to be with friends. Trick-or-treating is a good way to hang out with friends and just have some fun. The candy that I get from trick-or-treating, goes to my younger cousins that are only out for a half an hour. I only trick-or-treat for an hour or two then I hand out candy. I even put some of my candy in the candy bowl just to be nice and give the kids candy.
I strongly disagree with your statement about the cops following you around. The cops will not just follow you around all night long. And when I go trick-or-treating I hang out with friends I'm not going to be driving. We would be walking around. It's Halloween kids are supposed to get scared. If the kids are really little high schoolers wouldn't scare them. My uncle went trick-or-treating with his friends and isn't drive, and he was 17. They just walked around town messing with 4th-8th graders and even some high schoolers. Most people In high school just go around town messing with people. Sometimes they get candy but most people handing out candy don't care. They just make them do something ridiculously embarrassing for the candy.
Ashley P am core rebuttal Ryan H pm core “ high schoolers end up dressing up in these gory and bloody costumes just to scare little kids and the grown-ups who open their door “ it's halloween not everyone including kids k-5 are gonna dress in fairy outfits or power ranger costumes. Halloween is supposed to be scary and creepy it's not valentines day. “I’ve seen houses that have a sign that will say “take one please,” but instead of taking one, some high schoolers will either take all the candy or they’ll take all the candy with the bowl” I saw 3erd graders do that last year so. you don't have to be in high school not to listen. “I also disagree with the fact that you say, high schoolers should be able to trick-or-treat if they are respectful but the point is, is that they aren’t respectful at all”. Really my sisters are all in high school and they are respectful .Theres so many respectful kids at the high school your labeling. Don't label people thats rude. So next year all a sudden you're going to be disrespectful? okay. "My final reason why I disagree with you is because the holiday was intended for kids."Says who? i've never ever heard anyone say that. Look up halloween in the dictionary it doesn't say “a holiday only for kids in elementary school.” You don't really have a valid statement whatsoever. And i disagree with you 100%
You can't control what what people decided to wear but i'm pretty sure that teenagers aren't going to come around and just start scaring little kids, but I do think that this is a little to old to be going trick or treating plus if high school start going trick or treating it will late and families that are handing out candy will won't be very happy if you ring their door bell at 10 at night. Plus they are old enough to buy their own candy or go to a halloween party or something
Since no one argued against me, I am arguing with you guys.
I think that Brey is right, teens should be able to trick or treat as long as they can. They should be able to do whatever they think is right. I think that as long as they stay out of trouble, they still can go.
My first reason to this is that you should be able to trick or treat as long as you want. You should be able to go trick or treating if you are a teen. Teens LOVE candy. I don’t think that you should trick or treat after you are maybe 18. Then you are an adult. You don’t need to go trick or treating then but you stil can while you are in high school if you really feel that it is necessary.
My second reason is that as long as they stay out of trouble, teens should be able to go trick or treating. Most of the teens who even care enough to go trick or treating usually just want to stay young and e a kid for a little while longer. It shouldn’t matter how old you are, if you want candy, go get some.
Rebutal to Veronica I disagree with you because it all depends on the person. It depends on the child because some kids still like to go out and trick-or-treat, and dress up. And plus its one time of the year where they can dress up in ridiculous costumes and not get made fun of. Also its the one time of the year where they can be immature and not get in trouble for it.
Your argument makes great points but I say it is invalid. First, many people have different perspectives of right and wrong. Second, yes there are kids who are mature and do the right thing but these kids unfortunately in the minority. Third, it takes maturity to get candy from the store and leaving candy for kids. Halloween is holiday where kids are supposed to be the happiest not the high schoolers. Besides, most high schoolers will probably do the wrong thing and scare kids. Although many people can differentiate the difference between right and wrong the standards for it vary. This whole debate is about whether it is right or wrong to to stop trick or treating in middle school, high school, or elementary school. As you may have noticed from the comments, the responses are diverse with opinion. Also, there is a difference between knowing right and wrong than actually doing what is right or wrong. My next reason is even though there are some mature kids there are not many. Everyone has their own opinion on what is mature and what is not. If they happen to know how to act mature it is still different being responsible and not frightening kids. Sadly, I think most of kids know how to behave but most of them don’t. My evidence behind this is I have witnessed the capacity of maturity that children in middle school have and from my point of view it is the majority of kids who are not responsible. You say in your argument it is mature to not scare people during halloween. I say being mature is not trick or treating. It takes will to not go around and terrify young kids, but it takes a kind and selfless person to go to the store and buy candy with their own money instead of going around and asking for free candy. If people go around trick or treating they may also ruin the poor childrens halloween by taking a bunch of candy and leaving sufficient amounts for all the kids in the neighborhood. If everyone stops trick or treating in high school then those are 4 years that kids will not get their full desire if treats. Your point of view has many strong points and you pierced quite a few wounds in my argument. It is possible that your perspective may be right because I don’t celebrate halloween so I have never experience going from door to door saying trick or treat. But I still believe that trick or treating should be stopped in middle school. My first reason was many people have different point of views on what the right thing is and wrong thing is. My next reason was there are kids who act their age but their numbers decimate as time wears on. My last reason was it takes a caring and empathetic person to buy candy from the store and leaving candy for kids. There are two sides you can take. On one side there is a trick or treater that wishes to continue his tradition and go get candy. On the other side there is one who decides to let the next generation have fun as they once did. Which path do you choose?
Clara K. Mr.Masenhimer A.M Core Oct.25,12 Rebutling Jason's argument
Yes, I would agree that sometimes maybe your parents wouldn't allow you to go Trick-or-Treating, but that wouldn't last forever, they would have to eventually go trick-or-treating with you. Plus everyone has friends to go trick-or-treating no matter what, but if someone didn't have any friends then I would sure invite them to go trick-or-treating with me, even though I'm not a big trick-or-treater. Everyone has friends, and if your family celebrates Halloween by decorating the house and dressing up then that's fine by me, but keep in mind, that in my opinion I think kids should stop trick-or-treating at age 14.
Rebuttal: Agree with Juliette J I agree with Juliette and here is why. When you’re in highschool and your parents trust you enough and think you are responsible enough, they could let you have a Halloween party. Halloween parties are a good way for teens to have fun on halloween without walking door to door for candy. You could have games at your party that the prizes are candy. If you really want candy, you should just ask your parents for five dollars and go buy some. Another good way to celebrate or have fun on Halloween is to have a scary movie night(like Juliette suggested). Personally, if I don’t want to go and bother people for candy, I stay at a friend’s house and watch scary movies. In my opinion, it’s more fun to watch scary movies and/or go to a Halloween party and/or go to a haunted house. Those are all good ways to have fun on Halloween with dressing up for candy. I don’t dress up anymore for Halloween because I feel that I am too old for that. Like i said in the previous statement above, haunted houses are an excellent way to celebrate and have some fun on Halloween. Haunted houses give you a good spook but they also create time to spend with family and friends. I like going to haunted houses because I get to test my braveness in front of friends and maybe girls(; I liked to get scared every once in awhile just to have fun. It’s also fun to watch your friends get the poop scared out of them.
Well we all have our own opinion your and and mine might be different, mine and your just o so happen to be different. And i am going to stick to my belife of stopeing aroud the end of middel school or the begging of highschool .
And i understand that you belive some where around highschool but i just do not think thats an appropreate age in my opinion and others and their comments and i apreceate you shareing your opinion on this specific subject of tirck or treating. And their are some exceptions on that age of tricker or treating i just dont think its the right one .
And their some exceptions to tricker or treating around that age that is ok but every year after that i just do not agree, also we kind of a agree we both think highschool i just think about it at a serten time in high nit just sometimie cuz you could be eighteen and still be in highschool . Thank you for shareing your opinion with me but i am going to stick to my belife .
Argument I disagree with Grace p. because I believe that little kids dont care what other big kids do.In fact it would be better if big kids trick-or-treated with the little ones so thay could make sure no one messes with them thay are walking aroung in the dark by the way and the big kids could make them feel better because, thay would feel cool, getting to go trick-or-treating with big kids.
I also think that it’s Totally okay to dress up or not no matter how old you are,I see adults do it all the time even my karate teacher dressed up for his halloween birthday party. And I also disagree with her because a lot of peaple would consider it rude only to give out candy to little kids and nobody else,it just dosen’t make sense, you are supposed to give out candy to everybody that comes to your door if you giving out candy at all.Thats the whole point of trick-or-treating.Peaple probably would not feel good about themselves if you said thay were not good enough for your candy, just because their older.I do agree not if their not dressed up don't give them any,but thats only if they are not dressed up at all.Even they have a bag on their head and thats it still give them candy. And maybe some peaple can’t affoired a costume.
And if your a little kid and your scared because some big kid scares you.Do something about it.Stand up for yourselves.Have a battle.Scare them back.Go find some parents or some nice peaple and get help, dont just shrivle up and cry and give up on halloween, thats lame it’s the th.You have power.Eat some candy to give you energy.
My argument to Tyler H is that in high school you get more homework than you do now and you need to do that over trick-or-treating. As you said, “If they have a job they can buy their own candy.” and chances are they will have a job to get their own candy if they want. They could be with friends as you said, or even at parties. Some people look down on you if you are that old and trick-or-treating like a kid. There is an age where you need to act more grown up and that is around the end of middle school. I believe it is ok to still dress up but not to go trick-or-treating as you said, “Since you have a job you can buy your own candy and not take the candy that could be going to little kids that don't money.” They will have a job most likely so save the candy for middle school and younger. As I said there is an age to stop trick-or-treating and that time is now. If you want candy that bad then you can either buy it yourself or have your houses leftover candy (if there is any) so now is the time to stop trick-or-treating.
I know bigger kids go around scaring kids because I’ve seen people hiding in bushes and jumping out at little kids, usually they go in scary costumes or just masks and hide and wait for kids. I do agree that you can hog the candy but I’ve seen people scare little kids. I’ve also seen people out at 10 o’clock and knocking on doors, so I do agree with you partly but I disagree that people scare little kids.
I believe this because some people may not have money to get some so as long as they are in a costume and stop at a decent time they should be able to go. I know some people think they are just taking little kids candy but there are a lot of houses you can go to to get candy so it is not like the little kids will not get candy. They also get the same amount of candy as them its not like you need to give them more because they are older. If you absolutely do not want to give them candy the do not but you can't get mad if they come to your house on halloween and say trick or treat if there is not a sign on your door saying a age limit for it. Another reason is they could be going with a family member and want to make the night fun instead of just watching everyone. Think of it this way, if your mom made you take your little brother and or sister out to go trick or treating wouldn't it be more fun for both of you did it to. It would probably make them feel more comfortable and make it more of a bonding time for you. You could help protect them at the same time form the kids who like to steal candy from other kids or from anything that could hurt them. This is why if you are in high school trick or treating has its benefits. My last reason is that high schooler’s should be able to live out their lives while they're still young and be able to be free so when they are old enough to get a car they can go out and buy their own candy. Right now some of them are not old enough to drive or there parents will not let them so they can't go to store to get candy so this gives them a chance to get some. Also in high school they have a lot of big tests and exams and their whole future is riding on weather they get into a good college or not so this can take some of the stress off and they can go out and have fun for a night and get some candy. I know some of you do not agree with this so leave a comment and i will see what i can do to help you understand what i am thinking and maybe change your mind.
I meant to say can’t instead of can sorry about that and lots of two year olds start to like other food than just baby food. and yes kids over 17 do have their license and if all you could really do is pass out candy on halloween then they could leave town to go hang out with there friends or go to a movie because if i was a 17 year old i wouldn't want to just stay home all night and wait for a knock or ring.and all the stuff i'm saying it just opinions not the facts so you might think different than i do so yah.
Alexis, I agree with you on some points but there are reasons I must disagree with. Some I disagree with are how you say that they should stop being able to trick-or-treat when they have a job or can drive. For some states and other countries kids are forced into child labor. Also in some other countries or states kids can drive at our age or possibly lower. Also going off of my last statement, it could be very dangerous. Another thing, Halloween parties aren’t for everyone. Some can’t go or just wouldn’t feel comfortable going. I hope this helped you with your paragraph flaws.
Argument against Clara K. Ok so I think we are getting to an agreement to what age you should stop trick or treating. I am going to stop at age 14 but I will be in high school by that time so you should think that some people have their birthday in the summer and by the time they’re fourteen they will be in high school. But I think you could still go a few more years of trick or treating. But yes fourteen is a good age to stop.
i disagree with what you have written ! you said you should stop and grade school? i dont agree at all just because you may scare little kids who cares if they dont like it they can go trick or treating someone else and not in that neighborhood! i think kids there ag. the parents eat the candy anyways and us kids are really looking forward to another tootise roll and not for our parents
Abby, I respect your opinion, and i can understand where you’re coming from especially with the kids from other countries but in that case I would say they can trick-or-treat till the age of fifteen or so. And as we talked about earlier I am still not quite sure what you mean by be a little dangerous. As for the Halloween parties statement I would say it is definitely an opinion thing on whether or not you would enjoy them or feel comfortable attending a party.
The end of high school is a wonderful time to stop trick-or-treating. Some teens never or rarely get to trick-or-treat because there parents never or rarely let them. Also some teens don’t get to just go to the store and get candy. All though when you are in college you have more freedom to get candy. Teens deserve mostly all of the same things children do.
Abby, I respect your opinion, and i can understand where you’re coming from especially with the kids from other countries but in that case I would say they can trick-or-treat till the age of fifteen or so. And as we talked about earlier I am still not quite sure what you mean by be a little dangerous.
Halloween Debate
Halloween trick or-treating is probably one of my favorite holidays. you get free candy and get the honor to scare little kids.

Halloween Debate
In my opinion I think that childrens should stop Trick or Treating around High School.
Halloween trick-or-treating
I have been trick-or-treating for the last 13 years and this year my mom and dad said it is going to be my last year but I for one totally disagree.
If you're not doing that you are either buying your own candy, buying your own candy or you are taking your younger siblings out trick-or- treating if you have any,
My second point is if you are out trick-or-treating as an adult it look kind of inappropriate because I mean really you are an adult.

Halloween Debate
I believe that you should stop trick-or-treating during the first year of high school. Then from there on, they can by their own candy from the dollar tree or probably find the easy way out like steal candy from your siblings. By this time kids don't want to dress up or do the games anyway. I read this Quote that said that “your never too old to dress up.”
Getting candy: This is one of my reasons because thats kinda what trick-or-treating is all about and dressing up but we're not talking about that. you can get candy because you have money (well most likely) and you can buy some from the dollar tree or something and if you have an younger sibling or cousin you can alway ask for some or just (secretly) steal candy from them.

Trick-or-Treat

I believe at 13 years old that should be your last year of Trick-or-Treating, I think that because when your a teen you can do more things. Even when your 13 you can still by your own candy, Teens can do you lots of other things other than Trick-or-Treat. For example hang out with friends or hand out candy.

Even when your 13 you can still by your own candy, Teens can do you lots of other things other than Trick-or-Treat. For example hang out with friends or hand out candy.

Mr.Masenhimer
Another reason is that I think that when you're in college you have a job and they are going to go to work or something like that but going trick or treating that is something that would embarrass me if my friend saw me in a costume wanting candy andvt I think that they would would laugh at me if they saw me
The last reason is that in high school you can go to parties dressed up as something and that is fun that is why I think that it would be ok with me
Halloween
Trick~or~Treat

So please, just stop trick or treating for your own good and for the good of your fellow peers.
argument against Tyler H.

Jason L. Arguing;
I’m sorry to say that I disagree with your debate, because if your parents never took you out then you could call up a friend and ask if you could go with them instead of missing Halloween. Pulse during the middle of high school, say sophomore year, you wouldn’t want to dress up unless you're going to a Halloween party, otherwise I would probably not dress up to go trick-or-treating. Now lets go back to where you could be a guardian, I wouldn’t mind being a babysitter or an older sibling, taking younger kids out to go trick-or-treating, I just wouldn’t want to dress up with them, sometimes it makes other people uncomfortable with you coming up to them saying, “trick-or-treat!”
Lastly I would have to say that if Halloween was a tradition in your family then you could just have Halloween dinner, not having to go trick-or-treating.

Arguement
Chelsie i disagree because people can do whatever they wont because its a free country and others states arn't Oregon.
But I think high school is the age people should stop
jose v period 1
Argument
In my opinion I think that kids should not wait until high school to stop trick or treating because that is a little old to be still going trick or treating.
Halloween debate
In my opinion people should stop trick-or-treating in high school once they are able to drive and/or they get a job.

Arguing against: Miguel S.

Trick-or-Treat Debate

Halloween Debate
To Gavin M.
Thanks you.

Arguing against Jacob H.

Defending Vanessa G

You make a few good points yes you could call a friend, yes it would feel uncomfortable but what I meant was what if you didn’t have any friends or your parents wouldn't take you because they just wouldn’t allow you to go out there even with them after dark.
How old is too old for trick-or-treating?
dear Tyler I disagree with kids in high school going trick-or-treating because some high schoolers have jobs to get their friends and themselves candy before they get out of high school. My brother still has two more years till he is out of school and he already has a job to by his own candy.

I respect your opinion Karisa, But I believe that teens that are 13, 14, and even 15 could still trick-or-treat.

Rebuttal against Varonica
Rebutal to Veronica
I disagree with you because it all depends on the person. It depends on the child because some kids still like to go out and trick-or-treat, and dress up. And plus its one time of the year where they can dress up in ridiculous costumes and not get made fun of. Also its the one time of the year where they can be immature and not get in trouble for it.
Matthew S. rebuttal against Derrick S.
Sincerely,
Matthew S.

Rebutling Jason's argument
Rebuttal: Agree with Juliette J
I agree with Juliette and here is why.

Halloween debate
